Proverbs 13:1A wise son [heareth] his father's instruction; but a scorner heareth not rebuke.A wise son is a lover of teaching, but the ears of the haters of authority are shut to sharp words.A wise son listens to his father's instruction, But a scoffer doesn't listen to rebuke.A wise son heareth the doctrine of his father: but he that is a scorner, beareth not when he is reproved.
Proverbs 13:2A man shall eat good by the fruit of his mouth; but the soul of the treacherous, violence.A man will get good from the fruit of his lips, but the desire of the false is for violent acts.By the fruit of his lips, a man enjoys good things; But the unfaithful crave violence.Of the fruit of his own mouth shall a man be filled with good things: but the soul of transgressors is wicked.
Proverbs 13:3He that guardeth his mouth keepeth his soul; destruction shall be to him that openeth wide his lips.He who keeps a watch on his mouth keeps his life; but he whose lips are open wide will have destruction. He who guards his mouth guards his soul. One who opens wide his lips comes to ruin.He that keepeth his mouth, keepeth his soul: but he that hath no guard on his speech shall meet with evils.
Proverbs 13:4A sluggard's soul desireth and hath nothing; but the soul of the diligent shall be made fat.The hater of work does not get his desires, but the soul of the hard workers will be made fat.The soul of the sluggard desires, and has nothing, But the desire of the diligent shall be fully satisfied. The sluggard willeth and willeth not: but the soul of them that work, shall be made fat.
Proverbs 13:5A righteous [man] hateth lying; but the wicked maketh himself odious and cometh to shame. The upright man is a hater of false words: the evil-doer gets a bad name and is put to shame.A righteous man hates lies, But a wicked man brings shame and disgrace. The just shall hate a lying word: but the wicked confoundeth, and shall be confounded.
Proverbs 13:6Righteousness preserveth him that is perfect in the way; but wickedness overthroweth the sinner.Righteousness keeps safe him whose way is without error, but evil-doers are overturned by sin.Righteousness guards the way of integrity, But wickedness overthrows the sinner.Justice keepeth the way of the innocent: but wickedness overthroweth the sinner.
Proverbs 13:7There is that feigneth himself rich, and hath nothing; there is that maketh himself poor, and hath great wealth.A man may be acting as if he had wealth, but have nothing; another may seem poor, but have great wealth. There are some who pretend to be rich, yet have nothing. There are some who pretend to be poor, yet have great wealth. One is as it were rich, when he hath nothing: and another is as it were poor, when he hath great riches.
Proverbs 13:8The ransom of a man's life is his riches; but the indigent heareth not rebuke.A man will give his wealth in exchange for his life; but the poor will not give ear to sharp words. The ransom of a man's life is his riches, But the poor hears no threats. The ransom of a man's life are his riches: but he that is poor beareth not reprehension.
Proverbs 13:9The light of the righteous rejoiceth; but the lamp of the wicked shall be put out. There is a glad dawn for the upright man, but the light of the sinner will be put out.The light of the righteous shines brightly, But the lamp of the wicked is snuffed out.The light of the just giveth joy: but the lamp of the wicked shall be put out.
Proverbs 13:10By pride there only cometh contention; but with the well-advised is wisdom. The only effect of pride is fighting; but wisdom is with the quiet in spirit.By pride comes only quarrels, But with ones who take advice is wisdom.Among the proud there are always contentions: but they that do all things with counsel, are ruled by wisdom.
Proverbs 13:11Wealth [gotten] by vanity diminisheth; but he that gathereth by manual-labour shall increase [it].Wealth quickly got will become less; but he who gets a store by the work of his hands will have it increased.Wealth gained dishonestly dwindles away, But he who gathers by hand makes it grow.Substance got in haste shall be diminished: but that which by little and little is gathered with the hand shall increase.
Proverbs 13:12Hope deferred maketh the heart sick; but the desire [that] cometh to pass is a tree of life.Hope put off is a weariness to the heart; but when what is desired comes, it is a tree of life.Hope deferred makes the heart sick, But when longing is fulfilled, it is a tree of life.Hope that is deferred afflicteth the soul: desire when it cometh is a tree of life.
Proverbs 13:13Whoso despiseth the word shall be held by it; but he that feareth the commandment shall be rewarded. He who makes sport of the word will come to destruction, but the respecter of the law will be rewarded.Whoever despises instruction will pay for it, But he who respects a command will be rewarded.Whosoever speaketh ill of any thing, bindeth himself for the time to come: but he that feareth the commandment, shall dwell in peace. Deceitful souls go astray in sins: the just are merciful, and shew mercy.
Proverbs 13:14The teaching of the wise [man] is a fountain of life, to turn away from the snares of death. The teaching of the wise is a fountain of life, turning men away from the nets of death. The teaching of the wise is a spring of life, To turn from the snares of death. The law of the wise is a fountain of life, that he may decline from the ruin of death.
Proverbs 13:15Good understanding procureth favour; but the way of the treacherous is hard.Wise behaviour gets approval, but the way of the false is their destruction.Good understanding wins favor; But the way of the unfaithful is hard.Good instruction shall give grace: in the way of scorners is a deep pit.
Proverbs 13:16Every prudent [man] acteth with knowledge; but the foolish layeth open [his] folly.A sharp man does everything with knowledge, but a foolish man makes clear his foolish thoughts.Every prudent man acts from knowledge, But a fool exposes folly. The prudent mall doth all things with counsel: but he that is a fool, layeth open his folly.
Proverbs 13:17A wicked messenger falleth into evil; but a faithful ambassador is health.A man taking false news is a cause of trouble, but he who gives news rightly makes things well.A wicked messenger falls into trouble, But a trustworthy envoy gains healing. The messenger of the wicked shall fall into mischief: but a faithful ambassador is health.
Proverbs 13:18Poverty and shame shall be [to] him that refuseth instruction; but he that regardeth reproof shall be honoured.Need and shame will be the fate of him who is uncontrolled by training; but he who takes note of teaching will be honoured.Poverty and shame come to him who refuses discipline, But he who heeds correction shall be honored.Poverty and shame to him that refuseth instruction: but he that yieldeth to reproof, shall be glorified.
Proverbs 13:19The desire accomplished is sweet to the soul; but it is abomination to the foolish to depart from evil.To get one's desire is sweet to the soul, but to give up evil is disgusting to the foolish.Longing fulfilled is sweet to the soul, But fools detest turning from evil. The desire that is accomplished, delighteth the soul: fools hate them that flee from evil things.
Proverbs 13:20He that walketh with wise [men] becometh wise; but a companion of the foolish will be depraved.Go with wise men and be wise: but he who keeps company with the foolish will be broken. One who walks with wise men grows wise, But a companion of fools suffers harm.He that walketh with the wise, shall be wise: a friend of fools shall become like to them.
Proverbs 13:21Evil pursueth sinners; but to the righteous good shall be repaid.Evil will overtake sinners, but the upright will be rewarded with good.Misfortune pursues sinners, But prosperity rewards the righteous.21Evil pursueth sinners: and to the just good shall be repaid.
Proverbs 13:22A good man leaveth an inheritance to his children's children; but the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the righteous [man].The heritage of the good man is handed down to his children's children; and the wealth of the sinner is stored up for the upright man.A good man leaves an inheritance to his children's children, But the wealth of the sinner is stored for the righteous. The good man leaveth heirs, sons, and grandsons: and the substance of the sinner is kept for the just.
Proverbs 13:23Much food is in the tillage of the poor; but there is that is lost for want of judgment. There is much food in the ploughed land of the poor; but it is taken away by wrongdoing. An abundance of food is in poor people's fields, But injustice sweeps it away.Much food is in the tillage of fathers: but for others it is gathered with out judgment.
Proverbs 13:24He that spareth his rod hateth his son; but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes. He who keeps back his rod is unkind to his son: the loving father gives punishment with care. One who spares the rod hates his son, But one who loves him is careful to discipline him.He that spareth the rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him correcteth him betimes.
Proverbs 13:25The righteous eateth to the satisfying of his soul; but the belly of the wicked shall want. The upright man has food to the full measure of his desire, but there will be no food for the stomach of evil-doers.The righteous one eats to the satisfying of his soul, But the belly of the wicked goes hungry. The just eateth and filleth his soul: but the belly of the wicked is never to be filled.
