| Psalms 39:1 | Unto the end, a psalm for David himself. | I said, I will take heed to my ways, That I sin not with my tongue: I will keep my mouth with a bridle, While the wicked is before me. | <To the chief music-maker. Of Jeduthun. A Psalm. Of David.> I said, I will give attention to my ways, so that my tongue may do no wrong; I will keep my mouth under control, while the sinner is before me. | To the Overseer, to Jeduthun. A Psalm of David. I have said, `I observe my ways, Against sinning with my tongue, I keep for my mouth a curb, while the wicked [is] before me.` |
| Psalms 39:2 | With expectation I have waited for the Lord, and he was attentive to me. | I was dumb with silence, I held my peace, even from good; And my sorrow was stirred. | I made no sound, I said no word, even of good; and I was moved with sorrow. | I was dumb [with] silence, I kept silent from good, and my pain is excited. |
| Psalms 39:3 | And he heard my prayers, and brought me out of the pit of misery and the mire of dregs. And he set my feet upon a rock, and directed my steps. | My heart was hot within me; While I was musing the fire burned: [Then] spake I with my tongue: | My heart was burning in my breast; while I was deep in thought the fire was lighted; then I said with my tongue, | Hot [is] my heart within me, In my meditating doth the fire burn, I have spoken with my tongue. |

Many shall see, and shall fear : and they shall hope in the Lord. | Jehovah, make me to know mine end, And the measure of my days, what it is; Let me know how frail I am. | Lord, give me knowledge of my end, and of the measure of my days, so that I may see how feeble I am. | `Cause me to know, O Jehovah, mine end, And the measure of my days what it [is],` I know how frail I [am]. |
| Psalms 39:5 | Blessed is the man whose trust is in the name of the Lord; and who hath not had regard to vanities, and lying follies. | Behold, thou hast made my days [as] handbreadths; And my life-time is as nothing before thee: Surely every man at his best estate is altogether vanity. Selah | You have made my days no longer than a hand's measure; and my years are nothing in your eyes; truly, every man is but a breath. (Selah.) | Lo, handbreadths Thou hast made my days, And mine age [is] as nothing before Thee, Only, all vanity [is] every man set up. Selah. |
| Psalms 39:6 | Thou hast multiplied thy wonderful works, O Lord my God : and in thy thoughts there is no one like to thee. I have declared and I have spoken they are multiplied above number. | Surely every man walketh in a vain show; Surely they are disquieted in vain: He heapeth up [riches], and knoweth not who shall gather them. | Truly, every man goes on his way like an image; he is troubled for no purpose: he makes a great store of wealth, and has no knowledge of who will get it. | Only, in an image doth each walk habitually, Only, [in] vain, they are disquieted, He heapeth up and knoweth not who gathereth them. |
| Psalms 39:7 | Sacrifice and oblation thou didst not desire; but thou hast pierced ears for me. Burnt offering and sin offering thou didst not require : | And now, Lord, what wait I for? My hope is in thee. | And now, Lord, what am I waiting for? my hope is in you. | And, now, what have I expected? O Lord, my hope it [is] of Thee. |
| Psalms 39:8 | then said I, Behold I come. In the head of the book it is written of me | Deliver me from all my transgressions: Make me not the reproach of the foolish. | Make me free from all my sins; do not let me be shamed by the man of evil behaviour. | From all my transgressions deliver me, A reproach of the fool make me not. |
| Psalms 39:9 | that I should do thy will : O my God, I have desired it, and thy law in the midst of my heart. | I was dumb, I opened not my mouth; Because thou didst it. | I was quiet, and kept my mouth shut; because you had done it. | I have been dumb, I open not my mouth, Because Thou Thou hast done [it]. |
| Psalms 39:10 | I have declared thy justice in a great church, lo, I will not restrain my lips : O Lord, thou knowest it. | Remove thy stroke away from me: I am consumed by the blow of thy hand. | No longer let your hand be hard on me; I am wasted by the blows of your hand. | Turn aside from off me Thy stroke, From the striving of Thy hand I have been consumed. |
| Psalms 39:11 | I have not hid thy justice within my heart : I have declared thy truth and thy salvation. I have not concealed thy mercy and thy truth from a great council. | When thou with rebukes dost correct man for iniquity, Thou makest his beauty to consume away like a moth: Surely every man is vanity. Selah | By the weight of your wrath against man's sin, the glory of his form is wasted away; truly every man is but a breath. (Selah.) | With reproofs against iniquity, Thou hast corrected man, And dost waste as a moth his desirableness, Only, vanity [is] every man. Selah. |
| Psalms 39:12 | Withhold not thou, O Lord, thy tender mercies from me : thy mercy and thy truth have always upheld me. | Hear my prayer, O Jehovah, and give ear unto my cry; Hold not thy peace at my tears: For I am a stranger with thee, A sojourner, as all my fathers were. | Let my prayer come to your ears, O Lord, and give attention to my cry, make an answer to my weeping: for my time here is short before you, and in a little time I will be gone, like all my fathers. | Hear my prayer, O Jehovah, And [to] my cry give ear, Unto my tear be not silent, For a sojourner I [am] with Thee, A settler like all my fathers. |
| Psalms 39:13 | For evils without number have surrounded me; my iniquities have overtaken me, and I was not able to see.
