Psalms 55:1Give ear to my prayer, O God; And hide not thyself from my supplication. Listen to my prayer, God. Don't hide yourself from my supplication.{To the chief Musician. On stringed instruments: an instruction. Of David.} Give ear to my prayer, O God; and hide not thyself from my supplication.Unto the end, for a people that is removed at a distance from the sanctuary for David, for an inscription of a title (or pillar ) when the Philistines held him in Geth.
Psalms 55:2Attend unto me, and answer me: I am restless in my complaint, and moan, Attend to me, and answer me. I am restless in my complaint, and moan,Attend unto me, and answer me: I wander about in my plaint, and I moan aloud,Have mercy on me, O God, for man hath trodden me under foot; all the day long he hath afflicted me fighting against me.
Psalms 55:3Because of the voice of the enemy, Because of the oppression of the wicked; For they cast iniquity upon me, And in anger they persecute me. Because of the voice of the enemy, Because of the oppression of the wicked. For they bring suffering on me. In anger they hold a grudge against me.Because of the voice of the enemy; because of the oppression of the wicked: for they cast iniquity upon me, and in anger they persecute me.My enemies have trodden on me all the day long; for they are many that make war against me.
Psalms 55:4My heart is sore pained within me: And the terrors of death are fallen upon me. My heart is severely pained within me. The terrors of death have fallen on me.My heart is writhing within me, and the terrors of death are fallen upon me.From the height of the day I shall fear: but I will trust in thee.
Psalms 55:5Fearfulness and trembling are come upon me, And horror hath overwhelmed me. Fearfulness and trembling have come on me. Horror has overwhelmed me.Fear and trembling are come upon me, and horror hath overwhelmed me.In God I will praise my words, in God I have put my trust: I will not fear what flesh can do against me.

Psalms 55:9Destroy, O Lord, [and] divide their tongue; For I have seen violence and strife in the city. Confuse them, Lord, and confound their language, For I have seen violence and strife in the city.Swallow [them] up, Lord; divide their tongue: for I have seen violence and strife in the city.I have declared to thee my life: thou hast set my tears in thy sight, As also in thy promise.
Psalms 55:10Day and night they go about it upon the walls thereof: Iniquity also and mischief are in the midst of it. Day and night they prowl around on its walls. Malice and abuse are also within her.Day and night they go about it upon the walls thereof; and iniquity and mischief are in the midst of it.Then shall my enemies be turned back. In what day soever I shall call upon thee, behold I know thou art my God.
Psalms 55:11Wickedness is in the midst thereof: Oppression and guile depart not from its streets. Destructive forces are within her. Threats and lies don't depart from her streets.Perversities are in the midst thereof; and oppression and deceit depart not from its streets.In God will I praise the word, in the Lord will I praise his speech. In God have I hoped, I will not fear what man can do to me.
Psalms 55:12For it was not an enemy that reproached me; Then I could have borne it: Neither was it he that hated me that did magnify himself against me; Then I would have hid myself from him: For it was not an enemy who insulted me, Then I could have endured it. Neither was it he who hated me who raised himself up against me, Then I would have hid myself from him.For it is not an enemy that hath reproached me then could I have borne it; neither is it he that hateth me that hath magnified [himself] against me then would I have hidden myself from him;In me, O God, are vows to thee, which I will pay, praises to thee:
Psalms 55:13But it was thou, a man mine equal, My companion, and my familiar friend. But it was you, a man like me, My companion, and my familiar friend.But it was thou, a man mine equal, mine intimate, my familiar friend. ...Because thou hast delivered my soul from death, my feet from falling: that I may please in the sight of God, in the light of the living.

Psalms 55:18He hath redeemed my soul in peace from the battle that was against me; For they were many [that strove] with me. Psalms 55:19God will hear, and answer them, Even he that abideth of old, Selah [The men] who have no changes, And who fear not God. God, who is enthroned forever, Will hear, and answer them. Selah. They never change, Who don't fear God.ùGod will hear, and afflict them: he that is seated of old, (Selah) ... because there is no change in them, and they fear not God.
