| Psalms 38:1 | O Jehovah, rebuke me not in thy wrath; Neither chasten me in thy hot displeasure. | <A Psalm. Of David. To keep in memory.> O Lord, be not bitter with me in your wrath; let not your hand be on me in the heat of your passion. | | Unto the end, for Idithun himself, a canticle of David. |
| Psalms 38:2 | For thine arrows stick fast in me, And thy hand presseth me sore. | For your arrows have gone into my flesh, and I am crushed under the weight of your hand. | | I said: I will take heed to my ways : that I sin not with my tongue. I have set guard to my mouth, when the sinner stood against me. |
| Psalms 38:3 | There is no soundness in my flesh because of thine indignation; Neither is there any health in my bones because of my sin. | My flesh is wasted because of your wrath; and there is no peace in my bones because of my sin. | | I was dumb, and was humbled, and kept silence from good things : and my sorrow was renewed. |
| Psalms 38:4 | For mine iniquities are gone over my head: As a heavy burden they are too heavy for me. | For my crimes have gone over my head; they are like a great weight which is more than my strength. | | My heart grew hot within me : and in my meditation a fire shall flame out. |
| Psalms 38:5 | My wounds are loathsome and corrupt, Because of my foolishness. | My wounds are poisoned and evil-smelling, because of my foolish behaviour. | | I spoke with my tongue : O Lord, make me know my end. And what is the number of my days : that I may know what is wanting to me. |
| Psalms 38:6 | I am pained and bowed down greatly; I go mourning all the day long. | I am troubled, I am made low; I go weeping all the day. | | Behold thou hast made my days measurable : and my substance is as nothing before thee. And indeed all things are vanity : every man living. |
| Psalms 38:7 | For my loins are filled with burning; And there is no soundness in my flesh. | For my body is full of burning; all my flesh is unhealthy. | | Surely man passeth as an image : yea, and he is disquieted in vain. He storeth up : and he knoweth not for whom he shall gather these things. |
| Psalms 38:8 | I am faint and sore bruised: I have groaned by reason of the disquietness of my heart. | I am feeble and crushed down; I gave a cry like a lion because of the grief in my heart. | | And now what is my hope? is it not the Lord? and my substance is with thee. |
| Psalms 38:9 | Lord, all my desire is before thee; And my groaning is not hid from thee. | Lord, all my desire is before you; my sorrow is not kept secret from you. | | Deliver thou me from all my iniquities : thou hast made me a reproach to the fool. |
| Psalms 38:10 | My heart throbbeth, my strength faileth me: As for the light of mine eyes, it also is gone from me. | My heart goes out in pain, my strength is wasting away; as for the light of my eyes, it is gone from me. | | I was dumb, and I opened not my mouth, because thou hast done it. |
| Psalms 38:11 | My lovers and my friends stand aloof from my plague; And my kinsmen stand afar off. | My lovers and my friends keep away from my disease; my relations keep far away. | | Remove thy scourges from me. The strength of thy hand hath made me faint in rebukes: |
| Psalms 38:12 | They also that seek after my life lay snares [for me]; And they that seek my hurt speak mischievous things, And meditate deceits all the day long. | Those who have a desire to take my life put nets for me; those who are designing my destruction say evil things against me, all the day their minds are full of deceit. | | thou hast corrected man for iniquity. And thou hast made his soul to waste away like a spider : surely in vain is any man disquieted. |
| Psalms 38:13 | But I, as a deaf man, hear not; And I am as a dumb man that openeth not his mouth. | But I kept my ears shut like a man without hearing; like a man without a voice, never opening his mouth. | | Hear my prayer, O Lord, and my supplication : give ear to my tears. Be not silent : for I am a stranger with thee, and a sojourner as all my fathers were. |
| Psalms 38:14 | Yea, I am as a man that heareth not, And in whose mouth are no reproofs. | So I was like a man whose ears are shut, and in whose mouth there are no sharp words. | | O forgive me, that I may be refreshed, before I go hence, and be no more. |

| Psalms 38:18 | For I will declare mine iniquity; I will be sorry for my sin. | I will make clear my wrongdoing, with sorrow in my heart for my sin. | | |
| Psalms 38:19 | But mine enemies are lively, [and] are strong; And they that hate me wrongfully are multiplied. | But they are strong who have hate for me without cause: those who are against me falsely are increased in numbers. | | |
| Psalms 38:20 | They also that render evil for good Are adversaries unto me, because I follow the thing that is good. | They give me back evil for good; they are my haters because I go after the thing which is right. | | |
