Psalms 48:1{A Song; a Psalm. Of the sons of Korah.} Great is Jehovah, and greatly to be praised in the city of our God, in the hill of his holiness.<A Song. A Psalm. Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised in the city of our God, in the mountain of his holiness.
Psalms 48:2Beautiful in elevation, the joy of the whole earth, is mount Zion, [on] the sides of the north, the city of the great King.Beautiful in its high position, the joy of all the earth, is the mountain of Zion, the mountain of God, the town of the great King.Hear these things, all ye nations: give ear, all ye inhabitants of the world.Beautiful for situation, the joy of the whole earth, is mount Zion, on the sides of the north, the city of the great King.
Psalms 48:3God is known in her palaces as a high fortress. In its buildings God is seen to be a high tower. All you that are earthborn, and you sons of men: both rich and poor together.God is known in her palaces for a refuge.
Psalms 48:4For behold, the kings assembled themselves, they passed by together; For see! the kings came together by agreement, they were joined together. My mouth shall speak wisdom: and the meditation of my heart understanding. For lo, the kings were assembled, they passed by together.
Psalms 48:5They saw, so they marvelled; they were troubled, they fled in consternation:They saw it, and so were full of wonder; they were troubled, and went quickly away in fear.I will incline my ear to a parable; I will open my proposition on the psaltery. They saw it, and so they wondered; they were troubled, and hasted away.
Psalms 48:6Trembling took hold upon them there; anguish, as of a woman in travail.Shaking came on them and pain, as on a woman in childbirth. Why shall I fear in the evil day? the iniquity of my heel shall encompass me.Fear took hold upon them there, and pain, as of a woman in travail.
Psalms 48:7With an east wind thou hast broken the ships of Tarshish.By you the ships of Tarshish are broken as by an east wind. They that trust in their own strength, and glory in the multitude of their riches,Thou breakest the ships of Tarshish with an east wind.
Psalms 48:8As we have heard, so have we seen, in the city of Jehovah of hosts, in the city of our God: God doth establish it for ever. Selah. As it came to our ears so have we seen it, in the town of the Lord of armies, in the town of our God; God will keep it fixed for ever. (Selah.)No brother can redeem, nor shall man redeem: he shall not give to God his ransom,As we have heard, so have we seen in the city of the LORD of hosts, in the city of our God: God will establish it for ever. Selah.
Psalms 48:9We have thought, O God, of thy loving-kindness, in the midst of thy temple. Our thoughts were of your mercy, O God, while we were in your Temple.Nor the price of the redemption of his soul: and shall labour for ever,We have thought of thy loving-kindness, O God, in the midst of thy temple.
Psalms 48:10According to thy name, O God, so is thy praise unto the ends of the earth: thy right hand is full of righteousness. As your name is, O God, so is your praise to the ends of the earth; your right hand is full of righteousness.and shall still live unto the end.According to thy name, O God, so is thy praise to the ends of the earth: thy right hand is full of righteousness.
Psalms 48:11Let mount Zion rejoice, let the daughters of Judah be glad, because of thy judgments.Let there be joy in the mountain of Zion, and let the daughters of Judah be glad, because of your wise decisions. He shall not see destruction, when he shall see the wise dying: the senseless and the fool shall perish together: And they shall leave their riches to strangers:Let mount Zion rejoice, let the daughters of Judah be glad, because of thy judgments.
Psalms 48:12Walk about Zion, and go round about her: count the towers thereof;Make your way about Zion, and go round it, numbering its towers.and their sepulchres shall be their houses for ever. Their dwelling places to all generations: they have called their lands by their names.Walk about Zion, and go round her: number her towers.
Psalms 48:13Mark ye well her bulwarks, consider her palaces: that ye may tell it to the generation following.Take note of its strong walls, looking well at its fair buildings; so that you may give word of it to the generation which comes after. And man when he was in honour did not understand; he is compared to senseless beasts, and is become like to them.Mark ye well her bulwarks, consider her palaces; that ye may tell it to the generation following.
Psalms 48:14For this God is our God for ever and ever; he will be our guide until death.Because this God is our God for ever and ever: he will be our guide. This way of theirs is a stumblingblock to them: and afterwards they shall delight in their mouth. For this God is our God for ever and ever: he will be our guide even to death.
