Psalms 72:1{For Solomon.} O God, give the king thy judgments, and thy righteousness unto the king's son.<Of Solomon.> Give the king your authority, O God, and your righteousness to the king's son.A psalm for Asaph. How good is God to Israel, to them that are of a right heart!
Psalms 72:2He will judge thy people with righteousness, and thine afflicted with judgment.May he be a judge of your people in righteousness, and make true decisions for the poor. But my feet were almost moved; my steps had well nigh slipped.
Psalms 72:3The mountains shall bring peace to the people, and the hills, by righteousness.May the mountains give peace to the people, and the hills righteousness.Because I had a zeal on occasion of the wicked, seeing the prosperity of sinners.
Psalms 72:4He will do justice to the afflicted of the people; he will save the children of the needy, and will break in pieces the oppressor.May he be a judge of the poor among the people, may he give salvation to the children of those who are in need; by him let the violent be crushed. For there is no regard to their death, nor is there strength in their stripes.
Psalms 72:5They shall fear thee as long as sun and moon endure, from generation to generation.May his life go on as long as the sun and moon, through all generations. They are not in the labour of men: neither shall they be scourged like other men. B Therefore pride hath held them fast: they are covered with their iniquity and their wickedness.
Psalms 72:6He shall come down like rain on the mown grass, as showers that water the earth.May he come down like rain on the cut grass; like showers watering the earth.Their iniquity hath come forth, as it were from fatness: they have passed into the affection of the heart.
Psalms 72:7In his days shall the righteous flourish, and abundance of peace till the moon be no more.In his days may the upright do well, living in peace as long as there is a moon in heaven. They have thought and spoken wickedness: they have spoken iniquity on high.
Psalms 72:8And he shall have dominion from sea to sea, and from the river unto the ends of the earth.Let his kingdom be from sea to sea, from the River to the ends of the earth. They have set their mouth against heaven: and their tongue hath passed through the earth.
Psalms 72:9The dwellers in the desert shall bow before him, and his enemies shall lick the dust.Let those who are against him go down before him; and let his haters be low in the dust. Therefore will my people return here and full days shall be found in them.
Psalms 72:10The kings of Tarshish and of the isles shall render presents; the kings of Sheba and Seba shall offer tribute:Let the kings of Tarshish and of the islands come back with offerings; let the kings of Sheba and Seba give of their stores. And they said: How doth God know? and is there knowledge in the most High?
Psalms 72:11Yea, all kings shall bow down before him; all nations shall serve him.Yes, let all kings go down before him; let all nations be his servants.Behold these are sinners; and yet abounding in the world they have obtained riches.
Psalms 72:12For he will deliver the needy who crieth, and the afflicted, who hath no helper; For he will be a saviour to the poor in answer to his cry; and to him who is in need, without a helper. And I said: Then have I in vain justified my heart, and washed my hands among the innocent.
Psalms 72:13He will have compassion on the poor and needy, and will save the souls of the needy:He will have pity on the poor, and be the saviour of those who are in need. And I have been scourged all the day; and my chastisement hath been in the mornings.
Psalms 72:14He will redeem their souls from oppression and violence, and precious shall their blood be in his sight. He will keep their souls free from evil designs and violent attacks; and their blood will be of value in his eyes.If I said: I will speak thus; behold I should condemn the generation of thy children.
Psalms 72:15And he shall live; and to him shall be given of the gold of Sheba; and prayer shall be made for him continually: all the day shall he be blessed.May he have long life, and may gold from Sheba be given to him: may prayers be made for him at all times; may blessings be on him every day.I studied that I might know this thing, it is a labour in my sight:
Psalms 72:16There shall be abundance of corn in the earth, upon the top of the mountains; the fruit thereof shall shake like Lebanon; and they of the city shall bloom like the herb of the earth.May there be wide-stretching fields of grain in the land, shaking on the top of the mountains, full of fruit like Lebanon: may its stems be unnumbered like the grass of the earth.Until I go into the sanctuary of God, and understand concerning their last ends.
Psalms 72:17His name shall endure for ever; his name shall be continued as long as the sun: and [men] shall bless themselves in him; all nations shall call him blessed.May his name go on for ever, as long as the sun: may men be blessing themselves by him; may all nations be blessing his name. But indeed for deceits thou hast put it to them: when they were lifted up thou hast cast them down.
Psalms 72:18Blessed be Jehovah Elohim, the God of Israel, who alone doeth wondrous things!Praise be to the Lord God, the God of Israel, the only doer of wonders. How are they brought to desolation? they have suddenly ceased to be: they have perished by reason of their iniquity.
Psalms 72:19And blessed be his glorious name for ever! and let the whole earth be filled with his glory! Amen, and Amen.Praise to the glory of his noble name for ever; let all the earth be full of his glory. So be it, So be it.As the dream of them that awake, O Lord; so in thy city thou shalt bring their image to nothing.
Psalms 72:20The prayers of David the son of Jesse are ended. The prayers of David, the son of Jesse, are ended. <A Psalm. Of Asaph.>For my heart hath been inflamed, and my reins have been changed:
