Proverbs 23:1When thou sittest to eat with a ruler, consider well who is before thee; When you take your seat at the feast with a ruler, give thought with care to what is before you; When thou shalt sit to eat with a prince, consider diligently what is set before thy face. When thou sittest to eat with a ruler, consider diligently what is before thee:
Proverbs 23:2and put a knife to thy throat, if thou be a man given to appetite. And put a knife to your throat, if you have a strong desire for food. And put a knife to thy throat, if it be so that thou have thy soul in thy own power. And put a knife to thy throat, if thou art a man given to appetite.
Proverbs 23:3Be not desirous of his dainties; for they are deceitful food.Have no desire for his delicate food, for it is the bread of deceit.Be not desirous of his meats, in which is the bread of deceit.Be not desirous of his dainties: for they are deceitful food.

Proverbs 23:5wilt thou set thine eyes upon it, it is gone; for indeed it maketh itself wings and it flieth away as an eagle towards the heavens. Are your eyes lifted up to it? it is gone: for wealth takes to itself wings, like an eagle in flight up to heaven.Lift not up thy eyes to riches which thou canst not have: because they shall make themselves wings like those of an eagle, and shall fly towards heaven.Wilt thou set thy eyes upon that which is not? for riches certainly make to themselves wings; they fly away as an eagle towards heaven.
Proverbs 23:6Eat thou not the food of him that hath an evil eye, neither desire thou his dainties.Do not take the food of him who has an evil eye, or have any desire for his delicate meat:Eat not with an envious man, and desire not his meats:Eat thou not the bread of him that hath an evil eye, neither desire thou his dainties:
Proverbs 23:7For as he thinketh in his soul, so is he. Eat and drink! will he say unto thee; but his heart is not with thee. For as the thoughts of his heart are, so is he: Take food and drink, he says to you; but his heart is not with you.Because like a soothsayer, and diviner, he thinketh that which he knoweth not. Eat and drink, will he say to thee: and his mind is not with thee. For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he: Eat and drink, saith he to thee; but his heart is not with thee.
Proverbs 23:8Thy morsel which thou hast eaten must thou vomit up, and thou wilt have wasted thy sweet words. The food which you have taken will come up again, and your pleasing words will be wasted. The meats which thou hadst eaten, thou shalt vomit up: and shalt loose thy beautiful words. The morsel which thou hast eaten shalt thou vomit up, and lose thy sweet words.
Proverbs 23:9Speak not in the ears of a foolish [man], for he will despise the wisdom of thy words.Say nothing in the hearing of a foolish man, for he will put no value on the wisdom of your words.Speak not in the ears of fools: because they will despise the instruction of thy speech.Speak not in the ears of a fool: for he will despise the wisdom of thy words.
Proverbs 23:10Remove not the ancient landmark; and enter not into the fields of the fatherless:Do not let the landmark of the widow be moved, and do not go into the fields of those who have no father;Touch not the bounds of little ones: and enter not into the field of the fatherless:Remove not the old landmark; and enter not into the fields of the fatherless:

Proverbs 23:13Withhold not correction from the child; for [if] thou beatest him with the rod, he shall not die:Do not keep back training from the child: for even if you give him blows with the rod, it will not be death to him.Withhold not correction from a child: for if thou strike him with the rod, he shall not die.Withhold not correction from the child: for if thou beatest him with the rod, he shall not die.
Proverbs 23:14thou shalt beat him with the rod, and shalt deliver his soul from Sheol.Give him blows with the rod, and keep his soul safe from the underworld.Thou shalt beat him with the rod, and deliver his soul from hell.Thou shalt beat him with the rod, and shalt deliver his soul from hell.
Proverbs 23:15My son, if thy heart be wise, my heart shall rejoice, even mine;My son, if your heart becomes wise, I, even I, will be glad in heart; My son, if thy mind be wise, my heart shall rejoice with thee:My son, if thy heart be wise, my heart shall rejoice, even mine.

Proverbs 23:18for surely there is a result, and thine expectation shall not be cut off.For without doubt there is a future, and your hope will not be cut off.Because thou shalt have hope in the latter end, and thy expectation shall not be taken away. For surely there is an end; and thy expectation shall not be cut off.
Proverbs 23:19Thou, my son, hear and be wise, and direct thy heart in the way.Give ear, my son, and be wise, guiding your heart in the right way.Hear thou, my son, and be wise: and guide thy mind in the way.Hear thou, my son, and be wise, and guide thy heart in the way.
Proverbs 23:20Be not among winebibbers, among riotous eaters of flesh.Do not be among those who give themselves to wine-drinking, or among those who make themselves full with meat:Be not in the feasts of great drinkers, nor in their revellings, who contribute flesh to eat:Be not among wine-bibbers; among riotous eaters of flesh:
Proverbs 23:21For the drunkard and the glutton shall come to poverty; and drowsiness clotheth with rags. For those who take delight in drink and feasting will come to be in need; and through love of sleep a man will be poorly clothed.Because they that give themselves to drinking, and that club together shall be consumed; and drowsiness shall be clothed with rags. For the drunkard and the glutton shall come to poverty: and drowsiness shall clothe a man with rags.
Proverbs 23:22Hearken unto thy father that begat thee, and despise not thy mother when she is old.Give ear to your father whose child you are, and do not keep honour from your mother when she is old.Hearken to thy father, that beget thee: and despise not thy mother when she is old.Hearken to thy father that begat thee, and despise not thy mother when she is old.
Proverbs 23:23Buy the truth, and sell it not; wisdom, and instruction, and intelligence.Get for yourself that which is true, and do not let it go for money; get wisdom and teaching and good sense.Buy truth, and do not sell wisdom, and instruction, and understanding.Buy the truth, and sell it not; also wisdom, and instruction, and understanding.
Proverbs 23:24The father of a righteous [man] shall greatly rejoice, and he that begetteth a wise [son] shall have joy of him:The father of the upright man will be glad, and he who has a wise child will have joy because of him.The father of the just rejoiceth greatly: he that hath begotten a wise son, shall have joy in him.The father of the righteous shall greatly rejoice: and he that begetteth a wise child shall have joy of him.

Proverbs 23:28She also lieth in wait as a robber, and increaseth the treacherous among men.Yes, she is waiting secretly like a beast for its food, and deceit by her is increased among men.She lieth in wait in the way as a robber, and him whom she shall see unwary, she will kill. She also lieth in wait as for a prey, and increaseth the transgressors among men.
