Job 17:1My breath is corrupt, my days are extinct, the graves are mine.My spirit is consumed, my days are extinct, The grave is [ready] for me. My spirit is broken, my days are ended, the last resting-place is ready for me.My spirit hath been destroyed, My days extinguished graves [are] for me.
Job 17:2Are there not mockers around me? and doth [not] mine eye abide in their provocation?Surely there are mockers with me, And mine eye dwelleth upon their provocation. Truly, those who make sport of me are round about me, and my eyes become dark because of their bitter laughing. If not mockeries [are] with me. And in their provocations mine eye lodgeth.
Job 17:3Lay down now [a pledge], be thou surety for me with thyself: who is he that striketh hands with me?Give now a pledge, be surety for me with thyself; Who is there that will strike hands with me? Be pleased, now, to be responsible for me to yourself; for there is no other who will put his hand in mine.Place, I pray Thee, my pledge with Thee; Who is he that striketh hand with me?
Job 17:4For thou hast hidden their heart from understanding; therefore thou wilt not exalt [them].For thou hast hid their heart from understanding: Therefore shalt thou not exalt [them]. You have kept their hearts from wisdom: for this cause you will not give them honour. For their heart Thou hast hidden From understanding, Therefore Thou dost not exalt them.
Job 17:5He that betrayeth friends for a prey even the eyes of his children shall fail.He that denounceth his friends for a prey, Even the eyes of his children shall fail. As for him who is false to his friend for a reward, light will be cut off from the eyes of his children. For a portion he sheweth friendship, And the eyes of his sons are consumed.
Job 17:6And he hath made me a proverb of the peoples; and I am become one to be spit on in the face. But he hath made me a byword of the people; And they spit in my face. He has made me a word of shame to the peoples; I have become a mark for their sport. And he set me up for a proverb of the peoples, And a wonder before them I am.
Job 17:7And mine eye is dim by reason of grief, and all my members are as a shadow.Mine eye also is dim by reason of sorrow, And all my members are as a shadow. My eyes have become dark because of my pain, and all my body is wasted to a shade. And dim from sorrow is mine eye, And my members as a shadow all of them.
Job 17:8Upright men [shall be] astonished at this, and the innocent shall be stirred up against the ungodly;Upright men shall be astonished at this, And the innocent shall stir up himself against the godless. The upright are surprised at this, and he who has done no wrong is troubled because of the evil-doers.Astonished are the upright at this, And the innocent against the profane Stirreth himself up.
Job 17:9But the righteous shall hold on his way, and he that hath clean hands shall increase in strength.Yet shall the righteous hold on his way, And he that hath clean hands shall wax stronger and stronger. Still the upright keeps on his way, and he who has clean hands gets new strength. And the righteous layeth hold [on] his way, And the clean of hands addeth strength, And dumb are they all.
Job 17:10But as for you all, pray come on again; and I shall not find one wise man among you.But as for you all, come on now again; And I shall not find a wise man among you. But come back, now, all of you, come; and I will not see a wise man among you.Return, and come in, I pray you, And I find not among you a wise man.
Job 17:11My days are past, my purposes are broken off, the cherished thoughts of my heart. My days are past, my purposes are broken off, Even the thoughts of my heart. My days are past, my purposes are broken off, even the desires of my heart. My days have passed by, My devices have been broken off, The possessions of my heart!
Job 17:12They change the night into day; the light [they imagine] near in presence of the darkness. They change the night into day: The light, [say they], is near unto the darkness. They are changing night into day; they say, The light is near the dark.Night for day they appoint, Light [is] near because of darkness.
Job 17:13If I wait, Sheol is my house; I spread my bed in the darkness:If I look for Sheol as my house; If I have spread my couch in the darkness; If I am waiting for the underworld as my house, if I have made my bed in the dark;If I wait Sheol [is] my house, In darkness I have spread out my couch.
Job 17:14I cry to the grave, Thou art my father! to the worm, My mother, and my sister! If I have said to corruption, Thou art my father; To the worm, [Thou art] my mother, and my sister; If I say to the earth, You are my father; and to the worm, My mother and my sister; To corruption I have called: `Thou [art] my father.` `My mother` and `my sister` to the worm.
Job 17:15And where is then my hope? yea, my hope, who shall see it?Where then is my hope? And as for my hope, who shall see it? Where then is my hope? and who will see my desire? And where [is] now my hope? Yea, my hope, who doth behold it?
Job 17:16It shall go down to the bars of Sheol, when [our] rest shall be together in the dust.It shall go down to the bars of Sheol, When once there is rest in the dust. Will they go down with me into the underworld? Will we go down together into the dust?[To] the parts of Sheol ye go down, If together on the dust we may rest.
