Psalms 38:1Unto the end, for Idithun himself, a canticle of David.<A Psalm. Of David. To keep in memory.> O Lord, be not bitter with me in your wrath; let not your hand be on me in the heat of your passion.O LORD, rebuke me not in thy wrath: neither chasten me in thy hot displeasure.{A Psalm of David, to bring to remembrance.} Jehovah, rebuke me not in thy wrath; neither chasten me in thy hot displeasure.
Psalms 38:2I said: I will take heed to my ways : that I sin not with my tongue. I have set guard to my mouth, when the sinner stood against me.For your arrows have gone into my flesh, and I am crushed under the weight of your hand. For thine arrows stick fast in me, and thy hand presseth me sore. For thine arrows stick fast in me, and thy hand cometh down upon me.
Psalms 38:3I was dumb, and was humbled, and kept silence from good things : and my sorrow was renewed. My flesh is wasted because of your wrath; and there is no peace in my bones because of my sin. There is no soundness in my flesh because of thine anger; neither is there any rest in my bones because of my sin. There is no soundness in my flesh because of thine indignation; no peace in my bones, because of my sin.
Psalms 38:4My heart grew hot within me : and in my meditation a fire shall flame out.For my crimes have gone over my head; they are like a great weight which is more than my strength. For mine iniquities are gone over mine head: as an heavy burden they are too heavy for me.For mine iniquities are gone over my head: as a heavy burden they are too heavy for me.
Psalms 38:5I spoke with my tongue : O Lord, make me know my end. And what is the number of my days : that I may know what is wanting to me.My wounds are poisoned and evil-smelling, because of my foolish behaviour. My wounds stink and are corrupt because of my foolishness. My wounds stink, they are corrupt, because of my foolishness.
Psalms 38:6Behold thou hast made my days measurable : and my substance is as nothing before thee. And indeed all things are vanity : every man living.I am troubled, I am made low; I go weeping all the day.I am troubled; I am bowed down greatly; I go mourning all the day long.I am depressed; I am bowed down beyond measure; I go mourning all the day.
Psalms 38:7Surely man passeth as an image : yea, and he is disquieted in vain. He storeth up : and he knoweth not for whom he shall gather these things. For my body is full of burning; all my flesh is unhealthy. For my loins are filled with a loathsome disease: and there is no soundness in my flesh. For my loins are full of burning, and there is no soundness in my flesh.
Psalms 38:8And now what is my hope? is it not the Lord? and my substance is with thee.I am feeble and crushed down; I gave a cry like a lion because of the grief in my heart.I am feeble and sore broken: I have roared by reason of the disquietness of my heart.I am faint and broken beyond measure; I roar by reason of the agitation of my heart.
Psalms 38:9Deliver thou me from all my iniquities : thou hast made me a reproach to the fool.Lord, all my desire is before you; my sorrow is not kept secret from you.Lord, all my desire is before thee; and my groaning is not hid from thee.Lord, all my desire is before thee, and my sighing is not hid from thee.
Psalms 38:10I was dumb, and I opened not my mouth, because thou hast done it.My heart goes out in pain, my strength is wasting away; as for the light of my eyes, it is gone from me.My heart panteth, my strength faileth me: as for the light of mine eyes, it also is gone from me.My heart throbbeth, my strength hath left me; and the light of mine eyes, it also is no more with me.
Psalms 38:11Remove thy scourges from me. The strength of thy hand hath made me faint in rebukes:My lovers and my friends keep away from my disease; my relations keep far away.My lovers and my friends stand aloof from my sore; and my kinsmen stand afar off.My lovers and mine associates stand aloof from my stroke; and my kinsmen stand afar off.
Psalms 38:12thou hast corrected man for iniquity. And thou hast made his soul to waste away like a spider : surely in vain is any man disquieted. Those who have a desire to take my life put nets for me; those who are designing my destruction say evil things against me, all the day their minds are full of deceit. They also that seek after my life lay snares for me: and they that seek my hurt speak mischievous things, and imagine deceits all the day long. And they that seek after my life lay snares [for me]; and they that seek my hurt speak mischievous things, and meditate deceits all the day long.
Psalms 38:13Hear my prayer, O Lord, and my supplication : give ear to my tears. Be not silent : for I am a stranger with thee, and a sojourner as all my fathers were. But I kept my ears shut like a man without hearing; like a man without a voice, never opening his mouth. But I, as a deaf man, heard not; and I was as a dumb man that openeth not his mouth. But I, as a deaf [man], hear not; and am as a dumb man that openeth not his mouth.
Psalms 38:14O forgive me, that I may be refreshed, before I go hence, and be no more.So I was like a man whose ears are shut, and in whose mouth there are no sharp words. Thus I was as a man that heareth not, and in whose mouth are no reproofs.Yea, I am as a man that heareth not, and in whose mouth are no reproofs.
