Proverbs 13:1A wise son [heareth] his father's instruction; But a scoffer heareth not rebuke. A wise son listens to his father's instruction, But a scoffer doesn't listen to rebuke.A wise son heareth the doctrine of his father: but he that is a scorner, beareth not when he is reproved.
Proverbs 13:2A man shall eat good by the fruit of his mouth; But the soul of the treacherous [shall eat] violence. By the fruit of his lips, a man enjoys good things; But the unfaithful crave violence.Of the fruit of his own mouth shall a man be filled with good things: but the soul of transgressors is wicked.
Proverbs 13:3He that guardeth his mouth keepeth his life; [But] he that openeth wide his lips shall have destruction. He who guards his mouth guards his soul. One who opens wide his lips comes to ruin.He that keepeth his mouth, keepeth his soul: but he that hath no guard on his speech shall meet with evils.
Proverbs 13:4The soul of the sluggard desireth, and hath nothing; But the soul of the diligent shall be made fat. The soul of the sluggard desires, and has nothing, But the desire of the diligent shall be fully satisfied.The sluggard willeth and willeth not: but the soul of them that work, shall be made fat.
Proverbs 13:5A righteous man hateth lying; But a wicked man is loathsome, and cometh to shame. A righteous man hates lies, But a wicked man brings shame and disgrace.The just shall hate a lying word: but the wicked confoundeth, and shall be confounded.
Proverbs 13:6Righteousness guardeth him that is upright in the way; But wickedness overthroweth the sinner. Righteousness guards the way of integrity, But wickedness overthrows the sinner.Justice keepeth the way of the innocent: but wickedness overthroweth the sinner.
Proverbs 13:7There is that maketh himself rich, yet hath nothing: There is that maketh himself poor, yet hath great wealth. There are some who pretend to be rich, yet have nothing. There are some who pretend to be poor, yet have great wealth.One is as it were rich, when he hath nothing: and another is as it were poor, when he hath great riches.
Proverbs 13:8The ransom of a man's life is his riches; But the poor heareth no threatening. The ransom of a man's life is his riches, But the poor hears no threats.The ransom of a man's life are his riches: but he that is poor beareth not reprehension.
Proverbs 13:9The light of the righteous rejoiceth; But the lamp of the wicked shall be put out. The light of the righteous shines brightly, But the lamp of the wicked is snuffed out.The light of the just giveth joy: but the lamp of the wicked shall be put out.
Proverbs 13:10By pride cometh only contention; But with the well-advised is wisdom. By pride comes only quarrels, But with ones who take advice is wisdom.Among the proud there are always contentions: but they that do all things with counsel, are ruled by wisdom.
Proverbs 13:11Wealth gotten by vanity shall be diminished; But he that gathereth by labor shall have increase. Wealth gained dishonestly dwindles away, But he who gathers by hand makes it grow.Substance got in haste shall be diminished: but that which by little and little is gathered with the hand shall increase.
Proverbs 13:12Hope deferred maketh the heart sick; But when the desire cometh, it is a tree of life. Hope deferred makes the heart sick, But when longing is fulfilled, it is a tree of life.Hope that is deferred afflicteth the soul: desire when it cometh is a tree of life.
Proverbs 13:13Whoso despiseth the word bringeth destruction on himself; But he that feareth the commandment shall be rewarded. Whoever despises instruction will pay for it, But he who respects a command will be rewarded.Whosoever speaketh ill of any thing, bindeth himself for the time to come: but he that feareth the commandment, shall dwell in peace. Deceitful souls go astray in sins: the just are merciful, and shew mercy.
Proverbs 13:14The law of the wise is a fountain of life, That one may depart from the snares of death. The teaching of the wise is a spring of life, To turn from the snares of death.The law of the wise is a fountain of life, that he may decline from the ruin of death.
Proverbs 13:15Good understanding giveth favor; But the way of the transgressor is hard. Good understanding wins favor; But the way of the unfaithful is hard.Good instruction shall give grace: in the way of scorners is a deep pit.
Proverbs 13:16Every prudent man worketh with knowledge; But a fool flaunteth [his] folly. Every prudent man acts from knowledge, But a fool exposes folly.The prudent mall doth all things with counsel: but he that is a fool, layeth open his folly.
Proverbs 13:17A wicked messenger falleth into evil; But a faithful ambassador is health. A wicked messenger falls into trouble, But a trustworthy envoy gains healing.The messenger of the wicked shall fall into mischief: but a faithful ambassador is health.
Proverbs 13:18Poverty and shame [shall be to] him that refuseth correction; But he that regardeth reproof shall be honored. Poverty and shame come to him who refuses discipline, But he who heeds correction shall be honored.Poverty and shame to him that refuseth instruction: but he that yieldeth to reproof, shall be glorified.
Proverbs 13:19The desire accomplished is sweet to the soul; But it is an abomination to fools to depart from evil. Longing fulfilled is sweet to the soul, But fools detest turning from evil.The desire that is accomplished, delighteth the soul: fools hate them that flee from evil things.
Proverbs 13:20Walk with wise men, and thou shalt be wise; But the companion of fools shall smart for it. One who walks with wise men grows wise, But a companion of fools suffers harm.He that walketh with the wise, shall be wise: a friend of fools shall become like to them.
Proverbs 13:21Evil pursueth sinners; But the righteous shall be recompensed with good. Misfortune pursues sinners, But prosperity rewards the righteous.21Evil pursueth sinners: and to the just good shall be repaid.
Proverbs 13:22A good man leaveth an inheritance to his children's children; And the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the righteous. A good man leaves an inheritance to his children's children, But the wealth of the sinner is stored for the righteous.The good man leaveth heirs, sons, and grandsons: and the substance of the sinner is kept for the just.
Proverbs 13:23Much food [is in] the tillage of the poor; But there is that is destroyed by reason of injustice. An abundance of food is in poor people's fields, But injustice sweeps it away.Much food is in the tillage of fathers: but for others it is gathered with out judgment.
Proverbs 13:24He that spareth his rod hateth his son; But he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes. One who spares the rod hates his son, But one who loves him is careful to discipline him.He that spareth the rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him correcteth him betimes.
Proverbs 13:25The righteous eateth to the satisfying of his soul; But the belly of the wicked shall want. The righteous one eats to the satisfying of his soul, But the belly of the wicked goes hungry.The just eateth and filleth his soul: but the belly of the wicked is never to be filled.
