1st-Corinthians 14:1Follow after love; yet desire earnestly spiritual [gifts], but rather that ye may prophesy. Go after love; still desiring to have the things which the Spirit gives, but most of all that you may have the prophet's power.Follow after charity, and desire spiritual gifts, but rather that ye may prophesy.Follow after love, and be emulous of spiritual [manifestations], but rather that ye may prophesy.
1st-Corinthians 14:2For he that speaketh in a tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God; for no man understandeth; but in the spirit he speaketh mysteries. For he who makes use of tongues is not talking to men but to God; because no one has the sense of what he is saying; but in the Spirit he is talking of secret things. For he that speaketh in an unknown language, speaketh not to men, but to God: for no man understandeth him; yet in the spirit he speaketh mysteries. For he that speaks with a tongue does not speak to men but to God: for no one hears; but in spirit he speaks mysteries.
1st-Corinthians 14:3But he that prophesieth speaketh unto men edification, and exhortation, and consolation. But the word of the prophet gives men knowledge and comfort and strength. But he that prophesieth, speaketh to men to edification, and exhortation, and comfort. But he that prophesies speaks to men [in] edification, and encouragement, and consolation.
1st-Corinthians 14:4He that speaketh in a tongue edifieth himself; but he that prophesieth edifieth the church. He who makes use of tongues may do good to himself; but he who gives the prophet's word does good to the church. He that speaketh in an unknown language edifieth himself; but he that prophesieth edifieth the church. He that speaks with a tongue edifies himself; but he that prophesies edifies [the] assembly.
1st-Corinthians 14:5Now I would have you all speak with tongues, but rather that ye should prophesy: and greater is he that prophesieth than he that speaketh with tongues, except he interpret, that the church may receive edifying. Now though it is my desire for you all to have the power of tongues, it would give me more pleasure to be hearing the prophet's word from you; for this is a greater thing than using tongues, if the sense is not given at the same time, for the good of the church.I would that ye all spoke in languages, but rather that ye prophesied: for greater is he that prophesieth than he that speaketh in languages, except he interpret, that the church may receive edifying. Now I desire that ye should all speak with tongues, but rather that ye should prophesy. But greater is he that prophesies than he that speaks with tongues, unless he interpret, that the assembly may receive edification.
1st-Corinthians 14:6But now, brethren, if I come unto you speaking with tongues, what shall I profit you, unless I speak to you either by way of revelation, or of knowledge, or of prophesying, or of teaching? But, now, my brothers, if I come to you using tongues, what profit will it be to you, if I do not give you a revelation, or knowledge, or the word of the prophet, or teaching? Now, brethren, if I come to you speaking in languages, what shall I profit you, except I shall speak to you either by revelation, or by knowledge, or by prophesying, or by doctrine? And now, brethren, if I come to you speaking with tongues, what shall I profit you, unless I shall speak to you either in revelation, or in knowledge, or in prophecy, or in teaching?
1st-Corinthians 14:7Even things without life, giving a voice, whether pipe or harp, if they give not a distinction in the sounds, how shall it be known what is piped or harped? Even things without life, having a voice, such as a music-pipe or other instrument, if they do not give out different sounds, who may be certain what is being played? And even things without life giving sound, whether pipe or harp, except they give a distinction in the sounds, how shall it be known what is piped or harped?Even lifeless things giving a sound, whether pipe or harp, if they give not distinction to the sounds, how shall it be known what is piped or harped?
1st-Corinthians 14:8For if the trumpet give an uncertain voice, who shall prepare himself for war? For if the war-horn gives out an uncertain note, who will get ready for the fight? For if the trumpet shall give an uncertain sound, who will prepare himself for battle? For also, if the trumpet give an uncertain sound, who shall prepare himself for war?
1st-Corinthians 14:9So also ye, unless ye utter by the tongue speech easy to be understood, how shall it be known what is spoken? for ye will be speaking into the air. So if you, in using a strange tongue, say words which have no sense, how will anyone take in what you are saying? for you will be talking to the air.So likewise ye, except ye utter by the tongue words easy to be understood, how shall it be known what is spoken? for ye will speak into the air. Thus also *ye* with the tongue, unless ye give a distinct speech, how shall it be known what is spoken? for ye will be speaking to the air.
1st-Corinthians 14:10There are, it may be, so many kinds of voices in the world, and no [kind] is without signification. There are, it may be, a number of different voices in the world, and no voice is without sense. There are, it may be, so many kinds of voices in the world, and none of them is without signification. There are, it may be, so many kinds of voices in the world, and none of undistinguishable sound.
1st-Corinthians 14:11If then I know not the meaning of the voice, I shall be to him that speaketh a barbarian, and he that speaketh will be a barbarian unto me. But if the sense of the voice is not clear to me, I am like a man from a strange country to him who is talking, and he will be the same to me.Therefore, if I know not the meaning of the voice, I shall be to him that speaketh a barbarian, and he that speaketh will be a barbarian to me.If therefore I do not know the power of the sound, I shall be to him that speaks a barbarian, and he that speaks a barbarian for me.
1st-Corinthians 14:12So also ye, since ye are zealous of spiritual [gifts], seek that ye may abound unto the edifying of the church. So if you are desiring the things which the Spirit gives, let your minds be turned first to the things which are for the good of the church.Even so ye, forasmuch as ye are zealous of spiritual gifts, seek that ye may excel to the edifying of the church. Thus *ye* also, since ye are desirous of spirits, seek that ye may abound for the edification of the assembly.
1st-Corinthians 14:13Wherefore let him that speaketh in a tongue pray that he may interpret. For this reason, let the man who has the power of using tongues make request that he may, at the same time, be able to give the sense.Wherefore, let him that speaketh in an unknown language, pray that he may interpret.Wherefore let him that speaks with a tongue pray that he may interpret.
1st-Corinthians 14:14For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my understanding is unfruitful. For if I make use of tongues in my prayers, my spirit makes the prayer, but not my mind. For if I pray in an unknown language, my spirit prayeth, but my understanding is unfruitful. For if I pray with a tongue, my spirit prays, but my understanding is unfruitful.
1st-Corinthians 14:15What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also: I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also. What then? let my prayer be from the spirit, and equally from the mind; let my song be from the spirit, and equally from mind. What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also: I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also. What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, but I will pray also with the understanding; I will sing with the spirit, but I will sing also with the understanding.
1st-Corinthians 14:16Else if thou bless with the spirit, how shall he that filleth the place of the unlearned say the Amen at thy giving of thanks, seeing he knoweth not what thou sayest? For if you give a blessing with the spirit, how will the man who has no knowledge say, So be it, after your prayer, seeing that he has not taken in what you are saying?Else, when thou shalt bless with the spirit, how shall he that occupieth the room of the unlearned say Amen at thy giving of thanks, seeing he understandeth not what thou sayest?Since otherwise, if thou blessest with [the] spirit, how shall he who fills the place of the simple [Christian] say Amen, at thy giving of thanks, since he does not know what thou sayest?
1st-Corinthians 14:17For thou verily givest thanks well, but the other is not edified. For your giving of the blessing is certainly well done, but of no profit to the man without knowledge. For thou verily givest thanks well, but the other is not edified. For *thou* indeed givest thanks well, but the other is not edified.
1st-Corinthians 14:18I thank God, I speak with tongues more than you all: I give praise to God that I am able to make use of tongues more than you all:I thank my God, I speak in languages more than ye all:I thank God I speak in a tongue more than all of you:
1st-Corinthians 14:19howbeit in the church I had rather speak five words with my understanding, that I might instruct others also, than ten thousand words in a tongue. But in the church it would be better for me to make use of five words of which the sense was clear, so that others might have profit, than ten thousand words in a strange tongue.Yet in the church I had rather speak five words with my understanding, that by my voice I may teach others also, than ten thousand words in an unknown language.but in [the] assembly I desire to speak five words with my understanding, that I may instruct others also, [rather] than ten thousand words in a tongue.
1st-Corinthians 14:20Brethren, be not children in mind: yet in malice be ye babes, but in mind be men. My brothers, do not be children in mind: in evil be as little children, but in mind be of full growth.Brethren, be not children in understanding: yet in malice be ye children, but in understanding be men.Brethren, be not children in [your] minds, but in malice be babes; but in [your] minds be grown [men].
1st-Corinthians 14:21In the law it is written, By men of strange tongues and by the lips of strangers will I speak unto this people; and not even thus will they hear me, saith the Lord. In the law it is said, By men of other tongues and by strange lips will my words come to this people; and not even so will they give ear to me, says the Lord.In the law it is written, With men of other tongues and other lips will I speak to this people; and yet for all that will they not hear me, saith the Lord.It is written in the law, By people of other tongues, and by strange lips, will I speak to this people; and neither thus will they hear me, saith the Lord.
1st-Corinthians 14:22Wherefore tongues are for a sign, not to them that believe, but to the unbelieving: but prophesying [is for a sign], not to the unbelieving, but to them that believe. For this reason tongues are for a sign, not to those who have faith, but to those who have not: but the prophet's word is for those who have faith, and not for the rest who have not.Wherefore languages are for a sign, not to them that believe, but to them that believe not: but prophesying serveth not for them that believe not, but for them who believe. So that tongues are for a sign, not to those who believe, but to unbelievers; but prophecy, not to unbelievers, but to those who believe.
1st-Corinthians 14:23If therefore the whole church be assembled together and all speak with tongues, and there come in men unlearned or unbelieving, will they not say that ye are mad? If, then, the church has come together, and all are using tongues, and there come in men without knowledge or faith, will they not say that you are unbalanced? If therefore the whole church is assembled in one place, and all speak in languages, and there come in those that are unlearned, or unbelievers, will they not say that ye are insane? If therefore the whole assembly come together in one place, and all speak with tongues, and simple [persons] enter in, or unbelievers, will not they say ye are mad?
1st-Corinthians 14:24But if all prophesy, and there come in one unbelieving or unlearned, he is reproved by all, he is judged by all; But if all are teaching as prophets, and a man without faith or knowledge comes in, he is tested by all, he is judged by all;But if all prophesy, and there come in one that believeth not, or one unlearned, he is convinced by all, he is judged by all:But if all prophesy, and some unbeliever or simple [person] come in, he is convicted of all, he is judged of all;
1st-Corinthians 14:25the secrets of his heart are made manifest; and so he will fall down on his face and worship God, declaring that God is among you indeed. The secrets of his heart are made clear; and he will go down on his face and give worship to God, saying that God is truly among you.And thus are the secrets of his heart made manifest; and so falling down on his face, he will worship God, and report that God is in you in truth.the secrets of his heart are manifested; and thus, falling upon [his] face, he will do homage to God, reporting that God is indeed amongst you.
1st-Corinthians 14:26What is it then, brethren? When ye come together, each one hath a psalm, hath a teaching, hath a revelation, hath a tongue, hath an interpretation. Let all things be done unto edifying. What is it then, my brothers? when you come together everyone has a holy song, or a revelation, or a tongue, or is giving the sense of it. Let everything be done for the common good. How is it then, brethren? when ye are assembled, every one of you hath a psalm, hath a doctrine, hath a language, hath a revelation, hath an interpretation. Let all things be done to edification. What is it then, brethren? whenever ye come together, each [of you] has a psalm, has a teaching, has a tongue, has a revelation, has an interpretation. Let all things be done to edification.
1st-Corinthians 14:27If any man speaketh in a tongue, [let it be] by two, or at the most three, and [that] in turn; and let one interpret: If any man makes use of a tongue, let it not be more than two, or at the most three, and in turn; and let someone give the sense:If any man speaketh in an unknown language, let it be by two, or at the most by three, and that by course; and let one interpret.If any one speak with a tongue, [let it be] two, or at the most three, and separately, and let one interpret;
1st-Corinthians 14:28but if there be no interpreter, let him keep silence in the church; and let him speak to himself, and to God. But if there is no one to give the sense, let him keep quiet in the church; and let his words be to himself and to God.But if there is no interpreter, let him keep silence in the church; and let him speak to himself, and to God.but if there be no interpreter, let him be silent in [the] assembly, and let him speak to himself and to God.
1st-Corinthians 14:29And let the prophets speak [by] two or three, and let the others discern. And let the prophets give their words, but not more than two or three, and let the others be judges of what they say.Let the prophets speak two or three, and let the others judge. And let two or three prophets speak, and let the others judge.
1st-Corinthians 14:30But if a revelation be made to another sitting by, let the first keep silence. But if a revelation is given to another who is seated near, let the first be quiet. If any thing is revealed to another that sitteth by, let the first hold his peace. But if there be a revelation to another sitting [there], let the first be silent.
1st-Corinthians 14:31For ye all can prophesy one by one, that all may learn, and all may be exhorted; For you may all be prophets in turn so that all may get knowledge and comfort; For ye may all prophesy one by one, that all may learn, and all may be comforted. For ye can all prophesy one by one, that all may learn and all be encouraged.
1st-Corinthians 14:32and the spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets; And the spirits of the prophets are controlled by the prophets; And the spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets. And spirits of prophets are subject to prophets.
1st-Corinthians 14:33for God is not [a God] of confusion, but of peace. As in all the churches of the saints, For God is not a God whose ways are without order, but a God of peace; as in all the churches of the saints. For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints. For God is not [a God] of disorder but of peace, as in all the assemblies of the saints.
1st-Corinthians 14:34let the women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but let them be in subjection, as also saith the law. Let women keep quiet in the churches: for it is not right for them to be talking; but let them be under control, as it says in the law.Let your women keep silence in the churches; for it is not permitted to them to speak: but they are commanded to be under obedience, as also saith the law.Let [your] women be silent in the assemblies, for it is not permitted to them to speak; but to be in subjection, as the law also says.
1st-Corinthians 14:35And if they would learn anything, let them ask their own husbands at home: for it is shameful for a woman to speak in the church. And if they have a desire for knowledge about anything, let them put questions to their husbands privately: for talking in the church puts shame on a woman. And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home; for it is a shame for women to speak in the church. But if they wish to learn anything, let them ask their own husbands at home; for it is a shame for a woman to speak in assembly.
1st-Corinthians 14:36What? was it from you that the word of God went forth? or came it unto you alone? What? was it from you that the word of God went out? or did it only come in to you? What? came the word of God out from you? or came it to you only?Did the word of God go out from you, or did it come to you only?
1st-Corinthians 14:37If any man thinketh himself to be a prophet, or spiritual, let him take knowledge of the things which I write unto you, that they are the commandment of the Lord. If any man seems to himself to be a prophet or to have the Spirit, let him take note of the things which I am writing to you, as being the word of the Lord.If any man thinketh himself to be a prophet, or spiritual, let him acknowledge that the things that I write to you are the commandments of the Lord.If any one thinks himself to be a prophet or spiritual, let him recognise the things that I write to you, that it is [the] Lord's commandment.
1st-Corinthians 14:38But if any man is ignorant, let him be ignorant. But if any man is without knowledge, let him be so.But if any man is ignorant, let him be ignorant. But if any be ignorant, let him be ignorant.
1st-Corinthians 14:39Wherefore, my brethren, desire earnestly to prophesy, and forbid not to speak with tongues. So then, my brothers, let it be your chief desire to be prophets; but let no one be stopped from using tongues.Wherefore, brethren, covet to prophesy, and forbid not to speak in languages. So that, brethren, desire to prophesy, and do not forbid the speaking with tongues.
1st-Corinthians 14:40But let all things be done decently and in order. Let all things be done in the right and ordered way.Let all things be done decently, and in order. But let all things be done comelily and with order.
