| Psalms 52:1 | Why boastest thou thyself in mischief, O mighty man? The lovingkindness of God [endureth] continually. | Unto the end, for Maeleth, understandings to David. The fool said in his hear t: There is no God. | <To the chief music-maker. Maschil. Of David. When Doeg the Edomite came to Saul saying, David has come to the house of Ahimelech.> Why do you take pride in wrongdoing, lifting yourself up against the upright man all the day? | Why do you boast of mischief, mighty man? God's lovingkindness endures continually. |
| Psalms 52:2 | Thy tongue deviseth very wickedness, Like a sharp razor, working deceitfully. | They are corrupted, and become abominable in iniquities: there is none that doth good. | Purposing destruction, using deceit; your tongue is like a sharp blade. | Your tongue plots destruction, Like a sharp razor, working deceitfully. |
| Psalms 52:3 | Thou lovest evil more than good, And lying rather than to speak righteousness. Selah | God looked down from heaven on the children of men: to see if there were any that did understand, or did seek God. | You have more love for evil than for good, for deceit than for works of righteousness. (Selah.) | You love evil more than good, Lying rather than speaking the truth. Selah. |
| Psalms 52:4 | Thou lovest all devouring words, thou deceitful tongue. | All have gone aside, they are become unprofitable together, there is none that doth good, no not one. | Destruction is in all your words, O false tongue. | You love all devouring words, You deceitful tongue. |
| Psalms 52:5 | God will likewise destroy thee for ever; He will take thee up, and pluck thee out of thy tent, And root thee out of the land of the living. Selah | Shall not all the workers of iniquity know, who eat up my people as they eat bread? | But God will put an end to you for ever; driving you out from your tent, uprooting you from the land of the living. (Selah.) | God will likewise destroy you forever. He will take you up, and pluck you out of your tent, And root you out of the land of the living. Selah. |
| Psalms 52:6 | The righteous also shall see [it], and fear, And shall laugh at him, [saying], | They have not called upon God: there have they trembled for fear, where there was no fear. For God hath scattered the bones of them that please men: they have been confounded, because God hath despised them. | The upright will see it with fear, and will say, laughing at you: | The righteous also will see it, and fear, And laugh at him, saying, |
| Psalms 52:7 | Lo, this is the man that made not God his strength, But trusted in the abundance of his riches, And strengthened himself in his wickedness. | Who will give out of Sion the salvation of Israel? when God shall bring back the captivity of his people, Jacob shall rejoice, and Israel shall be glad. | See, this is the man who did not make God his strength, but had faith in his goods and his property, and made himself strong in his wealth. | "Behold, this is the man who didn't make God his strength, But trusted in the abundance of his riches, And strengthened himself in his wickedness." |
| Psalms 52:8 | But as for me, I am like a green olive-tree in the house of God: I trust in the lovingkindness of God for ever and ever. | | But I am like a branching olive-tree in the house of God; I have put my faith in his mercy for ever and ever. | But as for me, I am like a green olive tree in God's house. I trust in God's lovingkindness forever and ever. |
| Psalms 52:9 | I will give thee thanks for ever, because thou hast done it; And I will hope in thy name, for it is good, in the presence of thy saints. Psalm 53 For the Chief Musician; set to Mahalath. Maschil of David. | | I will give you praise without end for what you have done; I will give honour to your name before your saints, for it is good. | I will give you thanks forever, because you have done it. I will hope in your name, for it is good, In the presence of your saints. Psalm 53 For the Chief Musician. To the tune of "Mahalath." A contemplation by David. |
