| Psalms 72:1 | <Of Solomon.> Give the king your authority, O God, and your righteousness to the king's son. | A Psalm for Solomon. Give the king thy judgments, O God, and thy righteousness to the king's son. | God, give the king your justice; Your righteousness to the royal son. | A psalm for Asaph. How good is God to Israel, to them that are of a right heart! |
| Psalms 72:2 | May he be a judge of your people in righteousness, and make true decisions for the poor. | He shall judge thy people with righteousness, and thy poor with judgment. | He will judge your people with righteousness, And your poor with justice. | But my feet were almost moved; my steps had well nigh slipped. |
| Psalms 72:3 | May the mountains give peace to the people, and the hills righteousness. | The mountains shall bring peace to the people, and the little hills, by righteousness. | The mountains shall bring prosperity to the people; The hills bring the fruit of righteousness. | Because I had a zeal on occasion of the wicked, seeing the prosperity of sinners. |
| Psalms 72:4 | May he be a judge of the poor among the people, may he give salvation to the children of those who are in need; by him let the violent be crushed. | He shall judge the poor of the people, he shall save the children of the needy, and shall break in pieces the oppressor. | He will judge the poor of the people. He will save the children of the needy, And will break the oppressor in pieces. | For there is no regard to their death, nor is there strength in their stripes. |
| Psalms 72:5 | May his life go on as long as the sun and moon, through all generations. | They shall fear thee as long as the sun and moon endure, throughout all generations. | They shall fear you while the sun endures; And as long as the moon, throughout all generations. | They are not in the labour of men: neither shall they be scourged like other men. B Therefore pride hath held them fast: they are covered with their iniquity and their wickedness. |
| Psalms 72:6 | May he come down like rain on the cut grass; like showers watering the earth. | He shall come down like rain upon the mown grass: as showers that water the earth. | He will come down like rain on the mown grass, As showers that water the earth. | Their iniquity hath come forth, as it were from fatness: they have passed into the affection of the heart. |
| Psalms 72:7 | In his days may the upright do well, living in peace as long as there is a moon in heaven. | In his days shall the righteous flourish; and abundance of peace so long as the moon endureth. | In his days, the righteous shall flourish, And abundance of peace, until the moon is no more. | They have thought and spoken wickedness: they have spoken iniquity on high. |
| Psalms 72:8 | Let his kingdom be from sea to sea, from the River to the ends of the earth. | He shall have dominion also from sea to sea, and from the river to the ends of the earth. | He shall have dominion also from sea to sea, From the River to the ends of the earth. | They have set their mouth against heaven: and their tongue hath passed through the earth. |
| Psalms 72:9 | Let those who are against him go down before him; and let his haters be low in the dust. | They that dwell in the wilderness shall bow before him; and his enemies shall lick the dust. | Those who dwell in the wilderness shall bow before him. His enemies shall lick the dust. | Therefore will my people return here and full days shall be found in them. |
| Psalms 72:10 | Let the kings of Tarshish and of the islands come back with offerings; let the kings of Sheba and Seba give of their stores. | The kings of Tarshish and of the isles shall bring presents: the kings of Sheba and Seba shall offer gifts. | The kings of Tarshish and of the isles will bring tribute. The kings of Sheba and Seba shall offer gifts. | And they said: How doth God know? and is there knowledge in the most High? |
| Psalms 72:11 | Yes, let all kings go down before him; let all nations be his servants. | Yes, all kings shall fall down before him: all nations shall serve him. | Yes, all kings shall fall down before him. All nations shall serve him. | Behold these are sinners; and yet abounding in the world they have obtained riches. |
| Psalms 72:12 | For he will be a saviour to the poor in answer to his cry; and to him who is in need, without a helper. | For he shall deliver the needy when he crieth; the poor also, and him that hath no helper. | For he will deliver the needy when he cries; The poor, who has no helper. | And I said: Then have I in vain justified my heart, and washed my hands among the innocent. |
| Psalms 72:13 | He will have pity on the poor, and be the saviour of those who are in need. | He shall spare the poor and needy, and shall save the souls of the needy. | He will have pity on the poor and needy. He will save the souls of the needy. | And I have been scourged all the day; and my chastisement hath been in the mornings. |
| Psalms 72:14 | He will keep their souls free from evil designs and violent attacks; and their blood will be of value in his eyes. | He shall redeem their soul from deceit and violence: and precious shall be their blood in his sight. | He will redeem their soul from oppression and violence. Their blood will be precious in his sight. | If I said: I will speak thus; behold I should condemn the generation of thy children. |
| Psalms 72:15 | May he have long life, and may gold from Sheba be given to him: may prayers be made for him at all times; may blessings be on him every day. | And he shall live, and to him shall be given of the gold of Sheba: prayer also shall be made for him continually; and daily shall he be praised. | They shall live, and to him shall be given of the gold of Sheba. Men shall pray for him continually. They shall bless him all day long. | I studied that I might know this thing, it is a labour in my sight: |
| Psalms 72:16 | May there be wide-stretching fields of grain in the land, shaking on the top of the mountains, full of fruit like Lebanon: may its stems be unnumbered like the grass of the earth. | There shall be a handful of corn in the earth upon the top of the mountains; the fruit of it shall shake like Lebanon: and they of the city shall flourish like grass of the earth. | There shall be abundance of grain throughout the land. Its fruit sways like Lebanon. Let it flourish, thriving like the grass of the field. | Until I go into the sanctuary of God, and understand concerning their last ends. |
| Psalms 72:17 | May his name go on for ever, as long as the sun: may men be blessing themselves by him; may all nations be blessing his name. | His name shall endure for ever: his name shall be continued as long as the sun: and men shall be blessed in him: all nations shall call him blessed. | His name endures forever. His name continues as long as the sun. Men shall be blessed by him. All nations will call him blessed. | But indeed for deceits thou hast put it to them: when they were lifted up thou hast cast them down. |
| Psalms 72:18 | Praise be to the Lord God, the God of Israel, the only doer of wonders. | Blessed be the LORD God, the God of Israel, who only doeth wondrous things. | Praise be to Yahweh God, the God of Israel, Who alone does marvelous deeds. | How are they brought to desolation? they have suddenly ceased to be: they have perished by reason of their iniquity. |
| Psalms 72:19 | Praise to the glory of his noble name for ever; let all the earth be full of his glory. So be it, So be it. | And blessed be his glorious name for ever: and let the whole earth be filled with his glory; Amen, and amen. | Blessed be his glorious name forever! Let the whole earth be filled with his glory! Amen and amen. | As the dream of them that awake, O Lord; so in thy city thou shalt bring their image to nothing. |
| Psalms 72:20 | The prayers of David, the son of Jesse, are ended. <A Psalm. Of Asaph.> | The prayers of David the son of Jesse are ended. | This ends the prayers by David, the son of Jesse. BOOK III Psalm 73 A Psalm by Asaph. | For my heart hath been inflamed, and my reins have been changed: |
