| 1st-Corinthians 8:1 | Now concerning those things that are sacrificed to idols, we know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffeth up; but charity edifieth. | Now concerning things sacrificed to idols: We know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffeth up, but love edifieth. | Now about things offered to images: we all seem to ourselves to have knowledge. Knowledge gives pride, but love gives true strength. | And concerning the things sacrificed to idols, we have known that we all have knowledge: knowledge puffeth up, but love buildeth up; |
| 1st-Corinthians 8:2 | And if any man think that he knoweth any thing, he hath not yet known as he ought to know. | If any man thinketh that he knoweth anything, he knoweth not yet as he ought to know; | If anyone seems to himself to have knowledge, so far he has not the right sort of knowledge about anything; | and if any one doth think to know anything, he hath not yet known anything according as it behoveth [him] to know; |
| 1st-Corinthians 8:3 | But if any any love God, the same is known by him. | but if any man loveth God, the same is known by him. | But if anyone has love for God, God has knowledge of him. | and if any one doth love God, this one hath been known by Him. |
| 1st-Corinthians 8:4 | But as for the meats that are sacrificed to idols, we know that an idol is nothing in the world, and that there is no God but one. | Concerning therefore the eating of things sacrificed to idols, we know that no idol is [anything] in the world, and that there is no God but one. | So, then, as to the question of taking food offered to images, we are certain that an image is nothing in the world, and that there is no God but one. | Concerning the eating then of the things sacrificed to idols, we have known that an idol [is] nothing in the world, and that there is no other God except one; |
| 1st-Corinthians 8:5 | For although there be that are called gods, either in heaven or on earth (for there be gods many, and lords many); | For though there be that are called gods, whether in heaven or on earth; as there are gods many, and lords many; | For though there are those who have the name of gods, in heaven or on earth, as there are a number of gods and a number of lords, | for even if there are those called gods, whether in heaven, whether upon earth as there are gods many and lords many |
| 1st-Corinthians 8:6 | Yet to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we unto him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him. | yet to us there is one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we unto him; and one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom are all things, and we through him. | There is for us only one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we are for him; and one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom are all things, and we have our being through him. | yet to us [is] one God, the Father, of whom [are] the all things, and we to Him; and one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom [are] the all things, and we through Him; |
| 1st-Corinthians 8:7 | But there is not knowledge in every one. For some until this present, with conscience of the idol: eat as a thing sacrificed to an idol, and their conscience, being weak, is defiled. | Howbeit there is not in all men that knowledge: but some, being used until now to the idol, eat as [of] a thing sacrificed to an idol; and their conscience being weak is defiled. | Still, all men have not that knowledge: but some, being used till now to the image, are conscious that they are taking food which has been offered to the image; and because they are not strong in the faith, their minds are troubled. | but not in all men [is] the knowledge, and certain with conscience of the idol, till now, as a thing sacrificed to an idol do eat [it], and their conscience, being weak, is defiled. |
| 1st-Corinthians 8:8 | But meat doth not commend us to God. For neither, if we eat, shall we have the more; nor, if we eat not, shall we have the less. | But food will not commend us to God: neither, if we eat not, are we the worse; nor, if we eat, are we the better. | But God's approval of us is not based on the food we take: if we do not take it we are no worse for it; and if we take it we are no better. | But victuals do not commend us to God, for neither if we may eat are we in advance; nor if we may not eat, are we behind; |
| 1st-Corinthians 8:9 | But take heed lest perhaps this your liberty become a stumblingblock to the weak. | But take heed lest by any means this liberty of yours become a stumblingblock to the weak. | But take care that this power of yours does not give cause for trouble to the feeble. | but see, lest this privilege of yours may become a stumbling-block to the infirm, |
| 1st-Corinthians 8:10 | For if a man see him that hath knowledge sit at meat in the idol's temple, shall not his conscience, being weak, be emboldened to eat those things which are sacrificed to idols ? | For if a man see thee who hast knowledge sitting at meat in an idol's temple, will not his conscience, if he is weak, be emboldened to eat things sacrificed to idols? | For if a man sees you, who have knowledge, taking food as a guest in the house of an image, will it not give him, if he is feeble, the idea that he may take food offered to images? | for if any one may see thee that hast knowledge in an idol`s temple reclining at meat shall not his conscience he being infirm be emboldened to eat the things sacrificed to idols, |
| 1st-Corinthians 8:11 | And through thy knowledge shall the weak brother perish, for whom Christ hath died ? | For through thy knowledge he that is weak perisheth, the brother for whose sake Christ died. | And so, through your knowledge, you are the cause of destruction to your brother, for whom Christ underwent death. | and the brother who is infirm shall perish by thy knowledge, because of whom Christ died? |
| 1st-Corinthians 8:12 | Now when you sin thus against the brethren, and wound their weak conscience, you sin against Christ. | And thus, sinning against the brethren, and wounding their conscience when it is weak, ye sin against Christ. | And in this way, doing evil to the brothers, and causing trouble to those whose faith is feeble, you are sinning against Christ. | and thus sinning in regard to the brethren, and smiting their weak conscience in regard to Christ ye sin; |
| 1st-Corinthians 8:13 | Wherefore, if meat scandalize my brother, I will never eat flesh, lest I should scandalize my brother. | Wherefore, if meat causeth my brother to stumble, I will eat no flesh for evermore, that I cause not my brother to stumble. | For this reason, if food is a cause of trouble to my brother, I will give up taking meat for ever, so that I may not be a cause of trouble to my brother. | wherefore, if victuals cause my brother to stumble, I may eat no flesh to the age that my brother I may not cause to stumble. |
