| Psalms 78:1 | Give ear, O my people, to my law: Incline your ears to the words of my mouth. | | {An instruction. Of Asaph.} Give ear, O my people, to my law; incline your ears to the words of my mouth. | A psalm for Asaph. O God, the heathens are come into thy inheritance, they have defiled thy holy temple: they have made Jerusalem as a place to keep fruit. |
| Psalms 78:2 | I will open my mouth in a parable; I will utter dark sayings of old, | | I will open my mouth in a parable; I will utter riddles from of old, | They have given the dead bodies of thy servants to be meat for the fowls of the air: the flesh of thy saints for the beasts of the earth. |
| Psalms 78:3 | Which we have heard and known, And our fathers have told us. | | Which we have heard and known, and our fathers have told us: | They have poured out their blood as water, round about Jerusalem and there was none to bury them. |
| Psalms 78:4 | We will not hide them from their children, Telling to the generation to come the praises of Jehovah, And his strength, and his wondrous works that he hath done. | | We will not hide [them] from their sons, shewing forth to the generation to come the praises of Jehovah, and his strength, and his marvellous works which he hath done. | We are become a reproach to our neighbours: a scorn and derision to them that are round about us. |

| Psalms 78:7 | That they might set their hope in God, And not forget the works of God, But keep his commandments, | | And that they might set their hope in God, and not forget the works of ùGod, but observe his commandments; | Because they have devoured Jacob; and have laid waste his place. |
| Psalms 78:8 | And might not be as their fathers, A stubborn and rebellious generation, A generation that set not their heart aright, And whose spirit was not stedfast with God. | | And might not be as their fathers, a stubborn and rebellious generation, a generation that prepared not their heart, and whose spirit was not stedfast with ùGod. | Remember not our former iniquities: let thy mercies speedily prevent us, for we are become exceeding poor. |
