| Psalms 72:1 | Give the king thy judgments, O God, And thy righteousness unto the king's son. | <Of Solomon.> Give the king your authority, O God, and your righteousness to the king's son. | A psalm for Asaph. How good is God to Israel, to them that are of a right heart! | |
| Psalms 72:2 | He will judge thy people with righteousness, And thy poor with justice. | May he be a judge of your people in righteousness, and make true decisions for the poor. | But my feet were almost moved; my steps had well nigh slipped. | |
| Psalms 72:3 | The mountains shall bring peace to the people, And the hills, in righteousness. | May the mountains give peace to the people, and the hills righteousness. | Because I had a zeal on occasion of the wicked, seeing the prosperity of sinners. | |
| Psalms 72:4 | He will judge the poor of the people, He will save the children of the needy, And will break in pieces the oppressor. | May he be a judge of the poor among the people, may he give salvation to the children of those who are in need; by him let the violent be crushed. | For there is no regard to their death, nor is there strength in their stripes. | |
| Psalms 72:5 | They shall fear thee while the sun endureth, And so long as the moon, throughout all generations. | May his life go on as long as the sun and moon, through all generations. | They are not in the labour of men: neither shall they be scourged like other men. B Therefore pride hath held them fast: they are covered with their iniquity and their wickedness. | |
| Psalms 72:6 | He will come down like rain upon the mown grass, As showers that water the earth. | May he come down like rain on the cut grass; like showers watering the earth. | Their iniquity hath come forth, as it were from fatness: they have passed into the affection of the heart. | |
| Psalms 72:7 | In his days shall the righteous flourish, And abundance of peace, till the moon be no more. | In his days may the upright do well, living in peace as long as there is a moon in heaven. | They have thought and spoken wickedness: they have spoken iniquity on high. | |
| Psalms 72:8 | He shall have dominion also from sea to sea, And from the River unto the ends of the earth. | Let his kingdom be from sea to sea, from the River to the ends of the earth. | They have set their mouth against heaven: and their tongue hath passed through the earth. | |
| Psalms 72:9 | They that dwell in the wilderness shall bow before him; And his enemies shall lick the dust. | Let those who are against him go down before him; and let his haters be low in the dust. | Therefore will my people return here and full days shall be found in them. | |
| Psalms 72:10 | The kings of Tarshish and of the isles shall render tribute: The kings of Sheba and Seba shall offer gifts. | Let the kings of Tarshish and of the islands come back with offerings; let the kings of Sheba and Seba give of their stores. | And they said: How doth God know? and is there knowledge in the most High? | |
| Psalms 72:11 | Yea, all kings shall fall down before him; All nations shall serve him. | Yes, let all kings go down before him; let all nations be his servants. | Behold these are sinners; and yet abounding in the world they have obtained riches. | |
| Psalms 72:12 | For he will deliver the needy when he crieth, And the poor, that hath no helper. | For he will be a saviour to the poor in answer to his cry; and to him who is in need, without a helper. | And I said: Then have I in vain justified my heart, and washed my hands among the innocent. | |
| Psalms 72:13 | He will have pity on the poor and needy, And the souls of the needy he will save. | He will have pity on the poor, and be the saviour of those who are in need. | And I have been scourged all the day; and my chastisement hath been in the mornings. | |
| Psalms 72:14 | He will redeem their soul from oppression and violence; And precious will their blood be in his sight: | He will keep their souls free from evil designs and violent attacks; and their blood will be of value in his eyes. | If I said: I will speak thus; behold I should condemn the generation of thy children. | |
| Psalms 72:15 | And they shall live; and to him shall be given of the gold of Sheba: And men shall pray for him continually; They shall bless him all the day long. | May he have long life, and may gold from Sheba be given to him: may prayers be made for him at all times; may blessings be on him every day. | I studied that I might know this thing, it is a labour in my sight: | |
| Psalms 72:16 | There shall be abundance of grain in the earth upon the top of the mountains; The fruit thereof shall shake like Lebanon: And they of the city shall flourish like grass of the earth. | May there be wide-stretching fields of grain in the land, shaking on the top of the mountains, full of fruit like Lebanon: may its stems be unnumbered like the grass of the earth. | Until I go into the sanctuary of God, and understand concerning their last ends. | |
| Psalms 72:17 | His name shall endure for ever; His name shall be continued as long as the sun: And men shall be blessed in him; All nations shall call him happy. | May his name go on for ever, as long as the sun: may men be blessing themselves by him; may all nations be blessing his name. | But indeed for deceits thou hast put it to them: when they were lifted up thou hast cast them down. | |
| Psalms 72:18 | Blessed be Jehovah God, the God of Israel, Who only doeth wondrous things: | Praise be to the Lord God, the God of Israel, the only doer of wonders. | How are they brought to desolation? they have suddenly ceased to be: they have perished by reason of their iniquity. | |
| Psalms 72:19 | And blessed be his glorious name for ever; And let the whole earth be filled with his glory. Amen, and Amen. | Praise to the glory of his noble name for ever; let all the earth be full of his glory. So be it, So be it. | As the dream of them that awake, O Lord; so in thy city thou shalt bring their image to nothing. | |
| Psalms 72:20 | The prayers of David the son of Jesse are ended. BOOK III Psalm 73 A Psalm of Asaph. | The prayers of David, the son of Jesse, are ended. <A Psalm. Of Asaph.> | For my heart hath been inflamed, and my reins have been changed: | |
