| Joshua 9:1 | Now When these things were heard of, all the kings beyond the Jordan, that dwelt in the mountains and in the plains, in the places near the sea, and on the coasts of the great sea, they also that dwell by Libanus, the Hethite and the Amorrhite, the Chanaanite, the Pherezite, and the Hevite, and the Jebusite, | And it came to pass, when all the kings that were beyond the Jordan, in the hill-country, and in the lowland, and on all the shore of the great sea in front of Lebanon, the Hittite, and the Amorite, the Canaanite, the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite, heard thereof; | Now on hearing the news of these things, all the kings on the west side of Jordan, in the hill-country and the lowlands and by the Great Sea in front of Lebanon, the Hittites and the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites, | And it cometh to pass, when all the kings who [are] beyond the Jordan, in the hill-country, and in the low-country, and in every haven of the great sea, over-against Lebanon, the Hittite, and the Amorite, the Canaanite, the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite, hear |
| Joshua 9:2 | Gathered themselves together, to fight against Josue and Israel with one mind, and one resolution. | that they gathered themselves together, to fight with Joshua and with Israel, with one accord. | Came together with one purpose, to make war against Joshua and Israel. | that they gather themselves together to fight with Joshua, and with Israel one mouth. |

| Joshua 9:4 | Cunningly devising took for themselves provisions, laying old sacks upon their asses, and wine bottles rent and sewed up again, | they also did work wilily, and went and made as if they had been ambassadors, and took old sacks upon their asses, and wine-skins, old and rent and bound up, | Acting with deceit, got food together as if for a long journey; and took old food-bags for their asses, and old and cracked wine-skins kept together with cord; | and they work, even they, with subtilty, and go, and feign to be ambassadors, and take old sacks for their asses, and wine-bottles, old, and rent, and bound up, |
| Joshua 9:5 | And very old shoes, which for a show of age were clouted with patches, and old garments upon them: the leaves also, which they carried for provisions by the way, were hard, and broken into pieces: | and old and patched shoes upon their feet, and old garments upon them; and all the bread of their provision was dry and was become mouldy. | And put old stitched-up shoes on their feet, and old clothing on their backs; and all the food they had with them was dry and broken up. | and sandals, old and patched, on their feet, and old garments upon them, and all the bread of their provision is dry it was crumbs. |
| Joshua 9:6 | And they went to Josue, who then abode in the camp at Galgal, and said to him, and to all Israel with him: We are come from a far country, desiring to make peace with you. And the children of Israel answered them, and said: | And they went to Joshua unto the camp at Gilgal, and said unto him, and to the men of Israel, We are come from a far country: now therefore make ye a covenant with us. | And they came to Joshua to the tent-circle at Gilgal, and said to him and to the men of Israel, We have come from a far country: so now make an agreement with us. | And they go unto Joshua, unto the camp at Gilgal, and say unto him, and unto the men of Israel, `From a land far off we have come, and now, make with us a covenant;` |
| Joshua 9:7 | Perhaps you dwell in the land which falls to our lot; if so, we can make no league with you. | And the men of Israel said unto the Hivites, Peradventure ye dwell among us; and how shall we make a covenant with you? | And the men of Israel said to the Hivites, It may be that you are living among us; how then may we make an agreement with you? | and the men of Israel say unto the Hivite, `It may be in our midst ye are dwelling, and how do we make with thee a covenant?` |
| Joshua 9:8 | But they said to Josue: We are thy servants. Josue said to them: Who are you? and whence came you? | And they said unto Joshua, We are thy servants. And Joshua said unto them, Who are ye? and from whence come ye? | And they said to Joshua, We are your servants. Then Joshua said to them, Who are you and where do you come from? | and they say unto Joshua, `Thy servants we [are].` And Joshua saith unto them, `Who [are] ye? and whence come ye?` |
| Joshua 9:9 | They answered: From a very far country thy servants are come in the name of the Lord thy God. For we have heard the fame of his power, all the things that he did in Egypt. | And they said unto him, From a very far country thy servants are come because of the name of Jehovah thy God: for we have heard the fame of him, and all that he did in Egypt, | And they said to him, Your servants have come from a very far country, because of the name of the Lord your God: for the story of his great name, and of all he did in Egypt has come to our ears, | And they say unto him, `From a land very far off have thy servants come, for the name of Jehovah thy God, for we have heard His fame, and all that He hath done in Egypt, |
| Joshua 9:10 | And to the two kings of the Amorrhites that were beyond the Jordan, Sehon king of Hesebon, and Og king of Basan, that was in Astaroth: | and all that he did to the two kings of the Amorites, that were beyond the Jordan, to Sihon king of Heshbon, and to Og king of Bashan, who was at Ashtaroth. | And what he did to the two kings of the Amorites east of Jordan, to Sihon, king of Heshbon, and to Og, king of Bashan, at Ashtaroth. | and all that He hath done to the two kings of the Amorite who [are] beyond the Jordan, to Sihon king of Heshbon, and to Og king of Bashan, who [is] in Ashtaroth. |
| Joshua 9:11 | And our ancients, and all the inhabitants of our country said to us: Take with you victuals for a long way, and go meet them, and say: We are your servants, make ye a league with us. | And our elders and all the inhabitants of our country spake to us, saying, Take provision in your hand for the journey, and go to meet them, and say unto them, We are your servants: and now make ye a covenant with us. | So the responsible men and all the people of our country said to us, Take food with you for the journey and go to them, and say to them, We are your servants: so now make an agreement with us. | `And our elders, and all the inhabitants of our land speak unto us, saying, Take in your hand provision for the way, and go to meet them, and ye have said unto them, Your servants we [are], and now, make with us a covenant; |
| Joshua 9:12 | Behold, these leaves we took hot, when we set out from our houses to come to you, now they are become dry, and broken in pieces, by being exceeding old. | This our bread we took hot for our provision out of our houses on the day we came forth to go unto you; but now, behold, it is dry, and is become mouldy: | This bread which we have with us for our food, we took warm and new from our houses when starting on our journey to you; but now see, it has become dry and broken up. | this our bread hot we provided ourselves with it out of our houses, on the day of our coming out to go unto you, and now, lo, it is dry, and hath been crumbs; |
| Joshua 9:13 | These bottles of wine when we filled them were new, now they are rent and burst. These garments we have on, and the shoes we have on our feet, by reason of the very long journey are worn out, and almost consumed. | and these wine-skins, which we filled, were new; and, behold, they are rent: and these our garments and our shoes are become old by reason of the very long journey. | And these wine-skins were new when we put the wine in them, and now they are cracked as you see; and our clothing and our shoes have become old because of our very long journey here. | and these [are] the wine-bottles which we filled, new, and lo, they have rent; and these, our garments and our sandals, have become old, from the exceeding greatness of the way.` |
| Joshua 9:14 | They took therefore of their victuals, and consulted not the mouth of the Lord. | And the men took of their provision, and asked not counsel at the mouth of Jehovah. | And the men took some of their food, without requesting directions from the Lord. | And the men take of their provision, and the mouth of Jehovah have not asked; |
| Joshua 9:15 | And Josue made peace with them, and entering into a league promised that they should not be slain: the princes also of the multitude swore to them. | And Joshua made peace with them, and made a covenant with them, to let them live: and the princes of the congregation sware unto them. | So Joshua made peace with them, and made an agreement with them that they were not to be put to death: and the chiefs of the people took an oath to them. | and Joshua maketh with them peace, and maketh with them a covenant, to keep them alive; and swear to them do the princes of the company. |
| Joshua 9:16 | Now three days after the league was made, they heard that they dwelt nigh, and they should be among them. | And it came to pass at the end of three days after they had made a covenant with them, that they heard that they were their neighbors, and that they dwelt among them. | Now three days after, when they had made this agreement with them, they had word that these men were their neighbours, living near them. | And it cometh to pass, at the end of three days after that they have made with them a covenant, that they hear that they [are] their neighbours that in their midst they are dwelling. |
| Joshua 9:17 | And the children of Israel removed the camp, and came into their cities on the third day, the names of which are Gabaon, and Caphira, and Beroth, and Cariathiarim. | And the children of Israel journeyed, and came unto their cities on the third day. Now their cities were Gibeon, and Chephirah, and Beeroth, and Kiriath-jearim. | And the children of Israel went forward on their journey, and on the third day came to their towns. Now their towns were Gibeon and Chephirah and Beeroth and Kiriath-jearim. | And the sons of Israel journey and come in unto their cities on the third day and their cities [are] Gibeon, and Chephirah, and Beeroth, and Kirjath-Jearim |
| Joshua 9:18 | And they slew them not, because the princes of the multitude had sworn in the name of the Lord the God of Israel. Then all the common people murmured against the princes. | And the children of Israel smote them not, because the princes of the congregation had sworn unto them by Jehovah, the God of Israel. And all the congregation murmured against the princes. | And the children of Israel did not put them to death, because the chiefs of the people had taken an oath to them by the Lord, the God of Israel. And all the people made an outcry against the chiefs. | and the sons of Israel have not smitten them, for sworn to them have the princes of the company by Jehovah God of Israel, and all the company murmur against the princes. |
| Joshua 9:19 | And they answered them: We have sworn to them in the name of the Lord the God of Israel, and therefore we may not touch them. | But all the princes said unto all the congregation, We have sworn unto them by Jehovah, the God of Israel: now therefore we may not touch them. | But all the chiefs said to the people, We have taken an oath to them by the Lord, the God of Israel, and so we may not put our hands on them. | And all the princes say unto all the company, `We we have sworn to them by Jehovah, God of Israel; and now, we are not able to come against them; |
| Joshua 9:20 | But this we mill do to them: Let their lives be saved, lest the wrath of the Lord be stirred up against us, if we should be forsworn. | This we will do to them, and let them live; lest wrath be upon us, because of the oath which we sware unto them. | This is what we will do to them: we will not put them to death, for fear that wrath may come on us because of our oath to them. | this we do to them, and have kept them alive, and wrath is not upon us, because of the oath which we have sworn to them.` |
| Joshua 9:21 | But so let them live, as to serve the whole multitude in hewing wood, and bringing in water. As they were speaking these things, | And the princes said unto them, Let them live: so they became hewers of wood and drawers of water unto all the congregation, as the princes had spoken unto them. | Keep them living, and let them be servants, cutting wood and getting water for all the people. And all the people did as the chiefs had said to them. | And the princes say unto them, `They live, and are hewers of wood and drawers of water for all the company, as the princes spake to them.` |
| Joshua 9:22 | Josue called the Gabaonites and said to them: Why would you impose upon us, saying: We dwell far off from you, whereas you are in the midst of us? | And Joshua called for them, and he spake unto them, saying, Wherefore have ye beguiled us, saying, We are very far from you; when ye dwell among us? | Then Joshua sent for them, and said to them, Why have you been false to us, saying, We are very far from you, when you are living among us? | And Joshua calleth for them, and speaketh unto them, saying, `Why have ye deceived us, saying, We are very far from you, and ye in our midst dwelling? |
| Joshua 9:23 | Therefore you shall be under a curse, and your race shall always be hewers of wood, and carriers of water unto the house of my God. | Now therefore ye are cursed, and there shall never fail to be of you bondmen, both hewers of wood and drawers of water for the house of my God. | Now because of this you are cursed, and you will for ever be our servants, cutting wood and getting water for the house of my God. | and now, cursed are ye, and none of you is cut off [from being] a servant, even hewers of wood and drawers of water, for the house of my God.` |
| Joshua 9:24 | They answered: It was told us thy servants, that the Lord thy God had promised his servant Moses to give you all the land, and to destroy all the inhabitants thereof. Therefore we feared exceedingly and provided for our lives. compelled by the dread we had of you and we took this counsel. | And they answered Joshua, and said, Because it was certainly told thy servants, how that Jehovah thy God commanded his servant Moses to give you all the land, and to destroy all the inhabitants of the land from before you; therefore we were sore afraid for our lives because of you, and have done this thing. | And, answering Joshua, they said, Because it came to the ears of your servants that the Lord your God had given orders to his servant Moses to give you all this land, and to send destruction on all the people living in it, because of you; so, fearing greatly for our lives because of you, we have done this. | And they answer Joshua and say, `Because it was certainly declared to thy servants, that Jehovah thy God commanded Moses His servant to give to you all the land, and to destroy all the inhabitants of the land from before you; and we fear greatly for ourselves because of you, and we do this thing; |
| Joshua 9:25 | And now we are in thy hand: deal with us as it seemeth good and right unto thee. | And now, behold, we are in thy hand: as it seemeth good and right unto thee to do unto us, do. | And now we are in your hands: do to us whatever seems good and right to you. | and now, lo, we [are] in thy hand, as [it is] good, and as [it is] right in thine eyes to do to us do.` |
| Joshua 9:26 | So Josue did as he had said, and delivered them from the hand of the children of Israel, that they should not be slain. | And so did he unto them, and delivered them out of the hand of the children of Israel, that they slew them not. | So he kept them safe from the children of Israel, and did not let them be put to death. | And he doth to them so, and delivereth them from the hand of the sons of Israel, and they have not slain them; |
| Joshua 9:27 | And he gave orders in that day that they should be in the service of all the people, and of the altar of the Lord, hewing wood and carrying water, until this present time, in the place which the Lord hath chosen. | And Joshua made them that day hewers of wood and drawers of water for the congregation, and for the altar of Jehovah, unto this day, in the place which he should choose. | And that day Joshua made them servants, cutting wood and getting water for the people and for the altar of the Lord, in the place marked out by him, to this day. | and Joshua maketh them on that day hewers of wood and drawers of water for the company, and for the altar of Jehovah, unto this day, at the place which He doth choose. |
