Job 30:1But now they that are younger than I have me in derision, Whose fathers I disdained to set with the dogs of my flock. But now they that are younger than I have me in derision, whose fathers I would have disdained to have set with the dogs of my flock. But now those who are younger than I make sport of me; those whose fathers I would not have put with the dogs of my flocks. But now the younger in time scorn me, whose fathers I would not have set with the dogs of my flock:
Job 30:2Yea, the strength of their hands, whereto should it profit me? Men in whom ripe age is perished. Yea, whereto might the strength of their hands profit me, in whom old age was perished?Of what use is the strength of their hands to me? all force is gone from them. The strength of whose hands was to me as nothing, and they were thought unworthy of life itself.
Job 30:3They are gaunt with want and famine; They gnaw the dry ground, in the gloom of wasteness and desolation. For want and famine they were solitary; fleeing into the wilderness in former time desolate and waste. They are wasted for need of food, biting the dry earth; their only hope of life is in the waste land.Barren with want and hunger, who gnawed in the wilderness, disfigured with calamity and misery.
Job 30:4They pluck salt-wort by the bushes; And the roots of the broom are their food. Who cut up mallows by the bushes, and juniper roots for their meat. They are pulling off the salt leaves from the brushwood, and making a meal of roots. And they ate grass, and barks of trees, and the root of junipers was their food.
Job 30:5They are driven forth from the midst [of men]; They cry after them as after a thief; They were driven forth from among men, (they cried after them as after a thief;)They are sent out from among their townsmen, men are crying after them as thievesWho snatched up these things out of the valleys, and when they had found any of them, they ran to them with a cry.
Job 30:6So that they dwell in frightful valleys, In holes of the earth and of the rocks. To dwell in the clifts of the valleys, in caves of the earth, and in the rocks. They have to get a resting-place in the hollows of the valleys, in holes of the earth and rocks. They dwelt in the desert places of torrents, and in caves of earth, or upon the gravel.
Job 30:7Among the bushes they bray; Under the nettles they are gathered together. Among the bushes they brayed; under the nettles they were gathered together. They make noises like asses among the brushwood; they get together under the thorns. They pleased themselves among these kind of things, and counted it delightful to be under the briers.
Job 30:8[They are] children of fools, yea, children of base men; They were scourged out of the land. They were children of fools, yea, children of base men: they were viler than the earth. They are sons of shame, and of men without a name, who have been forced out of the land. The children of foolish and base men, and not appearing at all upon the earth.
Job 30:9And now I am become their song, Yea, I am a byword unto them. And now am I their song, yea, I am their byword. And now I have become their song, and I am a word of shame to them. Now I am turned into their song, and am become their byword.
Job 30:10They abhor me, they stand aloof from me, And spare not to spit in my face. They abhor me, they flee far from me, and spare not to spit in my face.I am disgusting to them; they keep away from me, and put marks of shame on me.They abhor me, and flee far from me, and are not afraid to spit in my face.
Job 30:11For he hath loosed his cord, and afflicted me; And they have cast off the bridle before me. Because he hath loosed my cord, and afflicted me, they have also let loose the bridle before me.For he has made loose the cord of my bow, and put me to shame; he has sent down my flag to the earth before me.For he hath opened his quiver, and hath afflicted me, and hath put a bridle into my mouth.
Job 30:12Upon my right hand rise the rabble; They thrust aside my feet, And they cast up against me their ways of destruction. Upon my right hand rise the youth; they push away my feet, and they raise up against me the ways of their destruction. The lines of his men of war put themselves in order, and make high their ways of destruction against me:At the right hand of my rising, my calamities forthwith arose: they have overthrown my feet, and have overwhelmed me with their paths as with waves.
Job 30:13They mar my path, They set forward my calamity, [Even] men that have no helper. They mar my path, they set forward my calamity, they have no helper. They have made waste my roads, with a view to my destruction; his bowmen come round about me;They have destroyed my ways, they have lain in wait against me, and they have prevailed, and there was none to help.
Job 30:14As through a wide breach they come: In the midst of the ruin they roll themselves [upon me]. They came upon me as a wide breaking in of waters: in the desolation they rolled themselves upon me.As through a wide broken place in the wall they come on, I am overturned by the shock of their attack. They have rushed in upon me, as when a wall is broken, and a gate opened, and have rolled themselves down to my miseries.
Job 30:15Terrors are turned upon me; They chase mine honor as the wind; And my welfare is passed away as a cloud. Terrors are turned upon me: they pursue my soul as the wind: and my welfare passeth away as a cloud.Fears have come on me; my hope is gone like the wind, and my well-being like a cloud.I am brought to nothing: as a wind thou hast taken away my desire: and my prosperity hath passed away like a cloud.
Job 30:16And now my soul is poured out within me; Days of affliction have taken hold upon me. And now my soul is poured out upon me; the days of affliction have taken hold upon me.But now my soul is turned to water in me, days of trouble overtake me:And now my soul fadeth within myself, and the days of affliction possess me.
Job 30:17In the night season my bones are pierced in me, And the [pains] that gnaw me take no rest. My bones are pierced in me in the night season: and my sinews take no rest. The flesh is gone from my bones, and they give me no rest; there is no end to my pains. In the night my bone is pierced with sorrows: and they that feed upon me, do not sleep.
Job 30:18By [God's] great force is my garment disfigured; It bindeth me about as the collar of my coat. By the great force of my disease is my garment changed: it bindeth me about as the collar of my coat. With great force he takes a grip of my clothing, pulling me by the neck of my coat. With the multitude of them my garment is consumed, and they have girded me about, as with the collar of my coat.
Job 30:19He hath cast me into the mire, And I am become like dust and ashes. He hath cast me into the mire, and I am become like dust and ashes.Truly God has made me low, even to the earth, and I have become like dust.I am compared to dirt, and am likened to embers and ashes.
Job 30:20I cry unto thee, and thou dost not answer me: I stand up, and thou gazest at me. I cry unto thee, and thou dost not hear me: I stand up, and thou regardest me not. You give no answer to my cry, and take no note of my prayer.I cry to thee, and thou hearest me not: I stand up, and thou dost not regard me.
Job 30:21Thou art turned to be cruel to me; With the might of thy hand thou persecutest me. Thou art become cruel to me: with thy strong hand thou opposest thyself against me.You have become cruel to me; the strength of your hand is hard on me.Thou art changed to be cruel toward me, and in the hardness of thy hand thou art against me.
Job 30:22Thou liftest me up to the wind, thou causest me to ride [upon it]; And thou dissolvest me in the storm. Thou liftest me up to the wind; thou causest me to ride upon it, and dissolvest my substance. Lifting me up, you make me go on the wings of the wind; I am broken up by the storm.Thou hast lifted me up, and set me as it were upon the wind, and thou hast mightily dashed me.
Job 30:23For I know that thou wilt bring me to death, And to the house appointed for all living. For I know that thou wilt bring me to death, and to the house appointed for all living. For I am certain that you will send me back to death, and to the meeting-place ordered for all living.I know that thou wilt deliver me to death, where a house is appointed for every one that liveth.
Job 30:24Howbeit doth not one stretch out the hand in his fall? Or in his calamity therefore cry for help? Howbeit he will not stretch out his hand to the grave, though they cry in his destruction.Has not my hand been stretched out in help to the poor? have I not been a saviour to him in his trouble? But yet thou stretchest not forth thy hand to their consumption: and if they shall fall down thou wilt save.
Job 30:25Did not I weep for him that was in trouble? Was not my soul grieved for the needy? Did not I weep for him that was in trouble? was not my soul grieved for the poor?Have I not been weeping for the crushed? and was not my soul sad for him who was in need?I wept heretofore for him that was afflicted, and my soul had compassion on the poor.
Job 30:26When I looked for good, then evil came; And when I waited for light, there came darkness. When I looked for good, then evil came unto me: and when I waited for light, there came darkness. For I was looking for good, and evil came; I was waiting for light, and it became dark.I expected good things, and evils are come upon me: I waited for light, and darkness broke out.
Job 30:27My heart is troubled, and resteth not; Days of affliction are come upon me. My bowels boiled, and rested not: the days of affliction prevented me.My feelings are strongly moved, and give me no rest; days of trouble have overtaken me.My inner parts have boiled without any rest, the days of affliction have prevented me.
Job 30:28I go mourning without the sun: I stand up in the assembly, and cry for help. I went mourning without the sun: I stood up, and I cried in the congregation.I go about in dark clothing, uncomforted; I get up in the public place, crying out for help.I went mourning without indignation; I rose up, and cried in the crowd.
Job 30:29I am a brother to jackals, And a companion to ostriches. I am a brother to dragons, and a companion to owls.I have become a brother to the jackals, and go about in the company of ostriches.I was the brother of dragons, and companion of ostriches.
Job 30:30My skin is black, [and falleth] from me, And my bones are burned with heat. My skin is black upon me, and my bones are burned with heat.My skin is black and dropping off me; and my bones are burning with the heat of my disease. My skin is become black upon me, and my bones are dried up with heat.
Job 30:31Therefore is my harp [turned] to mourning, And my pipe into the voice of them that weep. My harp also is turned to mourning, and my organ into the voice of them that weep. And my music has been turned to sorrow, and the sound of my pipe into the noise of weeping. My harp is turned to mourning, and my organ into the voice of those that weep.
