Psalms 40:1I waited patiently for Jehovah; And he inclined unto me, and heard my cry. <To the chief music-maker. Of David. A Psalm.> When I was waiting quietly for the Lord, his heart was turned to me, and he gave ear to my cry.To the Overseer. A Psalm of David. I have diligently expected Jehovah, And He inclineth to me, and heareth my cry,I waited patiently for the LORD; and he inclined unto me, and heard my cry.
Psalms 40:2He brought me up also out of a horrible pit, out of the miry clay; And he set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings. He took me up out of a deep waste place, out of the soft and sticky earth; he put my feet on a rock, and made my steps certain. And He doth cause me to come up From a pit of desolation from mire of mud, And He raiseth up on a rock my feet, He is establishing my steps. He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings.
Psalms 40:3And he hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God: Many shall see it, and fear, And shall trust in Jehovah. And he put a new song in my mouth, even praise to our God; numbers have seen it with fear, and put their faith in the Lord. And He putteth in my mouth a new song, `Praise to our God.` Many do see and fear, and trust in Jehovah. And he hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God: many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the LORD.
Psalms 40:4Blessed is the man that maketh Jehovah his trust, And respecteth not the proud, nor such as turn aside to lies. Happy is the man who has faith in the Lord, and does not give honour to the men of pride or to those who are turned away to deceit.O the happiness of the man Who hath made Jehovah his trust, And hath not turned unto the proud, And those turning aside to lies.Blessed is that man that maketh the LORD his trust, and respecteth not the proud, nor such as turn aside to lies.
Psalms 40:5Many, O Jehovah my God, are the wonderful works which thou hast done, And thy thoughts which are to us-ward; They cannot be set in order unto thee; If I would declare and speak of them, They are more than can be numbered. O Lord my God, great are the wonders which you have done in your thought for us; it is not possible to put them out in order before you; when I would give an account of them, their number is greater than I may say.Much hast Thou done, Jehovah my God; Thy wonders and Thy thoughts toward us, There is none to arrange unto Thee, I declare and speak: They have been more than to be numbered. Many, O LORD my God, are thy wonderful works which thou hast done, and thy thoughts which are to us-ward: they cannot be reckoned up in order unto thee: if I would declare and speak of them, they are more than can be numbered.
Psalms 40:6Sacrifice and offering thou hast no delight in; Mine ears hast thou opened: Burnt-offering and sin-offering hast thou not required. You had no desire for offerings of beasts or fruits of the earth; ears you made for me: for burned offerings and sin offerings you made no request.Sacrifice and present Thou hast not desired, Ears Thou hast prepared for me, Burnt and sin-offering Thou hast not asked.Sacrifice and offering thou didst not desire; mine ears hast thou opened: burnt offering and sin offering hast thou not required.
Psalms 40:7Then said I, Lo, I am come; In the roll of the book it is written of me: Then I said, See, I come; it is recorded of me in the roll of the book,Then said I, `Lo, I have come,` In the roll of the book it is written of me,Then said I, Lo, I come: in the volume of the book it is written of me,
Psalms 40:8I delight to do thy will, O my God; Yea, thy law is within my heart. My delight is to do your pleasure, O my God; truly, your law is in my heart. To do Thy pleasure, my God, I have delighted, And Thy law [is] within my heart.I delight to do thy will, O my God: yea, thy law is within my heart.
Psalms 40:9I have proclaimed glad tidings of righteousness in the great assembly; Lo, I will not refrain my lips, O Jehovah, thou knowest. I have given news of righteousness in the great meeting; O Lord, you have knowledge that I have not kept back my words.I have proclaimed tidings of righteousness In the great assembly, lo, my lips I restrain not, O Jehovah, Thou hast known.I have preached righteousness in the great congregation: lo, I have not refrained my lips, O LORD, thou knowest.
Psalms 40:10I have not hid thy righteousness within my heart; I have declared thy faithfulness and thy salvation; I have not concealed thy lovingkindness and thy truth from the great assembly. Your righteousness has not been folded away in my heart; I have made clear your true word and your salvation; I have not kept secret your mercy or your faith from the great meeting.Thy righteousness I have not concealed In the midst of my heart, Thy faithfulness and Thy salvation I have told, I have not hidden Thy kindness and Thy truth, To the great assembly.I have not hid thy righteousness within my heart; I have declared thy faithfulness and thy salvation: I have not concealed thy lovingkindness and thy truth from the great congregation.
Psalms 40:11Withhold not thou thy tender mercies from me, O Jehovah; Let thy lovingkindness and thy truth continually preserve me. Take not away your gentle mercies from me, O Lord; let your mercy and your faith keep me safe for ever.Thou, O Jehovah, restrainest not Thy mercies from me, Thy kindness and Thy truth do continually keep me.Withhold not thou thy tender mercies from me, O LORD: let thy lovingkindness and thy truth continually preserve me.
Psalms 40:12For innumerable evils have compassed me about; Mine iniquities have overtaken me, so that I am not able to look up; They are more than the hairs of my head; And my heart hath failed me. For unnumbered evils are round about me; my sins have overtaken me, so that I am bent down with their weight; they are more than the hairs of my head, my strength is gone because of them. For compassed me have evils innumerable, Overtaken me have mine iniquities, And I have not been able to see; They have been more than the hairs of my head, And my heart hath forsaken me.For innumerable evils have compassed me about: mine iniquities have taken hold upon me, so that I am not able to look up; they are more than the hairs of mine head: therefore my heart faileth me.
Psalms 40:13Be pleased, O Jehovah, to deliver me: Make haste to help me, O Jehovah. Be pleased, O Lord, to take me out of danger; O Lord, come quickly and give me help.Be pleased, O Jehovah, to deliver me, O Jehovah, for my help make haste.Be pleased, O LORD, to deliver me: O LORD, make haste to help me.
Psalms 40:14Let them be put to shame and confounded together That seek after my soul to destroy it: Let them be turned backward and brought to dishonor That delight in my hurt. Let those who go after my soul for its destruction have shame and trouble together; let them be turned back and made foolish who take pleasure in my trouble. They are ashamed and confounded together, Who are seeking my soul to destroy it, They are turned backward, And are ashamed, who are desiring my evil.Let them be ashamed and confounded together that seek after my soul to destroy it; let them be driven backward and put to shame that wish me evil.
Psalms 40:15Let them be desolate by reason of their shame That say unto me, Aha, aha. Let those who say to me, Aha, aha! be surprised because of their shame. They are desolate because of their shame, Who are saying to me, `Aha, aha.`Let them be desolate for a reward of their shame that say unto me, Aha, aha.
Psalms 40:16Let all those that seek thee rejoice and be glad in thee: Let such as love thy salvation say continually, Jehovah be magnified. Let all those who are looking for you be glad and have joy in you; let the lovers of your salvation ever say, May the Lord be great. All seeking Thee rejoice and are glad in Thee, Those loving Thy salvation say continually, `Jehovah is magnified.`Let all those that seek thee rejoice and be glad in thee: let such as love thy salvation say continually, The LORD be magnified.
Psalms 40:17But I am poor and needy; [Yet] the Lord thinketh upon me: Thou art my help and my deliverer; Make no tarrying, O my God. Psalm 41 For the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David. Though I am poor and in need, the Lord has me in mind; you are my help and my saviour; let there be no waiting, O my God.And I [am] poor and needy, The Lord doth devise for me. My help and my deliverer [art] Thou, O my God, tarry Thou not.But I am poor and needy; yet the Lord thinketh upon me: thou art my help and my deliverer; make no tarrying, O my God.
