Isaiah 23:1The burden of Tyre. Howl, ye ships of Tarshish! for it is laid waste, so that there is no house, none entering in. From the land of Chittim it is revealed to them.The burden of Tyre. Howl, you ships of Tarshish; for it is laid waste, so that there is no house, no entering in: from the land of Kittim it is revealed to them.
Isaiah 23:2Be still, ye inhabitants of the isle! The merchants of Sidon, that pass over the sea, have replenished thee.Be still, you inhabitants of the coast, you whom the merchants of Sidon, that pass over the sea, have replenished.
Isaiah 23:3And on great waters, the seed of Shihor, the harvest of the Nile, was her revenue; and she was the market of the nations.On great waters the seed of the Shihor, the harvest of the Nile, was her revenue; and she was the market of nations.
Isaiah 23:4Be thou ashamed, Sidon, for the sea hath spoken, the strength of the sea, saying, I have not travailed nor brought forth, neither have I nourished young men [nor] brought up virgins.Be you ashamed, Sidon; for the sea has spoken, the stronghold of the sea, saying, I have not travailed, nor brought forth, neither have I nourished young men, nor brought up virgins.
Isaiah 23:5When the report came into Egypt, they were sorely pained at the news of Tyre.When the report comes to Egypt, they shall be sorely pained at the report of Tyre.
Isaiah 23:6Pass over to Tarshish; howl, ye inhabitants of the coast!Pass you over to Tarshish; wail, you inhabitants of the coast.
Isaiah 23:7Is this your joyous [city], whose antiquity is of ancient days? Her feet shall carry her afar off to sojourn.Is this your joyous [city], whose antiquity is of ancient days, whose feet carried her afar off to sojourn?
Isaiah 23:8Who hath purposed this against Tyre, the distributor of crowns, whose merchants were princes, whose dealers were the honourable of the earth?Who has purposed this against Tyre, the giver of crowns, whose merchants are princes, whose traffickers are the honorable of the earth?
Isaiah 23:9Jehovah of hosts hath purposed it, to profane the pride of all glory, to bring to nought all the honourable of the earth.Yahweh of hosts has purposed it, to stain the pride of all glory, to bring into contempt all the honorable of the earth.
Isaiah 23:10Overflow thy land like the Nile, daughter of Tarshish: there is no more restraint.Pass through your land as the Nile, daughter of Tarshish; there is no restraint any more.
Isaiah 23:11He hath stretched out his hand over the sea, he shaketh the kingdoms. Jehovah hath given a commandment concerning Canaan, to destroy the strongholds thereof,He has stretched out his hand over the sea, he has shaken the kingdoms: Yahweh has given commandment concerning Canaan, to destroy the strongholds of it.
Isaiah 23:12and hath said, Thou shalt no more exult, [thou] oppressed virgin, daughter of Sidon: get thee up, pass over to Chittim; even there shalt thou have no rest.He said, You shall no more rejoice, you oppressed virgin daughter of Sidon: arise, pass over to Kittim; even there shall you have no rest.
Isaiah 23:13Behold the land of the Chaldeans: this people did not exist; the Assyrian founded it for the dwellers in the desert: they set up their towers, they destroyed the palaces thereof; he brought it to ruin.Behold, the land of the Chaldeans: this people was not; the Assyrian founded it for those who dwell in the wilderness; they set up their towers; they overthrew the palaces of it; they made it a ruin.
Isaiah 23:14Howl, ships of Tarshish! for your fortress is laid waste.Howl, you ships of Tarshish; for your stronghold is laid waste.
Isaiah 23:15And it shall come to pass in that day, that Tyre shall be forgotten seventy years, according to the days of one king. At the end of seventy years it shall be for Tyre as the harlot's song.It shall come to pass in that day, that Tyre shall be forgotten seventy years, according to the days of one king: after the end of seventy years it shall be to Tyre as in the song of the prostitute.
Isaiah 23:16Take a harp, go about the city, thou forgotten harlot! Make sweet melody, sing many songs, that thou mayest be remembered.Take a harp, go about the city, you prostitute that has been forgotten; make sweet melody, sing many songs, that you may be remembered.
Isaiah 23:17And it shall come to pass at the end of seventy years, that Jehovah will visit Tyre; and she will return to her hire, and will commit fornication with all the kingdoms of the earth upon the face of the ground.It shall happen after the end of seventy years, that Yahweh will visit Tyre, and she shall return to her hire, and shall play the prostitute with all the kingdoms of the world on the surface of the earth.
Isaiah 23:18And her merchandise and her hire shall be holy to Jehovah: it shall not be treasured nor laid up; for her merchandise shall be for them that dwell before Jehovah, to eat and be sufficed, and for excellent clothing.Her merchandise and her hire shall be holiness to Yahweh: it shall not be treasured nor laid up; for her merchandise shall be for those who dwell before Yahweh, to eat sufficiently, and for durable clothing.
