1st-Corinthians 9:1Am I not free? Am I not an apostle? Have I not seen Jesus our Lord? Are not ye my work in the Lord? Am I not free? Am I not an Apostle? Can it be denied that I have seen Jesus, our Lord? Are not you yourselves my work in the Lord?Am not I an apostle? am not I free? Jesus Christ our Lord have I not seen? my work are not ye in the Lord?Am not I free? Am not I an apostle? Have not I seen Christ Jesus our Lord? Are not you my work in the Lord?
1st-Corinthians 9:2If to others I am not an apostle, yet at least I am to you; for the seal of mine apostleship are ye in the Lord. If to other men I am not an Apostle, yet at any rate I am one to you; for your very existence as a Christian Church is the seal of my Apostleship.if to others I am not an apostle yet doubtless to you I am; for the seal of my apostleship are ye in the Lord. And if unto others I be not an apostle, but yet to you I am. For you are the seal of my apostleship in the Lord.
1st-Corinthians 9:3My defence to them that examine me is this. That is how I vindicate myself to those who criticize me.My defence to those who examine me in this;My defence with them that do examine me is this.
1st-Corinthians 9:4Have we no right to eat and to drink? Have we not a right to claim food and drink?have we not authority to eat and to drink?Have not we power to eat and to drink?
1st-Corinthians 9:5Have we no right to lead about a wife that is a believer, even as the rest of the apostles, and the brethren of the Lord, and Cephas? Have we not a right to take with us on our journeys a Christian sister as our wife, as the rest of the Apostles do and the Lord's brothers and Peter?have we not authority a sister a wife to lead about, as also the other apostles, and the brethren of the Lord, and Cephas?Have we not power to carry about a woman, a sister, as well as the rest of the apostles, and the brethren of the Lord, and Cephas?
1st-Corinthians 9:6Or I only and Barnabas, have we not a right to forbear working? Or again, is it only Barnabas and myself who are not at liberty to give up working with our hands?or only I and Barnabas, have we not authority not to work?Or I only and Barnabas, have not we power to do this?
1st-Corinthians 9:7What soldier ever serveth at his own charges? who planteth a vineyard, and eateth not the fruit thereof? Or who feedeth a flock, and eateth not of the milk of the flock? What soldier ever serves at his own cost? Who plants a vineyard and yet does not eat any of the grapes? Or who tends a herd of cattle and yet does not taste their milk?who doth serve as a soldier at his own charges at any time? who doth plant a vineyard, and of its fruit doth not eat? or who doth feed a flock, and of the milk of the flock doth not eat?Who serveth as a soldier at any time, at his own charges? Who planteth a vineyard, and eateth not of the fruit thereof? Who feedeth the flock, and eateth not of the milk of the flock?
1st-Corinthians 9:8Do I speak these things after the manner of men? or saith not the law also the same? Am I making use of merely worldly illustrations? Does not the Law speak in the same tone?According to man do I speak these things? or doth not also the law say these things?Speak I these things according to man? Or doth not the law also say these things?
1st-Corinthians 9:9For it is written in the law of Moses, Thou shalt not muzzle the ox when he treadeth out the corn. Is it for the oxen that God careth, For in the Law of Moses it is written, "Thou shalt not muzzle an ox while it is treading out the grain."for in the law of Moses it hath been written, `thou shalt not muzzle an ox treading out corn;` for the oxen doth God care? For it is written in the law of Moses: Thou shalt not muzzle the mouth of the ox that treadeth out the corn. Doth God take care for oxen?
1st-Corinthians 9:10or saith he it assuredly for our sake? Yea, for our sake it was written: because he that ploweth ought to plow in hope, and he that thresheth, [to thresh] in hope of partaking. Is God simply thinking about the oxen? Or is it really in our interest that He speaks? Of course, it was written in our interest, because it is His will that when a plough-man ploughs, and a thresher threshes, it should be in the hope of sharing that which comes as the result.or because of us by all means doth He say [it]? yes, because of us it was written, because in hope ought the plower to plow, and he who is treading [ought] of his hope to partake in hope.Or doth he say this indeed for our sakes? For these things are written for our sakes: that he that plougheth, should plough in hope; and he that thrasheth, in hope to receive fruit.
1st-Corinthians 9:11If we sowed unto you spiritual things, is it a great matter if we shall reap your carnal things? If it is we who sowed the spiritual grain in you, is it a great thing that we should reap a temporal harvest from you?If we to you the spiritual things did sow great [is it] if we your fleshly things do reap?If we have sown unto you spiritual things, is it a great matter if we reap your carnal things?
1st-Corinthians 9:12If others partake of [this] right over you, do not we yet more? Nevertheless we did not use this right; but we bear all things, that we may cause no hindrance to the gospel of Christ. If other teachers possess that right over you, do not we possess it much more? Yet we have not availed ourselves of the right, but we patiently endure all things rather than hinder in the least degree the progress of the Good News of the Christ.if others do partake of the authority over you not we more? but we did not use this authority, but all things we bear, that we may give no hindrance to the good news of the Christ. If others be partakers of this power over you, why not we rather? Nevertheless, we have not used this power: but we bear all things, lest we should give any hindrance to the gospel of Christ.
1st-Corinthians 9:13Know ye not that they that minister about sacred things eat [of] the things of the temple, [and] they that wait upon the altar have their portion with the altar? Do you not know that those who perform the sacred rites have their food from the sacred place, and that those who serve at the altar all alike share with the altar?Have ye not known that those working about the things of the temple of the temple do eat, and those waiting at the altar with the altar are partakers?Know you not, that they who work in the holy place, eat the things that are of the holy place; and they that serve the altar, partake with the altar?
1st-Corinthians 9:14Even so did the Lord ordain that they that proclaim the gospel should live of the gospel. In the same way the Lord also directed those who proclaim the Good News to maintain themselves by the Good News.so also did the Lord direct to those proclaiming the good news: of the good news to live.So also the Lord ordained that they who preach the gospel, should live by the gospel.
1st-Corinthians 9:15But I have used none of these things: and I write not these things that it may be so done in my case; for [it were] good for me rather to die, than that any man should make my glorifying void. But I, for my part, have not used, and do not use, my full rights in any of these things. Nor do I now write with that object so far as I myself am concerned, for I would rather die than have anybody make this boast of mine an empty one.And I have used none of these things; neither did I write these things that it may be so done in my case, for [it is] good for me rather to die, than that any one may make my glorying void; But I have used none of these things. Neither have I written these things, that they should be so done unto me: for it is good for me to die, rather than that any man should make my glory void.
1st-Corinthians 9:16For if I preach the gospel, I have nothing to glory of; for necessity is laid upon me; for woe is unto me, if I preach not the gospel. If I go on preaching the Good News, that is nothing for me to boast of; for the necessity is imposed upon me; and alas for me, if I fail to preach it!for if I may proclaim good news, it is no glorying for me, for necessity is laid upon me, and wo is to me if I may not proclaim good news; For if I preach the gospel, it is no glory to me, for a necessity lieth upon me: for woe is unto me if I preach not the gospel.
1st-Corinthians 9:17For if I do this of mine own will, I have a reward: but if not of mine own will, I have a stewardship intrusted to me. And if I preach willingly, I receive my wages; but if against my will, a stewardship has nevertheless been entrusted to me.for if willing I do this, I have a reward; and if unwillingly with a stewardship I have been entrusted! For if I do this thing willingly, I have a reward: but if against my will, a dispensation is committed to me:
1st-Corinthians 9:18What then is my reward? That, when I preach the gospel, I may make the gospel without charge, so as not to use to the full my right in the gospel. What are my wages then? The very fact that the Good News which I preach will cost my hearers nothing, so that I cannot be charged with abuse of my privileges as a Christian preacher. What, then, is my reward? that proclaiming good news, without charge I shall make the good news of the Christ, not to abuse my authority in the good news; What is my reward then? That preaching the gospel, I may deliver the gospel without charge, that I abuse not my power in the gospel.
1st-Corinthians 9:19For though I was free from all [men,] I brought myself under bondage to all, that I might gain the more. Though free from all human control, I have made myself the slave of all in the hope of winning as many converts as possible.for being free from all men, to all men I made myself servant, that the more I might gain; For whereas I was free as to all, I made myself the servant of all, that I might gain the more.
1st-Corinthians 9:20And to the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might gain Jews; to them that are under the law, as under the law, not being myself under the law, that I might gain them that are under the law; To the Jews I have become like a Jew in order to win Jews; to men under the Law as if I were under the Law although I am not in order to win those who are under the Law;and I became to the Jews as a Jew, that Jews I might gain; to those under law as under law, that those under law I might gain; And I became to the Jews, a Jew, that I might gain the Jews:
1st-Corinthians 9:21to them that are without law, as without law, not being without law to God, but under law to Christ, that I might gain them that are without law. to men without Law as if I were without Law although I am not without Law in relation to God but am abiding in Christ's Law in order to win those who are without Law.to those without law, as without law (not being without law to God, but within law to Christ) that I might gain those without law;To them that are under the law, as if I were under the law, (whereas myself was not under the law,) that I might gain them that were under the law. To them that were without the law, as if I were without the law, (whereas I was not without the law of God, but was in the law of Christ,) that I might gain them that were without the law.
1st-Corinthians 9:22To the weak I became weak, that I might gain the weak: I am become all things to all men, that I may by all means save some. To the weak I have become weak, so as to gain the weak. To all men I have become all things, in the hope that in every one of these ways I may save some.I became to the infirm as infirm, that the infirm I might gain; to all men I have become all things, that by all means I may save some.To the weak I became weak, that I might gain the weak. I became all things to all men, that I might save all.
1st-Corinthians 9:23And I do all things for the gospel's sake, that I may be a joint partaker thereof. And I do everything for the sake of the Good News, that I may share with my hearers in its benefits. And this I do because of the good news, that a fellow-partaker of it I may become; And I do all things for the gospel's sake: that I may be made partaker thereof.
1st-Corinthians 9:24Know ye not that they that run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? Even so run; that ye may attain. Do you not know that in the foot-race the runners all run, but that only one gets the prize? You must run like him, in order to win with certainty.have ye not known that those running in a race all indeed run, but one doth receive the prize? so run ye, that ye may obtain;Know you not that they that run in the race, all run indeed, but one receiveth the prize ? So run that you may obtain.
1st-Corinthians 9:25And every man that striveth in the games exerciseth self-control in all things. Now they [do it] to receive a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible. But every competitor in an athletic contest practices abstemiousness in all directions. They indeed do this for the sake of securing a perishable wreath, but we for the sake of securing one that will not perish.and every one who is striving, is in all things temperate; these, indeed, then, that a corruptible crown they may receive, but we an incorruptible; And every one that striveth for the mastery, refraineth himself from all things: and they indeed that they may receive a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible one.
1st-Corinthians 9:26I therefore so run, as not uncertainly; so fight I, as not beating the air: That is how I run, not being in any doubt as to my goal. I am a boxer who does not inflict blows on the air,I, therefore, thus run, not as uncertainly, thus I fight, as not beating air;I therefore so run, not as at an uncertainty: I so fight, not as one beating the air:
1st-Corinthians 9:27but I buffet my body, and bring it into bondage: lest by any means, after that I have preached to others, I myself should be rejected. but I hit hard and straight at my own body and lead it off into slavery, lest possibly, after I have been a herald to others, I should myself be rejected.but I chastise my body, and bring [it] into servitude, lest by any means, having preached to others I myself may become disapproved. But I chastise my body, and bring it into subjection: lest perhaps, when I have preached to others, I myself should become a castaway.
