Job 16:1Then Job answered and said, And Job made answer and said,And Job answered and said,Then Job answered, and said:
Job 16:2I have heard many such things: Miserable comforters are ye all. Such things have frequently come to my ears: you are comforters who only give trouble.I have heard many such things: grievous comforters are ye all.I have often heard such things as these: you are all troublesome comforters.
Job 16:3Shall vain words have an end? Or what provoketh thee that thou answerest? May words which are like the wind be stopped? or what is troubling you to make answer to them?Shall words of wind have an end? or what provoketh thee that thou answerest?Shall windy words have no end? or is it any trouble to thee to speak?
Job 16:4I also could speak as ye do; If your soul were in my soul's stead, I could join words together against you, And shake my head at you. It would not be hard for me to say such things if your souls were in my soul's place; joining words together against you, and shaking my head at you:I also could speak as ye: if your soul were in my soul's stead, I could join together words against you, and shake my head at you;I also could speak like you: and would God your soul were for my soul.
Job 16:5[But] I would strengthen you with my mouth, And the solace of my lips would assuage [your grief]. I might give you strength with my mouth, and not keep back the comfort of my lips.[But] I would encourage you with my mouth, and the solace of my lips should assuage [your pain].I would comfort you also with words, and would wag my head over you.
Job 16:6Though I speak, my grief is not assuaged; And though I forbear, what am I eased? If I say what is in my mind, my pain becomes no less: and if I keep quiet, how much of it goes from me?If I speak, my pain is not assuaged; and if I forbear, what am I eased?I would strengthen you with my mouth, and would move my lips, as sparing you.
Job 16:7But now he hath made me weary: Thou hast made desolate all my company. But now he has overcome me with weariness and fear, and I am in the grip of all my trouble. But now he hath made me weary; ... thou hast made desolate all my family; But what shall I do? If I speak, my pain will not rest: and if I hold my peace, it will not depart from me.
Job 16:8And thou hast laid fast hold on me, [which] is a witness [against me]: And my leanness riseth up against me, It testifieth to my face. It has come up as a witness against me, and the wasting of my flesh makes answer to my face.Thou hast shrivelled me up! it is become a witness; and my leanness riseth up against me, it beareth witness to my face. But now my sorrow hath oppressed me, and all my limbs are brought to nothing.
Job 16:9He hath torn me in his wrath, and persecuted me; He hath gnashed upon me with his teeth: Mine adversary sharpeneth his eyes upon me. I am broken by his wrath, and his hate has gone after me; he has made his teeth sharp against me: my haters are looking on me with cruel eyes; His anger teareth and pursueth me; he gnasheth with his teeth against me; [as] mine adversary he sharpeneth his eyes at me.My wrinkles bear witness against me, and a false speaker riseth up against my face, contradicting me.
Job 16:10They have gaped upon me with their mouth; They have smitten me upon the cheek reproachfully: They gather themselves together against me. Their mouths are open wide against me; the blows of his bitter words are falling on my face; all of them come together in a mass against me.They gape upon me with their mouth; they smite my cheeks reproachfully; they range themselves together against me.He hath gathered together his fury against me, and threatening me he hath gnashed with his teeth upon me: my enemy hath beheld me with terrible eyes.
Job 16:11God delivereth me to the ungodly, And casteth me into the hands of the wicked. God gives me over to the power of sinners, sending me violently into the hands of evil-doers.ùGod hath delivered me over to the iniquitous man, and hurled me into the hands of the wicked. They have opened their mouths upon me, and reproaching me they have struck me on the cheek, they are filled with my pains.
Job 16:12I was at ease, and he brake me asunder; Yea, he hath taken me by the neck, and dashed me to pieces: He hath also set me up for his mark. I was in comfort, but I have been broken up by his hands; he has taken me by the neck, shaking me to bits; he has put me up as a mark for his arrows.I was at rest, but he hath shattered me; he hath taken me by the neck and shaken me to pieces, and set me up for his mark.God hath shut me up with the unjust man, and hath delivered me into the hands of the wicked.
Job 16:13His archers compass me round about; He cleaveth my reins asunder, and doth not spare; He poureth out my gall upon the ground. His bowmen come round about me; their arrows go through my body without mercy; my life is drained out on the earth. His arrows encompass me round about, he cleaveth my reins asunder and doth not spare; he poureth out my gall upon the ground.I that was formerly so wealthy, am all on a sudden broken to pieces: he hath taken me by my neck, he hath broken me, and hath set me up to be his mark.
Job 16:14He breaketh me with breach upon breach; He runneth upon me like a giant. I am broken with wound after wound; he comes rushing on me like a man of war.He breaketh me with breach upon breach; he runneth upon me like a mighty man.He hath compassed me round about with his lances, he hath wounded my loins, he hath not spared, and hath poured out my bowels on the earth.
Job 16:15I have sewed sackcloth upon my skin, And have laid my horn in the dust. I have made haircloth the clothing of my skin, and my horn is rolled in the dust.I have sewed sackcloth upon my skin, and rolled my horn in the dust.He hath torn me with wound upon wound, he hath rushed in upon me like a giant.
Job 16:16My face is red with weeping, And on my eyelids is the shadow of death; My face is red with weeping, and my eyes are becoming dark;My face is red with weeping, and on my eyelids is the shadow of death;I have sowed sackcloth upon my skin, and have covered my flesh with ashes.
Job 16:17Although there is no violence in my hands, And my prayer is pure. Though my hands have done no violent acts, and my prayer is clean.Although there is no violence in my hands, and my prayer is pure.My face is swollen with weeping, and my eyelids are dim.
Job 16:18O earth, cover not thou my blood, And let my cry have no [resting] -place. O earth, let not my blood be covered, and let my cry have no resting-place!O earth, cover not my blood, and let there be no place for my cry! These things have I suffered without the iniquity of my hand, when I offered pure prayers to God.
Job 16:19Even now, behold, my witness is in heaven, And he that voucheth for me is on high. Even now my witness is in heaven, and the supporter of my cause is on high.Even now, behold, my Witness is in the heavens, and he that voucheth for me is in the heights.O earth, cover not thou my blood, neither let my cry find a hiding place in thee.
Job 16:20My friends scoff at me: [But] mine eye poureth out tears unto God, My friends make sport of me; to God my eyes are weeping,My friends are my mockers; mine eye poureth out tears unto +God.For behold my witness is in heaven, and he that knoweth my conscience is on high.
Job 16:21That he would maintain the right of a man with God, And of a son of man with his neighbor! So that he may give decision for a man in his cause with God, and between a son of man and his neighbour.Oh that there were arbitration for a man with +God, as a son of man for his friend! My friends are full of words: my eye poureth out tears to God.
Job 16:22For when a few years are come, I shall go the way whence I shall not return. For in a short time I will take the journey from which I will not come back. For years [few] in number shall pass, and I shall go the way [whence] I shall not return. And O that a man might so be judged with God, as the son of man is judged with his companion!
