| Psalms 49:1 | Hear this, all ye peoples; Give ear, all ye inhabitants of the world, | To the Overseer. By sons of Korah. A Psalm. Hear this, all ye peoples, Give ear, all ye inhabitants of the world. | A psalm for Asaph. The God of gods, the Lord hath spoken: and he hath called the earth. From the rising of the sun, to the going down thereof: | <Alamoth. To the chief music-maker. Of the sons of Korah. A Psalm.> Give attention to this, all you peoples; let your ears be open, all you who are living in the world. |
| Psalms 49:2 | Both low and high, Rich and poor together. | Both low and high, together rich and needy. | out of Sion the loveliness of his beauty. | High and low together, the poor, and those who have wealth. |
| Psalms 49:3 | My mouth shall speak wisdom; And the meditation of my heart shall be of understanding. | My mouth speaketh wise things, And the meditations of my heart [are] things of understanding. | God shall come manifestly: our God shall come, and shall not keep silence. A fire shall burn before him: and a mighty tempest shall be round about him. | From my mouth will come words of wisdom; and in the thoughts of my heart will be knowledge. |
| Psalms 49:4 | I will incline mine ear to a parable: I will open my dark saying upon the harp. | I incline to a simile mine ear, I open with a harp my riddle: | He shall call heaven from above, and the earth, to judge his people. | I will put my teaching into a story; I will make my dark sayings clear with music. |
| Psalms 49:5 | Wherefore should I fear in the days of evil, When iniquity at my heels compasseth me about? | Why do I fear in days of evil? The iniquity of my supplanters doth compass me. | Gather ye together his saints to him: who set his covenant before sacrifices. | What cause have I for fear in the days of evil, when the evil-doing of those who are working for my downfall is round about me? |
| Psalms 49:6 | They that trust in their wealth, And boast themselves in the multitude of their riches; | Those trusting on their wealth, And in the multitude of their riches, Do shew themselves foolish. | And the heavens shall declare his justice: for God is judge. | Even of those whose faith is in their wealth, and whose hearts are lifted up because of their stores. |
| Psalms 49:7 | None [of them] can by any means redeem his brother, Nor give to God a ransom for him; | A brother doth no one at all ransom, He doth not give to God his atonement. | Hear, O my people, and I will speak: O Israel, and I will testify to thee: I am God, thy God. | Truly, no man may get back his soul for a price, or give to God the payment for himself; |
| Psalms 49:8 | (For the redemption of their life is costly, And it faileth for ever;) | And precious [is] the redemption of their soul, And it hath ceased to the age. | I will not reprove thee for thy sacrifices: and thy burnt offerings are always in my sight. | (Because it takes a great price to keep his soul from death, and man is not able to give it.) |
| Psalms 49:9 | That he should still live alway, That he should not see corruption. | And still he liveth for ever, He seeth not the pit. | I will not take calves out of thy house: nor he goats out of thy flocks. | So that he might have eternal life, and never see the underworld. |
| Psalms 49:10 | For he shall see it. Wise men die; The fool and the brutish alike perish, And leave their wealth to others. | For he seeth wise men die, Together the foolish and brutish perish, And have left to others their wealth. | For all the beasts of the woods are mine: the cattle on the hills, and the oxen. | For he sees that wise men come to their end, and foolish persons of low behaviour come to destruction together, letting their wealth go to others. |
| Psalms 49:11 | Their inward thought is, [that] their houses [shall continue] for ever, [And] their dwelling-places to all generations; They call their lands after their own names. | Their heart [is]: Their houses [are] to the age, Their tabernacles to all generations. They proclaimed their names over the lands. | I know all the fowls of the air: and with me is the beauty of the field. | The place of the dead is their house for ever, and their resting-place through all generations; those who come after them give their names to their lands. |
| Psalms 49:12 | But man [being] in honor abideth not: He is like the beasts that perish. | And man in honour doth not remain, He hath been like the beasts, they have been cut off. | If I should be hungry, I would not tell thee: for the world is mine, and the fulness thereof. | But man, like the animals, does not go on for ever; he comes to an end like the beasts. |
| Psalms 49:13 | This their way is their folly: Yet after them men approve their sayings. Selah | This their way [is] folly for them, And their posterity with their sayings are pleased. Selah. | Shall I eat the flesh of bullocks? or shall I drink the blood of goats? | This is the way of the foolish; their silver is for those who come after them, and their children get the pleasure of their gold. (Selah.) |
| Psalms 49:14 | They are appointed as a flock for Sheol; Death shall be their shepherd; And the upright shall have dominion over them in the morning; And their beauty shall be for Sheol to consume, That there be no habitation for it. | As sheep for Sheol they have set themselves, Death doth afflict them, And the upright rule over them in the morning, And their form [is] for consumption. Sheol [is] a dwelling for him. | Offer to God the sacrifice of praise: and pay thy vows to the most High. | Death will give them their food like sheep; the underworld is their fate and they will go down into it; their flesh is food for worms; their form is wasted away; the underworld is their resting-place for ever. |
| Psalms 49:15 | But God will redeem my soul from the power of Sheol; For he will receive me. Selah | Only, God doth ransom my soul from the hand of Sheol, For He doth receive me. Selah. | And call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me. | But God will get back my soul; for he will take me from the power of death. (Selah.) |
| Psalms 49:16 | Be not thou afraid when one is made rich, When the glory of his house is increased. | Fear not, when one maketh wealth, When the honour of his house is abundant, | But to the sinner God hath said: Why dost thou declare my justices, and take my covenant in thy mouth ? | Have no fear when wealth comes to a man, and the glory of his house is increased; |
| Psalms 49:17 | For when he dieth he shall carry nothing away; His glory shall not descend after him. | For at his death he receiveth nothing, His honour goeth not down after him. | Seeing thou hast hated discipline: and hast cast my words behind thee. | For at his death, he will take nothing away; his glory will not go down after him. |
| Psalms 49:18 | Though while he lived he blessed his soul (And men praise thee, when thou doest well to thyself,) | For his soul in his life he blesseth, (And they praise thee when thou dost well for thyself.) | If thou didst see a thief thou didst run with him: and with adulterers thou hast been a partaker. | Though he might have pride in his soul in his life-time, and men will give you praise if you do well for yourself, |
| Psalms 49:19 | He shall go to the generation of his fathers; They shall never see the light. | It cometh to the generation of his fathers, For ever they see not the light. | Thy mouth hath abounded with evil, and thy tongue framed deceits. | He will go to the generation of his fathers; he will not see the light again. |

Psalm 50 A Psalm of Asaph. | Man in honour, who understandest not, Hath been like the beasts, they have been cut off! | Sitting thou didst speak against thy brother, and didst lay a scandal against thy mother's son: | Man, like the animals, does not go on for ever; he comes to an end like the beasts. |
