Job 21:1Then Job answered, and said:Then Job made answer and said,Then Job answered,And Job answered and said,
Job 21:2Hear, I beseech you, my words, and do penance.Give attention with care to my words; and let this be your comfort."Listen diligently to my speech. Let this be your consolation.Hear attentively my speech, and let this replace your consolations.
Job 21:3Suffer me, and I will speak, and after, if you please, laugh at my words.Let me say what is in my mind, and after that, go on making sport of me.Allow me, and I also will speak; After I have spoken, mock on.Suffer me and I will speak; and after I have spoken, mock on!
Job 21:4Is my debate against man, that I should not have just reason to be troubled?As for me, is my outcry against man? is it then to be wondered at if my spirit is troubled?As for me, is my complaint to man? Why shouldn't I be impatient?As for me, is my complaint to a man? or wherefore should not my spirit be impatient?
Job 21:5Hearken to me and be astonished, and lay your finger on your mouth.Take note of me and be full of wonder, put your hand on your mouth.Look at me, and be astonished. Lay your hand on your mouth.Mark me, and be astonished, and lay the hand upon the mouth.
Job 21:6As for me, when I remember, I am afraid, and trembling taketh hold on my flesh.At the very thought of it my flesh is shaking with fear.When I remember, I am troubled. Horror takes hold of my flesh.Even when I think [thereon], I am affrighted, and trembling taketh hold of my flesh.
Job 21:7Why then do the wicked live, are they advanced, and strengthened with riches?Why is life given to the evil-doers? why do they become old and strong in power?"Why do the wicked live, Become old, yes, and grow mighty in power?Wherefore do the wicked live, grow old, yea, become mighty in power?
Job 21:8Their seed continueth before them, a multitude of kinsmen, and of children's children in their sight.Their children are ever with them, and their offspring before their eyes.Their child is established with them in their sight, Their offspring before their eyes.Their seed is established with them in their sight, and their offspring before their eyes.
Job 21:9Their houses are secure and peaceable, and the rod of God is not upon them.Their houses are free from fear, and the rod of God does not come on them.Their houses are safe from fear, Neither is the rod of God upon them.Their houses are safe from fear, neither is the rod of +God upon them.
Job 21:10Their cattle have conceived, and failed not: their cow has calved, and is not deprived of her fruit.Their ox is ready at all times to give seed; their cow gives birth, without dropping her young.Their bulls breed without fail. Their cows calve, and don't miscarry.Their bull gendereth, and faileth not; their cow calveth, and casteth not her calf.
Job 21:11Their little ones go out like a flock, and their children dance and play.They send out their young ones like a flock, and their children have pleasure in the dance,They send forth their little ones like a flock. Their children dance.They send forth their little ones like a flock, and their children dance.
Job 21:12They take the timbrel, and the harp, and rejoice at the sound of the organ.They make songs to the instruments of music, and are glad at the sound of the pipe.They sing to the tambourine and harp, And rejoice at the sound of the pipe.They shout to the tambour and harp, and rejoice at the sound of the pipe.
Job 21:13They spend their days in wealth, and in a moment they go down to hell.Their days come to an end without trouble, and suddenly they go down to the underworld.They spend their days in prosperity. In an instant they go down to Sheol.They spend their days in prosperity, and in a moment go down to Sheol.
Job 21:14Who have said to God: Depart from us, we desire not the knowledge of thy ways.Though they said to God, Go away from us, for we have no desire for the knowledge of your ways.They tell God, 'Depart from us, For we don't want to know about your ways.And they say unto ùGod, Depart from us, for we desire not the knowledge of thy ways!
Job 21:15Who is the Almighty, that we should serve him? and what doth it profit us if we pray to him?What is the Ruler of all, that we may give him worship? and what profit is it to us to make prayer to him?What is the Almighty, that we should serve him? What profit should we have, if we pray to him?'What is the Almighty that we should serve him? and what are we profited if we pray unto him?
Job 21:16Yet because their good things are not in their hand, may the counsel of the wicked be far from me.Truly, is not their well-being in their power? (The purpose of the evil-doers is far from me.)Behold, their prosperity is not in their hand: The counsel of the wicked is far from me.Behold, their prosperity is not in their hand. The counsel of the wicked be far from me!
Job 21:17How often shall the lamp of the wicked be put out, and a deluge come upon them, and he shall distribute the sorrows of his wrath?How frequently is the light of the evil-doers put out, or does trouble come on them? how frequently does his wrath take them with cords?"How often is it that the lamp of the wicked is put out? That their calamity comes on them? That God distributes sorrows in his anger?How often is the lamp of the wicked put out, and cometh their calamity upon them? Doth he distribute sorrows [to them] in his anger?
Job 21:18They shall be as chaff before the face of the wind, and as ashes which the whirlwind scattereth.How frequently are they as dry stems before the wind, or as grass taken away by the storm-wind?That they are as stubble before the wind, As chaff that the storm carries away?Do they become as stubble before the wind, and as chaff that the storm carrieth away?
Job 21:19God shall lay up the sorrow of the father for his children: and when he shall repay, then shall he know.You say, God keeps punishment stored up for his children. Let him send it on the man himself, so that he may have the punishment of it!You say, 'God lays up his iniquity for his children.' Let him recompense it to himself, that he may know it.+God layeth up [the punishment of] his iniquity for his children; he rewardeth him, and he shall know [it]:
Job 21:20His eyes shall see his own destruction, and he shall drink of the wrath of the Almighty.Let his eyes see his trouble, and let him be full of the wrath of the Ruler of all!Let his own eyes see his destruction. Let him drink of the wrath of the Almighty.His eyes shall see his destruction, and he shall drink of the fury of the Almighty.
Job 21:21For what is it to him what befalleth his house after him: and if the number of his months be diminished by one half?For what interest has he in his house after him, when the number of his months is ended?For what does he care for his house after him, When the number of his months is cut off?For what pleasure should he have in his house after him, when the number of his months is cut off?
Job 21:22Shall any one teach God knowledge, who judgeth those that are high?Is anyone able to give teaching to God? for he is the judge of those who are on high."Shall any teach God knowledge, Seeing he judges those who are high?Can any teach ùGod knowledge? And he it is that judgeth those that are high.
Job 21:23One man dieth strong, and hale, rich and happy.One comes to his end in complete well-being, full of peace and quiet:One dies in his full strength, Being wholly at ease and quiet.One dieth in his full strength, being wholly at ease and quiet;
Job 21:24His bowels are full of fat, and his bones are moistened with marrow.His buckets are full of milk, and there is no loss of strength in his bones.His pails are full of milk. The marrow of his bones is moistened.His sides are full of fat, and the marrow of his bones is moistened;
Job 21:25But another dieth in bitterness of soul without any riches:And another comes to his end with a bitter soul, without ever tasting good.Another dies in bitterness of soul, And never tastes of good.And another dieth in bitterness of soul, and hath not tasted good:
Job 21:26And yet they shall sleep together in the dust, and worms shall cover them.Together they go down to the dust, and are covered by the worm.They lie down alike in the dust, The worm covers them.Together they lie down in the dust, and the worms cover them.
Job 21:27Surely I know your thoughts, and your unjust judgments against me.See, I am conscious of your thoughts, and of your violent purposes against me;"Behold, I know your thoughts, The devices with which you would wrong me.Lo, I know your thoughts, and the devices ye wrongfully imagine against me.
Job 21:28For you say: Where is the house of the prince ? and where are the dwelling places of the wicked?For you say, Where is the house of the ruler, and where is the tent of the evil-doer?For you say, 'Where is the house of the prince? Where is the tent in which the wicked lived?'For ye say, Where is the house of the noble? and where the tent of the dwellings of the wicked?
Job 21:29Ask any one of them that go by the way, and you shall perceive that he knoweth these same things.Have you not put the question to the travellers, and do you not take note of their experience?Haven't you asked wayfaring men? Don't you know their evidences,Have ye not asked the wayfarers? and do ye not regard their tokens:
Job 21:30Because the wicked man is reserved to the day of destruction, and he shall be brought to the day of wrath.How the evil man goes free in the day of trouble, and has salvation in the day of wrath?That the evil man is reserved to the day of calamity? That they are led forth to the day of wrath?That the wicked is reserved for the day of calamity? They are led forth to the day of wrath.
Job 21:31Who shall reprove his way to his face? and who shall repay him what he hath done?Who will make his way clear to his face? and if he has done a thing, who gives him punishment for it?Who shall declare his way to his face? Who shall repay him what he has done?Who shall declare his way to his face? and who shall repay him what he hath done?
Job 21:32He shall be brought to the graves, and shall watch in the heap of the dead.He is taken to his last resting-place, and keeps watch over it.Yet shall he be borne to the grave, Men shall keep watch over the tomb.Yet is he carried to the graves, and watch is kept over the tomb.
Job 21:33He hath been acceptable to the gravel of Cocytus, and he shall draw every man after him, and there are innumerable before him.The earth of the valley covering his bones is sweet to him, and all men come after him, as there were unnumbered before him.The clods of the valley shall be sweet to him. All men shall draw after him, As there were innumerable before him.The clods of the valley are sweet unto him; and every man followeth suit after him, as there were innumerable before him.
Job 21:34How then do ye comfort me in vain, whereas your answer is shewn to be repugnant to truth ?Why then do you give me comfort with words in which there is no profit, when you see that there is nothing in your answers but deceit?So how can you comfort me with nonsense, Seeing that in your answers there remains only falsehood?"How then comfort ye me in vain? Your answers remain perfidious.
