Psalms 42:1<To the chief music-maker. Maschil. Of the sons of Korah.> Like the desire of the roe for the water-streams, so is my soul's desire for you, O God.As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God.A psalm for David. Judge me, O God, and distinguish my cause from the nation that is not holy : deliver me from the unjust and deceitful man.As the deer pants for the water brooks, So pants my soul after you, God.
Psalms 42:2My soul is dry for need of God, the living God; when may I come and see the face of God?My soul thirsteth for God, for the living God: when shall I come and appear before God?For thou art God my strength : why hast thou cast me off? and why do I go sorrowful whilst the enemy afflicteth me?My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and appear before God?
Psalms 42:3My tears have been my food day and night, while they keep saying to me, Where is your God?My tears have been my meat day and night, while they continually say unto me, Where is thy God?Send forth thy light and thy truth : they have conducted me, and brought me unto thy holy hill, and into thy tabernacles. My tears have been my food day and night, While they continually ask me, "Where is your God?"
Psalms 42:4Let my soul be overflowing with grief when these things come back to my mind, how I went in company to the house of God, with the voice of joy and praise, with the song of those who were keeping the feast. When I remember these things, I pour out my soul in me: for I had gone with the multitude, I went with them to the house of God, with the voice of joy and praise, with a multitude that kept holyday. And I will go in to the altar of God : to God who giveth joy to my youth. These things I remember, and pour out my soul within me, How I used to go with the crowd, and led them to the house of God, With the voice of joy and praise, a multitude keeping a holy day.
Psalms 42:5Why are you crushed down, O my soul? and why are you troubled in me? put your hope in God; for I will again give him praise who is my help and my God.Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted in me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him for the help of his countenance. To thee, O God my God, I will give praise upon the harp : why art thou sad, O my soul? and why dost thou disquiet me?Why are you in despair, my soul? Why are you disturbed within me? Hope in God! For I shall still praise him for the saving help of his presence.
Psalms 42:6My soul is crushed down in me, so I will keep you in mind; from the land of Jordan and of the Hermons, from the hill Mizar.O my God, my soul is cast down within me: therefore will I remember thee from the land of Jordan, and of the Hermonites, from the hill Mizar.Hope in God, for I will still give praise to him : the salvation of my countenance, and my God.My God, my soul is in despair within me. Therefore I remember you from the land of the Jordan, The heights of Hermon, from the hill Mizar.
Psalms 42:7Deep is sounding to deep at the noise of your waterfalls; all your waves have gone rolling over me.Deep calleth unto deep at the noise of thy waterspouts: all thy waves and thy billows are gone over me.Deep calls to deep at the noise of your waterfalls. All your waves and your billows have swept over me.
Psalms 42:8But the Lord will send his mercy in the daytime, and in the night his song will be with me, a prayer to the God of my life.Yet the LORD will command his lovingkindness in the daytime, and in the night his song shall be with me, and my prayer unto the God of my life.Yahweh will command his lovingkindness in the daytime. In the night his song shall be with me: A prayer to the God of my life.
Psalms 42:9I will say to God my Rock, Why have you let me go from your memory? why do I go in sorrow because of the attacks of my haters?I will say unto God my rock, Why hast thou forgotten me? why go I mourning because of the oppression of the enemy?I will ask God, my rock, "Why have you forgotten me? Why do I go mourning because of the oppression of the enemy?"
Psalms 42:10The cruel words of my haters are like a crushing of my bones; when they say to me every day, Where is your God?As with a sword in my bones, mine enemies reproach me; while they say daily unto me, Where is thy God?As with a sword in my bones, my adversaries reproach me, While they continually ask me, "Where is your God?"
Psalms 42:11Why are you crushed down, O my soul? and why are you troubled in me? put your hope in God; for I will again give him praise who is my help and my God.Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God.Why are you in despair, my soul? Why are you disturbed within me? Hope in God! For I shall still praise him, The saving help of my countenance, and my God. Psalm 43
