Psalms 40:1I waited patiently for Jehovah; And he inclined unto me, and heard my cry. Unto the end, a psalm for David himself. To the Overseer. A Psalm of David. I have diligently expected Jehovah, And He inclineth to me, and heareth my cry,<To the chief music-maker. Of David. A Psalm.> When I was waiting quietly for the Lord, his heart was turned to me, and he gave ear to my cry.
Psalms 40:2He brought me up also out of a horrible pit, out of the miry clay; And he set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings. Blessed is he that understandeth concerning the needy and the poor : the Lord will deliver him in the evil day.And He doth cause me to come up From a pit of desolation from mire of mud, And He raiseth up on a rock my feet, He is establishing my steps. He took me up out of a deep waste place, out of the soft and sticky earth; he put my feet on a rock, and made my steps certain.
Psalms 40:3And he hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God: Many shall see it, and fear, And shall trust in Jehovah. The Lord preserve him and give him life, and make him blessed upon the earth : and deliver him not up to the will of his enemies. And He putteth in my mouth a new song, `Praise to our God.` Many do see and fear, and trust in Jehovah. And he put a new song in my mouth, even praise to our God; numbers have seen it with fear, and put their faith in the Lord.
Psalms 40:4Blessed is the man that maketh Jehovah his trust, And respecteth not the proud, nor such as turn aside to lies. The Lord help him on his bed of sorrow : thou hast turned all his couch in his sickness.O the happiness of the man Who hath made Jehovah his trust, And hath not turned unto the proud, And those turning aside to lies.Happy is the man who has faith in the Lord, and does not give honour to the men of pride or to those who are turned away to deceit.
Psalms 40:5Many, O Jehovah my God, are the wonderful works which thou hast done, And thy thoughts which are to us-ward; They cannot be set in order unto thee; If I would declare and speak of them, They are more than can be numbered. I said: O Lord, be thou merciful to me : heal my soul, for I have sinned against thee.Much hast Thou done, Jehovah my God; Thy wonders and Thy thoughts toward us, There is none to arrange unto Thee, I declare and speak: They have been more than to be numbered.O Lord my God, great are the wonders which you have done in your thought for us; it is not possible to put them out in order before you; when I would give an account of them, their number is greater than I may say.
Psalms 40:6Sacrifice and offering thou hast no delight in; Mine ears hast thou opened: Burnt-offering and sin-offering hast thou not required. My enemies have spoken evils against me: when shall he die and his name perish?Sacrifice and present Thou hast not desired, Ears Thou hast prepared for me, Burnt and sin-offering Thou hast not asked. You had no desire for offerings of beasts or fruits of the earth; ears you made for me: for burned offerings and sin offerings you made no request.
Psalms 40:7Then said I, Lo, I am come; In the roll of the book it is written of me: And if he came in to see me, he spoke vain things : his heart gathered together iniquity to itself. He went out and spoke to the same purpose. Then said I, `Lo, I have come,` In the roll of the book it is written of me,Then I said, See, I come; it is recorded of me in the roll of the book,
Psalms 40:8I delight to do thy will, O my God; Yea, thy law is within my heart. All my enemies whispered together against me : they devised evils to me.To do Thy pleasure, my God, I have delighted, And Thy law [is] within my heart. My delight is to do your pleasure, O my God; truly, your law is in my heart.
Psalms 40:9I have proclaimed glad tidings of righteousness in the great assembly; Lo, I will not refrain my lips, O Jehovah, thou knowest. They determined against me an unjust word : shall he that sleepeth rise again no more?I have proclaimed tidings of righteousness In the great assembly, lo, my lips I restrain not, O Jehovah, Thou hast known.I have given news of righteousness in the great meeting; O Lord, you have knowledge that I have not kept back my words.
Psalms 40:10I have not hid thy righteousness within my heart; I have declared thy faithfulness and thy salvation; I have not concealed thy lovingkindness and thy truth from the great assembly. For even the man of peace, in whom I trusted, who ate my bread, hath greatly supplanted me.Thy righteousness I have not concealed In the midst of my heart, Thy faithfulness and Thy salvation I have told, I have not hidden Thy kindness and Thy truth, To the great assembly.Your righteousness has not been folded away in my heart; I have made clear your true word and your salvation; I have not kept secret your mercy or your faith from the great meeting.
Psalms 40:11Withhold not thou thy tender mercies from me, O Jehovah; Let thy lovingkindness and thy truth continually preserve me. But thou, O Lord, have mercy on me, and raise me up again : and I will requite them.Thou, O Jehovah, restrainest not Thy mercies from me, Thy kindness and Thy truth do continually keep me.Take not away your gentle mercies from me, O Lord; let your mercy and your faith keep me safe for ever.
Psalms 40:12For innumerable evils have compassed me about; Mine iniquities have overtaken me, so that I am not able to look up; They are more than the hairs of my head; And my heart hath failed me. By this I know, that thou hast had a good will for me : because my enemy shall not rejoice over me.For compassed me have evils innumerable, Overtaken me have mine iniquities, And I have not been able to see; They have been more than the hairs of my head, And my heart hath forsaken me.For unnumbered evils are round about me; my sins have overtaken me, so that I am bent down with their weight; they are more than the hairs of my head, my strength is gone because of them.
Psalms 40:13Be pleased, O Jehovah, to deliver me: Make haste to help me, O Jehovah. But thou hast upheld me by reason of my innocence : and hast established me in thy sight for ever.Be pleased, O Jehovah, to deliver me, O Jehovah, for my help make haste.Be pleased, O Lord, to take me out of danger; O Lord, come quickly and give me help.
Psalms 40:14Let them be put to shame and confounded together That seek after my soul to destroy it: Let them be turned backward and brought to dishonor That delight in my hurt. Blessed by the Lord the God of Israel from eternity to eternity. So be it. So be it.They are ashamed and confounded together, Who are seeking my soul to destroy it, They are turned backward, And are ashamed, who are desiring my evil.Let those who go after my soul for its destruction have shame and trouble together; let them be turned back and made foolish who take pleasure in my trouble.
Psalms 40:15Let them be desolate by reason of their shame That say unto me, Aha, aha. They are desolate because of their shame, Who are saying to me, `Aha, aha.`Let those who say to me, Aha, aha! be surprised because of their shame.
Psalms 40:16Let all those that seek thee rejoice and be glad in thee: Let such as love thy salvation say continually, Jehovah be magnified. All seeking Thee rejoice and are glad in Thee, Those loving Thy salvation say continually, `Jehovah is magnified.`Let all those who are looking for you be glad and have joy in you; let the lovers of your salvation ever say, May the Lord be great.
Psalms 40:17But I am poor and needy; [Yet] the Lord thinketh upon me: Thou art my help and my deliverer; Make no tarrying, O my God. Psalm 41 For the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David. And I [am] poor and needy, The Lord doth devise for me. My help and my deliverer [art] Thou, O my God, tarry Thou not.Though I am poor and in need, the Lord has me in mind; you are my help and my saviour; let there be no waiting, O my God.
