| Job 1:1 | There was a man in the land of Uz whose name was Job; and this man was perfect and upright, and one that feared God and abstained from evil. | | There was a man in the land of Uz whose name was Job. He was without sin and upright, fearing God and keeping himself far from evil. | A man there hath been in the land of Uz Job his name and that man hath been perfect and upright both fearing God, and turning aside from evil. |
| Job 1:2 | And there were born to him seven sons and three daughters. | | And he had seven sons and three daughters. | And there are borne to him seven sons and three daughters, |
| Job 1:3 | And his substance was seven thousand sheep, and three thousand camels, and five hundred yoke of oxen, and five hundred she-asses, and very many servants; and this man was greater than all the children of the east. | | And of cattle he had seven thousand sheep and goats, and three thousand camels, and a thousand oxen, and five hundred she-asses, and a very great number of servants. And the man was greater than any of the sons of the east. | and his substance is seven thousand sheep, and three thousand camels, and five hundred pairs of oxen, and five hundred she-asses, and a service very abundant; and that man is greater than any of the sons of the east. |
| Job 1:4 | And his sons went and made a feast in the house of each one on his day; and they sent and invited their three sisters to eat and to drink with them. | | His sons regularly went to one another's houses, and every one on his day gave a feast: and at these times they sent for their three sisters to take part in their feasts with them. | And his sons have gone and made a banquet the house of each [in] his day and have sent and called to their three sisters to eat and to drink with them; |
| Job 1:5 | And it was so, when the days of the feasting were gone about, that Job sent and hallowed them; and he rose up early in the morning, and offered up burnt-offerings [according to] the number of them all; for Job said, It may be that my children have sinned, and cursed God in their hearts. Thus did Job continually. | | And at the end of their days of feasting, Job sent and made them clean, getting up early in the morning and offering burned offerings for them all. For, Job said, It may be that my sons have done wrong and said evil of God in their hearts. And Job did this whenever the feasts came round. | and it cometh to pass, when they have gone round the days of the banquet, that Job doth send and sanctify them, and hath risen early in the morning, and caused to ascend burnt-offerings the number of them all for Job said, `Perhaps my sons have sinned, yet blessed God in their heart.` Thus doth Job all the days. |
| Job 1:6 | And there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before Jehovah; and Satan came also among them. | | And there was a day when the sons of the gods came together before the Lord, and the Satan came with them. | And the day is, that sons of God come in to station themselves by Jehovah, and there doth come also the Adversary in their midst. |
| Job 1:7 | And Jehovah said to Satan, Whence comest thou? And Satan answered Jehovah and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it. | | And the Lord said to the Satan, Where do you come from? And the Satan said in answer, From wandering this way and that on the earth, and walking about on it. | And Jehovah saith unto the Adversary, `Whence comest thou?` And the Adversary answereth Jehovah and saith, `From going to and fro in the land, and from walking up and down on it.` |
| Job 1:8 | And Jehovah said to Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him on the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God and abstaineth from evil? | | And the Lord said to the Satan, Have you taken note of my servant Job, for there is no one like him on the earth, a man without sin and upright, fearing God and keeping himself far from evil? | And Jehovah saith unto the Adversary, `Hast thou set thy heart against My servant Job because there is none like him in the land, a man perfect and upright, fearing God, and turning aside from evil?` |
| Job 1:9 | And Satan answered Jehovah and said, Doth Job fear God for nought? | | And the Satan said in answer to the Lord, Is it for nothing that Job is a god-fearing man? | And the Adversary answereth Jehovah and saith, `For nought is Job fearing God? |
| Job 1:10 | Hast not thou made a hedge about him, and about his house, and about all that he hath on every side? Thou hast blessed the work of his hands, and his substance is spread abroad in the land. | | Have you yourself not put a wall round him and his house and all he has on every side, blessing the work of his hands, and increasing his cattle in the land? | Hast not Thou made a hedge for him, and for his house, and for all that he hath round about? |
| Job 1:11 | But put forth thy hand now and touch all that he hath, [and see] if he will not curse thee to thy face! | | But now, put out your hand against all he has, and he will be cursing you to your face. | The work of his hands Thou hast blessed, and his substance hath spread in the land, and yet, put forth, I pray Thee, Thy hand, and strike against anything that he hath if not: to Thy face he doth bless Thee!` |
| Job 1:12 | And Jehovah said to Satan, Behold, all that he hath is in thy hand; only upon himself put not forth thy hand. So Satan went forth from the presence of Jehovah. | | And the Lord said to the Satan, See, I give all he has into your hands, only do not put a finger on the man himself. And the Satan went out from before the Lord. | And Jehovah saith unto the Adversary, `Lo, all that he hath [is] in thy hand, only unto him put not forth thy hand.` And the Adversary goeth out from the presence of Jehovah. |
| Job 1:13 | And there was a day when his sons and his daughters were eating and drinking wine in the house of their brother, the firstborn. | | And there was a day when his sons and daughters were feasting in the house of their oldest brother, | And the day is, that his sons and his daughters are eating, and drinking wine, in the house of their brother, the first-born. |

| Job 1:15 | and [they of] Sheba fell [upon them] and took them, and the servants have they smitten with the edge of the sword; and I only am escaped, alone, to tell thee. | | And the men of Sheba came against them and took them away, putting the young men to the sword, and I was the only one who got away safe to give you the news. | and Sheba doth fall, and take them, and the young men they have smitten by the mouth of the sword, and I am escaped only I alone to declare [it] to thee.` |
| Job 1:16 | While he was yet speaking, there came another and said, The fire of God fell from heaven and burned up the sheep and the servants, and consumed them; and I only am escaped, alone, to tell thee. | | And this one was still talking when another came, and said, The fire of God came down from heaven, burning up the sheep and the goats and the young men completely, and I was the only one who got away safe to give you the news. | While this [one] is speaking another also hath come and saith, `Fire of God hath fallen from the heavens, and burneth among the flock, and among the young men, and consumeth them, and I am escaped only I alone to declare [it] to thee.` |
| Job 1:17 | While he was yet speaking, there came another and said, The Chaldeans made three bands, and fell upon the camels and took them, and the servants have they smitten with the edge of the sword; and I only am escaped, alone, to tell thee. | | And this one was still talking when another came, and said, The Chaldaeans made themselves into three bands, and came down on the camels and took them away, putting the young men to the sword, and I was the only one who got away safe to give you the news. | While this [one] is speaking another also hath come and saith, `Chaldeans made three heads, and rush on the camels, and take them, and the young men they have smitten by the mouth of the sword, and I am escaped only I alone to declare [it] to thee.` |
| Job 1:18 | While he was yet speaking, there came another and said, Thy sons and thy daughters were eating and drinking wine in the house of their brother, the firstborn; | | And this one was still talking when another came, and said, Your sons and your daughters were feasting together in their oldest brother's house, | While this [one] is speaking another also hath come and saith, `Thy sons and thy daughters are eating, and drinking wine, in the house of their brother, the first-born. |
| Job 1:19 | and behold, there came a great wind from over the wilderness, and smote the four corners of the house, and it fell upon the young men, and they died; and I only am escaped, alone, to tell thee. | | When a great wind came rushing from the waste land against the four sides of the house, and it came down on the young men, and they are dead; and I was the only one who got away safe to give you the news. | And lo, a great wind hath come from over the wilderness, and striketh against the four corners of the house, and it falleth on the young men, and they are dead, and I am escaped only I alone to declare [it] to thee.` |
| Job 1:20 | And Job rose up, and rent his mantle, and shaved his head, and fell down on the ground, and worshipped; | | Then Job got up, and after parting his clothing and cutting off his hair, he went down on his face to the earth, and gave worship, and said, | And Job riseth, and rendeth his robe, and shaveth his head, and falleth to the earth, and doth obeisance, |
| Job 1:21 | and he said, Naked came I out of my mother's womb, and naked shall I return thither: Jehovah gave, and Jehovah hath taken away; blessed be the name of Jehovah! | | With nothing I came out of my mother's body, and with nothing I will go back there; the Lord gave and the Lord has taken away; let the Lord's name be praised. | and he saith, `Naked came I forth from the womb of my mother, and naked I turn back thither: Jehovah hath given and Jehovah hath taken: let the name of Jehovah be blessed.` |
| Job 1:22 | In all this Job sinned not, nor ascribed anything unseemly to God. | | In all this Job did no sin, and did not say that God's acts were foolish. | In all this Job hath not sinned, nor given folly to God. |
