| Job 18:1 | Then answered Bildad the Shuhite, and said, | Then Bildad the Shuhite made answer and said, | And Bildad the Shuhite answereth and saith: | Then Baldad the Suhite answered, and said: |
| Job 18:2 | How long will ye hunt for words? Consider, and afterwards we will speak. | How long will it be before you have done talking? Get wisdom, and then we will say what is in our minds. | When do ye set an end to words? Consider ye, and afterwards do we speak. | How long will you throw out words? understand first, and so let us speak. |
| Job 18:3 | Wherefore are we counted as beasts, [And] are become unclean in your sight? | Why do we seem as beasts in your eyes, and as completely without knowledge? | Wherefore have we been reckoned as cattle? We have been defiled in your eyes! | Why are we reputed as beasts, and counted vile before you? |
| Job 18:4 | Thou that tearest thyself in thine anger, Shall the earth be forsaken for thee? Or shall the rock be removed out of its place? | But come back, now, come: you who are wounding yourself in your passion, will the earth be given up because of you, or a rock be moved out of its place? | (He is tearing himself in his anger.) For thy sake is earth forsaken? And removed is a rock from its place? | Thou that destroyest thy soul in thy fury, shall the earth be forsaken for thee, and shall rocks be removed out of their place? |
| Job 18:5 | Yea, the light of the wicked shall be put out, And the spark of his fire shall not shine. | For the light of the sinner is put out, and the flame of his fire is not shining. | Also, the light of the wicked is extinguished. And there doth not shine a spark of his fire. | Shall not the light of the wicked be extinguished, and the flame of his fire not shine? |
| Job 18:6 | The light shall be dark in his tent, And his lamp above him shall be put out. | The light is dark in his tent, and the light shining over him is put out. | The light hath been dark in his tent, And his lamp over him is extinguished. | The light shall be dark in his tabernacle, and the lamp that is over him, shall be put out. |
| Job 18:7 | The steps of his strength shall be straitened, And his own counsel shall cast him down. | The steps of his strength become short, and by his design destruction overtakes him. | Straitened are the steps of his strength, And cast him down doth his own counsel. | The step of his strength shall be straitened, and his own counsel shall cast him down headlong. |
| Job 18:8 | For he is cast into a net by his own feet, And he walketh upon the toils. | His feet take him into the net, and he goes walking into the cords. | For he is sent into a net by his own feet, And on a snare he doth walk habitually. | For he hath thrust his feet into a net, and walketh in its meshes. |
| Job 18:9 | A gin shall take [him] by the heel, [And] a snare shall lay hold on him. | His foot is taken in the net; he comes into its grip. | Seize on the heel doth a gin, Prevail over him do the designing. | The sole of his foot shall be held in a snare, and thirst shall burn against him. |
| Job 18:10 | A noose is hid for him in the ground, And a trap for him in the way. | The twisted cord is put secretly in the earth to take him, and the cord is placed in his way. | Hidden in the earth is his cord, And his trap on the path. | A gin is hidden for him in the earth, and his trap upon the path. |
| Job 18:11 | Terrors shall make him afraid on every side, And shall chase him at his heels. | He is overcome by fears on every side, they go after him at every step. | Round about terrified him have terrors, And they have scattered him at his feet. | Fears shall terrify him on every side, and shall entangle his feet. |
| Job 18:12 | His strength shall be hunger-bitten, And calamity shall be ready at his side. | His strength is made feeble for need of food, and destruction is waiting for his falling footstep. | Hungry is his sorrow, And calamity is ready at his side. | Let his strength be wasted with famine, and let hunger invade his ribs. |
| Job 18:13 | The members of his body shall be devoured, [Yea], the first-born of death shall devour his members. | His skin is wasted by disease, and his body is food for the worst of diseases. | It consumeth the parts of his skin, Consume his parts doth death`s first-born. | Let it devour the beauty of his skin, let the firstborn death consume his arms. |
| Job 18:14 | He shall be rooted out of his tent where he trusteth; And he shall be brought to the king of terrors. | He is pulled out of his tent where he was safe, and he is taken away to the king of fears. | Drawn from his tent is his confidence, And it causeth him to step to the king of terrors. | Let his confidence be rooted out of his tabernacle, and let destruction tread upon him like a king. |
| Job 18:15 | There shall dwell in his tent that which is none of his: Brimstone shall be scattered upon his habitation. | In his tent will be seen that which is not his, burning stone is dropped on his house. | It dwelleth in his tent out of his provender, Scattered over his habitation is sulphur. | Let the companions of him that is not, dwell in his tabernacle, let brimstone be sprinkled in his tent. |
| Job 18:16 | His roots shall be dried up beneath, And above shall his branch be cut off. | Under the earth his roots are dry, and over it his branch is cut off. | From beneath his roots are dried up, And from above cut off is his crop. | Let his roots be dried up beneath, and his harvest destroyed above. |
| Job 18:17 | His remembrance shall perish from the earth, And he shall have no name in the street. | His memory is gone from the earth, and in the open country there is no knowledge of his name. | His memorial hath perished from the land, And he hath no name on the street. | Let the memory of him perish from the earth and let not his name be renowned in the streets. |
| Job 18:18 | He shall be driven from light into darkness, And chased out of the world. | He is sent away from the light into the dark; he is forced out of the world. | They thrust him from light unto darkness, And from the habitable earth cast him out. | He shall drive him out of light into darkness, and shall remove him out of the world. |
| Job 18:19 | He shall have neither son nor son's son among his people, Nor any remaining where he sojourned. | He has no offspring or family among his people, and in his living-place there is no one of his name. | He hath no continuator, Nor successor among his people, And none is remaining in his dwellings. | His seed shall not subsist, nor his offspring among his people, nor any remnants in his country. |
| Job 18:20 | They that come after shall be astonished at his day, As they that went before were affrighted. | At his fate those of the west are shocked, and those of the east are overcome with fear. | At this day westerns have been astonished And easterns have taken fright. | They that come after him shall be astonished at his day, and horror shall fall upon them that went before. |
| Job 18:21 | Surely such are the dwellings of the unrighteous, And this is the place of him that knoweth not God. | Truly, these are the houses of the sinner, and this is the place of him who has no knowledge of God. | Only these [are] tabernacles of the perverse, And this the place God hath not known. | These men are the tabernacles of the wicked, and this the place of him that knoweth not God. |
