| Psalms 44:1 | We have heard with our ears, O God, Our fathers have told us, What work thou didst in their days, In the days of old. | We have heard with our ears, O God, our fathers have told us, what work thou didst in their days, in the times of old. | <To the chief music-maker. Of the sons of Korah Maschil.> It has come to our ears, O God, our fathers have given us the story, of the works which you did in their days, in the old times, | Unto the end, for them that shall be changed, for the sons of Core, for understanding. A canticle for the Beloved. |
| Psalms 44:2 | Thou didst drive out the nations with thy hand; But them thou didst plant: Thou didst afflict the peoples; But them thou didst spread abroad. | How thou didst drive out the heathen with thy hand, and plantedst them; how thou didst afflict the people, and cast them out. | Uprooting the nations with your hand, and planting our fathers in their place; cutting down the nations, but increasing the growth of your people. | My heart hath uttered a good word I speak my works to the king; My tongue is the pen of a scrivener that writeth swiftly. |
| Psalms 44:3 | For they gat not the land in possession by their own sword, Neither did their own arm save them; But thy right hand, and thine arm, and the light of thy countenance, Because thou wast favorable unto them. | For they got not the land in possession by their own sword, neither did their own arm save them: but thy right hand, and thine arm, and the light of thy countenance, because thou hadst a favour unto them. | For they did not make the land theirs by their swords, and it was not their arms which kept them safe; but your right hand, and your arm, and the light of your face, because you had pleasure in them. | Thou art beautiful above the sons of men: grace is poured abroad in thy lips; therefore hath God blessed thee for ever |
| Psalms 44:4 | Thou art my King, O God: Command deliverance for Jacob. | Thou art my King, O God: command deliverances for Jacob. | You are my King and my God; ordering salvation for Jacob. | Gird thy sword upon thy thigh, O thou most mighty. |
| Psalms 44:5 | Through thee will we push down our adversaries: Through thy name will we tread them under that rise up against us. | Through thee will we push down our enemies: through thy name will we tread them under that rise up against us. | Through you will we overcome our haters; by your name will they be crushed under our feet who are violent against us. | With thy comeliness and thy beauty set out, proceed prosperously, and reign. Because of truth and meekness and justice: and thy right hand shall conduct thee wonderfully. |
| Psalms 44:6 | For I will not trust in my bow, Neither shall my sword save me. | For I will not trust in my bow, neither shall my sword save me. | I will not put faith in my bow, my sword will not be my salvation. | Thy arrows are sharp: under thee shall people fall, into the hearts of the king's enemies. |
| Psalms 44:7 | But thou hast saved us from our adversaries, And hast put them to shame that hate us. | But thou hast saved us from our enemies, and hast put them to shame that hated us. | But it is you who have been our saviour from those who were against us, and have put to shame those who had hate for us. | Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: the sceptre of thy kingdom is a sceptre of uprightness. |
| Psalms 44:8 | In God have we made our boast all the day long, And we will give thanks unto thy name for ever. Selah | In God we boast all the day long, and praise thy name for ever. Selah. | Our pride is in God at all times, to his name we give praise for ever. (Selah.) | Thou hast loved justice, and hated iniquity: therefore God, thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows. |
| Psalms 44:9 | But now thou hast cast [us] off, and brought us to dishonor, And goest not forth with our hosts. | But thou hast cast off, and put us to shame; and goest not forth with our armies. | But now you have sent us away from you, and put us to shame; you do not go out with our armies. | Myrrh and stacte and cassia perfume thy garments, from the ivory houses: out of which |
| Psalms 44:10 | Thou makest us to turn back from the adversary; And they that hate us take spoil for themselves. | Thou makest us to turn back from the enemy: and they which hate us spoil for themselves. | Because of this we are turned back by the attacker: those who have hate for us take our goods for themselves. | the daughters of kings have delighted thee in thy glory. The queen stood on thy right hand, in gilded clothing; surrounded with variety. |
| Psalms 44:11 | Thou hast made us like sheep [appointed] for food, And hast scattered us among the nations. | Thou hast given us like sheep appointed for meat; and hast scattered us among the heathen. | You have made us like sheep which are taken for meat; we are put to flight among the nations. | Hearken, O daughter, and see, and incline thy ear: and forget thy people and thy father's house. |
| Psalms 44:12 | Thou sellest thy people for nought, And hast not increased [thy wealth] by their price. | Thou sellest thy people for nought, and dost not increase thy wealth by their price. | You let your people go for nothing; your wealth is not increased by their price. | And the king shall greatly desire thy beauty; for he is the Lord thy God, and him they shall adore. |
| Psalms 44:13 | Thou makest us a reproach to our neighbors, A scoffing and a derision to them that are round about us. | Thou makest us a reproach to our neighbours, a scorn and a derision to them that are round about us. | You have made us to be looked down on by our neighbours, we are laughed at and shamed by those who are round about us. | And the daughters of Tyre with gifts, yea, all the rich among the people, shall entreat thy countenance. |
| Psalms 44:14 | Thou makest us a byword among the nations, A shaking of the head among the peoples. | Thou makest us a byword among the heathen, a shaking of the head among the people. | Our name is a word of shame among the nations, a sign for the shaking of heads among the peoples. | All the glory of the king's daughter is within in golden borders, |
| Psalms 44:15 | All the day long is my dishonor before me, And the shame of my face hath covered me, | My confusion is continually before me, and the shame of my face hath covered me, | My downfall is ever before me, and I am covered with the shame of my face; | clothed round about with varieties. After her shall virgins be brought to the king: her neighbours shall be brought to thee. |
| Psalms 44:16 | For the voice of him that reproacheth and blasphemeth, By reason of the enemy and the avenger. | For the voice of him that reproacheth and blasphemeth; by reason of the enemy and avenger. | Because of the voice of him who says sharp and bitter words; because of the hater and him who is the instrument of punishment. | They shall be brought with gladness and rejoicing: they shall be brought into the temple of the king. |
| Psalms 44:17 | All this is come upon us; Yet have we not forgotten thee, Neither have we dealt falsely in thy covenant. | All this is come upon us; yet have we not forgotten thee, neither have we dealt falsely in thy covenant. | All this has come on us, but still we have kept you in our memory; and we have not been false to your word. | Instead of thy fathers, sons are born to thee: thou shalt make them princes over all the earth. |
| Psalms 44:18 | Our heart is not turned back, Neither have our steps declined from thy way, | Our heart is not turned back, neither have our steps declined from thy way; | Our hearts have not gone back, and our steps have not been turned out of your way; | They shall remember thy name throughout all generations. Therefore shall people praise thee for ever; yea, for ever and ever. |
| Psalms 44:19 | That thou hast sore broken us in the place of jackals, And covered us with the shadow of death. | Though thou hast sore broken us in the place of dragons, and covered us with the shadow of death. | Though you have let us be crushed in the place of jackals, though we are covered with darkest shade. | |
| Psalms 44:20 | If we have forgotten the name of our God, Or spread forth our hands to a strange god; | If we have forgotten the name of our God, or stretched out our hands to a strange god; | If the name of our God has gone out of our minds, or if our hands have been stretched out to a strange god, | |
| Psalms 44:21 | Will not God search this out? For he knoweth the secrets of the heart. | Shall not God search this out? for he knoweth the secrets of the heart. | Will not God make search for it? for he sees the secrets of the heart. | |
| Psalms 44:22 | Yea, for thy sake are we killed all the day long; We are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. | Yea, for thy sake are we killed all the day long; we are counted as sheep for the slaughter. | Truly, because of you we are put to death every day; we are numbered like sheep for destruction. | |
| Psalms 44:23 | Awake, why sleepest thou, O Lord? Arise, cast [us] not off for ever. | Awake, why sleepest thou, O Lord? arise, cast us not off for ever. | Why are you sleeping, O Lord? awake! and come to our help, do not give us up for ever. | |
| Psalms 44:24 | Wherefore hidest thou thy face, And forgettest our affliction and our oppression? | Wherefore hidest thou thy face, and forgettest our affliction and our oppression? | Why is your face covered, and why do you give no thought to our trouble and our cruel fate? | |
| Psalms 44:25 | For our soul is bowed down to the dust: Our body cleaveth unto the earth. | For our soul is bowed down to the dust: our belly cleaveth unto the earth. | For our souls are crushed down to the dust: our bodies are stretched out on the earth. | |
