Psalms 44:1{To the chief Musician. Of the sons of Korah. An instruction.} O God, with our ears have we heard, our fathers have told us, the work thou wroughtest in their days, in the days of old:To the chief Musician for the sons of Korah, Maschil. We have heard with our ears, O God, our fathers have told us, what work thou didst in their days, in the times of old.To the Overseer. By sons of Korah. An Instruction. O God, with our ears we have heard, Our fathers have recounted to us, The work Thou didst work in their days, In the days of old.Unto the end, for them that shall be changed, for the sons of Core, for understanding. A canticle for the Beloved.
Psalms 44:2Thou, by thy hand, didst dispossess the nations, but them thou didst plant; thou didst afflict the peoples, but them didst thou cause to spread out.How thou didst drive out the heathen with thy hand, and didst plant them; how thou didst afflict the people, and cast them out.Thou, [with] Thy hand, nations hast dispossessed. And Thou dost plant them. Thou afflictest peoples, and sendest them away.My heart hath uttered a good word I speak my works to the king; My tongue is the pen of a scrivener that writeth swiftly.
Psalms 44:3For not by their own sword did they take possession of the land, neither did their own arm save them; but thy right hand, and thine arm, and the light of thy countenance, because thou hadst delight in them.For they obtained not the land in possession by their own sword, neither did their own arm save them: but thy right hand, and thy arm, and the light of thy countenance, because thou hadst a favor to them.For, not by their sword Possessed they the land, And their arm gave not salvation to them, But Thy right hand, and Thine arm, And the light of Thy countenance, Because Thou hadst accepted them.Thou art beautiful above the sons of men: grace is poured abroad in thy lips; therefore hath God blessed thee for ever
Psalms 44:4Thou thyself art my king, O God: command deliverance for Jacob.Thou art my King, O God: command deliverances for Jacob.Thou [art] He, my king, O God, Command the deliverances of Jacob.Gird thy sword upon thy thigh, O thou most mighty.
Psalms 44:5Through thee will we push down our adversaries; through thy name will we tread them under that rise up against us.Through thee will we push down our enemies: through thy name we will tread them under that rise up against us.By Thee our adversaries we do push, By Thy name tread down our withstanders,With thy comeliness and thy beauty set out, proceed prosperously, and reign. Because of truth and meekness and justice: and thy right hand shall conduct thee wonderfully.
Psalms 44:6For I will not put confidence in my bow, neither shall my sword save me.For I will not trust in my bow, neither shall my sword save me.For, not in my bow do I trust, And my sword doth not save me.Thy arrows are sharp: under thee shall people fall, into the hearts of the king's enemies.
Psalms 44:7For thou hast saved us from our adversaries, and hast put them to shame that hate us.But thou hast saved us from our enemies, and hast put them to shame that hated us.For Thou hast saved us from our adversaries, And those hating us Thou hast put to shame.Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: the sceptre of thy kingdom is a sceptre of uprightness.
Psalms 44:8In God will we boast all the day, and we will praise thy name for ever. Selah.In God we boast all the day long, and praise thy name for ever. Selah.In God we have boasted all the day, And Thy name to the age we thank. Selah.Thou hast loved justice, and hated iniquity: therefore God, thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows.
Psalms 44:9But thou hast cast off, and put us to confusion, and dost not go forth with our armies;But thou hast cast off, and put us to shame; and goest not forth with our armies.In anger Thou hast cast off and causest us to blush, And goest not forth with our hosts.Myrrh and stacte and cassia perfume thy garments, from the ivory houses: out of which
Psalms 44:10Thou hast made us to turn back from the adversary, and they that hate us spoil for themselves;Thou makest us to turn back from the enemy: and they who hate us plunder for themselves.Thou causest us to turn backward from an adversary, And those hating us, Have spoiled for themselves.the daughters of kings have delighted thee in thy glory. The queen stood on thy right hand, in gilded clothing; surrounded with variety.
Psalms 44:11Thou hast given us over like sheep [appointed] for meat, and hast scattered us among the nations;Thou hast given us like sheep appointed for food; and hast scattered us among the heathen.Thou makest us food like sheep, And among nations Thou hast scattered us.Hearken, O daughter, and see, and incline thy ear: and forget thy people and thy father's house.
Psalms 44:12Thou hast sold thy people for nought, and hast not increased [thy wealth] by their price;Thou sellest thy people for naught, and dost not increase thy wealth by their price.Thou sellest Thy people without wealth, And hast not become great by their price.And the king shall greatly desire thy beauty; for he is the Lord thy God, and him they shall adore.
Psalms 44:13Thou makest us a reproach to our neighbours, a mockery and a derision for them that are round about us;Thou makest us a reproach to our neighbors, a scorn and a derision to them that are around us.Thou makest us a reproach to our neighbours, A scorn and a reproach to our surrounders.And the daughters of Tyre with gifts, yea, all the rich among the people, shall entreat thy countenance.
Psalms 44:14Thou makest us a byword among the nations, a shaking of the head among the peoples.Thou makest us a by-word among the heathen, a shaking of the head among the people.Thou makest us a simile among nations, A shaking of the head among peoples.All the glory of the king's daughter is within in golden borders,
Psalms 44:15All the day my confusion is before me, and the shame of my face hath covered me,My confusion is continually before me, and the shame of my face hath covered me,All the day my confusion [is] before me, And the shame of my face hath covered me.clothed round about with varieties. After her shall virgins be brought to the king: her neighbours shall be brought to thee.
Psalms 44:16Because of the voice of him that reproacheth and blasphemeth; by reason of the enemy and the avenger.For the voice of him that reproacheth and blasphemeth; by reason of the enemy and avenger.Because of the voice of a reproacher and reviler, Because of an enemy and a self-avenger.They shall be brought with gladness and rejoicing: they shall be brought into the temple of the king.
Psalms 44:17All this is come upon us; yet have we not forgotten thee, neither have we dealt falsely against thy covenant:All this is come upon us; yet we have not forgotten thee, neither have we dealt falsely in thy covenant.All this met us, and we did not forget Thee, Nor have we dealt falsely in Thy covenant.Instead of thy fathers, sons are born to thee: thou shalt make them princes over all the earth.
Psalms 44:18Our heart is not turned back, neither have our steps declined from thy path;Our heart is not turned back, neither have our steps declined from thy way;We turn not backward our heart, Nor turn aside doth our step from Thy path.They shall remember thy name throughout all generations. Therefore shall people praise thee for ever; yea, for ever and ever.
Psalms 44:19Though thou hast crushed us in the place of jackals, and covered us with the shadow of death.Though thou hast severely broke us in the place of dragons, and covered us with the shades of death.But Thou hast smitten us in a place of dragons, And dost cover us over with death-shade.
Psalms 44:20If we had forgotten the name of our God, and stretched out our hands to a strange ùgod,If we have forgotten the name of our God, or stretched out our hands to a strange god;If we have forgotten the name of our God, And spread our hands to a strange God,
Psalms 44:21Would not God search this out? for he knoweth the secrets of the heart.Will not God search out this? for he knoweth the secrets of the heart.Doth not God search out this? For He knoweth the secrets of the heart.
Psalms 44:22But for thy sake are we killed all the day long; we are reckoned as sheep for slaughter.Yes, for thy sake are we killed all the day long; we are counted as sheep for the slaughter.Surely, for Thy sake we have been slain all the day, Reckoned as sheep of the slaughter.
Psalms 44:23Awake, why sleepest thou, Lord? arise, cast [us] not off for ever.Awake, why sleepest thou, O Lord? arise, cast us not off for ever.Stir up why dost Thou sleep, O Lord? Awake, cast us not off for ever.
Psalms 44:24Wherefore hidest thou thy face, [and] forgettest our affliction and our oppression?Why hidest thou thy face, and forgettest our affliction and our oppression?Why Thy face hidest Thou? Thou forgettest our afflictions and our oppression,
Psalms 44:25For our soul is bowed down to the dust; our belly cleaveth unto the earth.For our soul is bowed down to the dust: our belly cleaveth to the earth.For bowed to the dust hath our soul, Cleaved to the earth hath our belly.
Psalms 44:26Rise up for our help, and redeem us for thy loving-kindness' sake.Arise for our help, and redeem us for thy mercies' sake.Arise, a help to us, And ransom us for thy kindness` sake.
