Psalms 87:1His foundation is in the holy mountains. A canticle of a psalm for the sons of Core: unto the end, for Maheleth, to answer understanding of Eman the Ezrahite.His foundation is in the holy mountains.<Of the sons of Korah. A Psalm. A Song.> This house is resting on the holy mountain.
Psalms 87:2Jehovah loveth the gates of Zion More than all the dwellings of Jacob. O Lord, the God of my salvation: I have cried in the day, and in the night before thee.Yahweh loves the gates of Zion More than all the dwellings of Jacob.The Lord has more love for the doors of Zion than for all the tents of Jacob.
Psalms 87:3Glorious things are spoken of thee, O city of God. Selah Let my prayer come in before thee: incline thy ear to my petition.Glorious things are spoken about you, city of God. Selah.Noble things are said of you, O town of God. (Selah.)
Psalms 87:4I will make mention of Rahab and Babylon as among them that know me: Behold, Philistia, and Tyre, with Ethiopia: This one was born there. For my soul is filled with evils: and my life hath drawn nigh to hell.I will record Rahab and Babylon among those who acknowledge me. Behold, Philistia, Tyre, and also Ethiopia: "This one was born there."Rahab and Babylon will be named among those who have knowledge of me; see, Philistia and Tyre, with Ethiopia; this man had his birth there.
Psalms 87:5Yea, of Zion it shall be said, This one and that one was born in her; And the Most High himself will establish her. I am counted among them that go down to the pit: I am become as a man without help,Yes, of Zion it will be said, "This one and that one was born in her;" The Most High himself will establish her.And of Zion it will be said, This or that man had his birth there; and the Most High will make her strong.
Psalms 87:6Jehovah will count, when he writeth up the peoples, This one was born there. Selah free among the dead. Like the slain sleeping in the sepulchres, whom thou rememberest no more: and they are cast off from thy hand.Yahweh will count, when he writes up the peoples, "This one was born there." Selah.The Lord will keep in mind, when he is writing the records of the people, that this man had his birth there. (Selah.)
