Psalms 42:1A psalm for David. Judge me, O God, and distinguish my cause from the nation that is not holy : deliver me from the unjust and deceitful man.<To the chief music-maker. Maschil. Of the sons of Korah.> Like the desire of the roe for the water-streams, so is my soul's desire for you, O God.As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God.{To the chief Musician. An instruction; of the sons of Korah.} As the hart panteth after the water-brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God.
Psalms 42:2For thou art God my strength : why hast thou cast me off? and why do I go sorrowful whilst the enemy afflicteth me?My soul is dry for need of God, the living God; when may I come and see the face of God?My soul thirsteth for God, for the living God: when shall I come and appear before God?My soul thirsteth for God, for the living ùGod: when shall I come and appear before God?
Psalms 42:3Send forth thy light and thy truth : they have conducted me, and brought me unto thy holy hill, and into thy tabernacles. My tears have been my food day and night, while they keep saying to me, Where is your God?My tears have been my meat day and night, while they continually say unto me, Where is thy God?My tears have been my bread day and night, while they say unto me all the day, Where is thy God?
Psalms 42:4And I will go in to the altar of God : to God who giveth joy to my youth.Let my soul be overflowing with grief when these things come back to my mind, how I went in company to the house of God, with the voice of joy and praise, with the song of those who were keeping the feast. When I remember these things, I pour out my soul in me: for I had gone with the multitude, I went with them to the house of God, with the voice of joy and praise, with a multitude that kept holyday. These things I remember and have poured out my soul within me: how I passed along with the multitude, how I went on with them to the house of God, with the voice of joy and praise, a festive multitude.
Psalms 42:5To thee, O God my God, I will give praise upon the harp : why art thou sad, O my soul? and why dost thou disquiet me?Why are you crushed down, O my soul? and why are you troubled in me? put your hope in God; for I will again give him praise who is my help and my God.Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted in me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him for the help of his countenance. Why art thou cast down, my soul, and art disquieted in me? hope in God; for I shall yet praise him, [for] the health of his countenance.
Psalms 42:6Hope in God, for I will still give praise to him : the salvation of my countenance, and my God.My soul is crushed down in me, so I will keep you in mind; from the land of Jordan and of the Hermons, from the hill Mizar.O my God, my soul is cast down within me: therefore will I remember thee from the land of Jordan, and of the Hermonites, from the hill Mizar. My God, my soul is cast down within me; therefore do I remember thee from the land of the Jordan, and the Hermons, from mount Mizar.
