2nd-Corinthians 2:1But I determined this for myself, that I would not come again to you with sorrow. But it was my decision for myself, not to come again to you with sorrow. But, so far as I am concerned, I have resolved not to have a painful visit the next time I come to see you.But I determined this with myself, not to come to you again in sorrow.
2nd-Corinthians 2:2For if I make you sorry, who then is he that maketh me glad but he that is made sorry by me? For if I give you sorrow, who then will make me glad, but he who is made sad by me?For if I of all men give you pain, who then is there to gladden my heart, but the very persons to whom I give pain? For if I make you sorrowful, who is he then that can make me glad, but the same who is made sorrowful by me?
2nd-Corinthians 2:3And I wrote this very thing, lest, when I came, I should have sorrow from them of whom I ought to rejoice; having confidence in you all, that my joy is [the joy] of you all. And I said this very thing in my letter, for fear that when I came I might have sorrow from those from whom it was right for me to have joy; being certain of this, that my joy is the joy of you all.And I write this to you in order that when I come I may not receive pain from those who ought to give me joy, confident as I am as to all of you that my joy is the joy of you all.And I wrote this same to you; that I may not, when I come, have sorrow upon sorrow, from them of whom I ought to rejoice: having confidence in you all, that my joy is the joy of you all.
2nd-Corinthians 2:4For out of much affliction and anguish of heart I wrote unto you with many tears; not that ye should be made sorry, but that ye might know the love that I have more abundantly unto you. For out of much trouble and pain of heart and much weeping I sent my letter to you; not to give you sorrow, but so that you might see how great is the love which I have to you.For with many tears I write to you, and in deep suffering and depression of spirit, not in order to grieve you, but in the hope of showing you how brimful my heart is with love for you.For out of much affliction and anguish of heart, I wrote to you with many tears: not that you should be made sorrowful: but that you might know the charity I have more abundantly towards you.
2nd-Corinthians 2:5But if any hath caused sorrow, he hath caused sorrow, not to me, but in part (that I press not too heavily) to you all. But if anyone has been a cause of sorrow, he has been so, not to me only, but in some measure to all of you (I say this that I may not be over-hard on you). Now if any one has caused sorrow, it has been caused not so much to me, as in some degree for I have no wish to exaggerate to all of you.And if any one have caused grief, he hath not grieved me; but in part, that I may not burden you all.
2nd-Corinthians 2:6Sufficient to such a one is this punishment which was [inflicted] by the many; Let it be enough for such a man to have undergone the punishment which the church put on him;In the case of such a person the punishment which was inflicted by the majority of you is enough. To him who is such a one, this rebuke is sufficient, which is given by many:
2nd-Corinthians 2:7so that contrariwise ye should rather forgive him and comfort him, lest by any means such a one should be swallowed up with his overmuch sorrow. So that now, on the other hand, it is right for him to have forgiveness and comfort from you, for fear that his sorrow may be over-great.So that you may now take the opposite course, and forgive him rather and comfort him, for fear he should perhaps be driven to despair by his excess of grief. So that on the contrary, you should rather forgive him and comfort him, lest perhaps such a one be swallowed up with overmuch sorrow.
2nd-Corinthians 2:8Wherefore I beseech you to confirm [your] love toward him. For which cause my desire is that you will make your love to him clear by your acts.I beg you therefore fully to reinstate him in your love.Wherefore, I beseech you, that you would confirm your charity towards him.
2nd-Corinthians 2:9For to this end also did I write, that I might know the proof of you, whether ye are obedient in all things. And for the same reason I sent you a letter so that I might be certain of your desire to do my orders in all things. For in writing to you I have also this object in view to discover by experience whether you are prepared to be obedient in every respect. For to this end also did I write, that I may know the experiment of you, whether you be obedient in all things.
2nd-Corinthians 2:10But to whom ye forgive anything, I [forgive] also: for what I also have forgiven, if I have forgiven anything, for your sakes [have I forgiven it] in the presence of Christ; But if you give forgiveness to anyone, I do the same: for if I have given forgiveness for anything, I have done it because of you, in the person of Christ; When you forgive a man an offence I also forgive it; for in fact what I have forgiven, if I have forgiven anything, has always been for your sakes in the presence of Christ,And to whom you have pardoned any thing, I also. For, what I have pardoned, if I have pardoned any thing, for your sakes have I done it in the person of Christ.
2nd-Corinthians 2:11that no advantage may be gained over us by Satan: for we are not ignorant of his devices. So that Satan may not get the better of us: for we are not without knowledge of his designs.for fear Satan should gain an advantage over us. For we are not ignorant of his devices. That we be not overreached by Satan. For we are not ignorant of his devices.
2nd-Corinthians 2:12Now when I came to Troas for the gospel of Christ, and when a door was opened unto me in the Lord, Now when I came to Troas for the good news of Christ, and there was an open door for me in the Lord,Now when I came into the Troad to spread there the Good News about the Christ, even though in the Lord's providence a door stood open before me,And when I was come to Troas for the gospel of Christ, and a door was opened unto me in the Lord,
2nd-Corinthians 2:13I had no relief for my spirit, because I found not Titus my brother: but taking my leave of them, I went forth into Macedonia. I had no rest in my spirit because Titus my brother was not there: so I went away from them, and came into Macedonia.yet, obtaining no relief for my spirit because I did not find our brother Titus, I bade them farewell and went on into Macedonia.I had no rest in my spirit, because I found not Titus my brother; but bidding them farewell, I went into Macedonia.
2nd-Corinthians 2:14But thanks be unto God, who always leadeth us in triumph in Christ, and maketh manifest through us the savor of his knowledge in every place. But praise be to God who makes us strong to overcome in Christ, and makes clear through us in every place the value of the knowledge of him.But to God be the thanks who in Christ ever heads our triumphal procession, and by our hands waves in every place that sweet incense, the knowledge of Him.Now thanks be to God, who always maketh us to triumph in Christ Jesus, and manifesteth the odour of his knowledge by us in every place.
2nd-Corinthians 2:15For we are a sweet savor of Christ unto God, in them that are saved, and in them that perish; For we are a sweet perfume of Christ to God in those who are getting salvation and in those who are going to destruction; For we are a fragrance of Christ grateful to God in those whom He is saving and in those who are perishing; For we are the good odour of Christ unto God, in them that are saved, and in them that perish.
2nd-Corinthians 2:16to the one a savor from death unto death; to the other a savor from life unto life. And who is sufficient for these things? To the one it is a perfume of death to death; to the other a perfume of life to life. And who is enough for such things?to the last-named an odor of death predictive of death, and to the others an odor of life predictive of life. And for such service as this who is competent? To the one indeed the odour of death unto death: but to the others the odour of life unto life. And for these things who is so sufficient?
2nd-Corinthians 2:17For we are not as the many, corrupting the word of God: but as of sincerity, but as of God, in the sight of God, speak we in Christ. For we are not like the great number who make use of the word of God for profit: but our words are true, as from God, being said as before God in Christ. We are; for, unlike most teachers, we are not fraudulent hucksters of God's Message; but with transparent motives, as commissioned by God, in God's presence and in communion with Christ, so we speak. For we are not as many, adulterating the word of God; but with sincerity, but as from God, before God, in Christ we speak.
