| Job 41:1 | I will not stir him up, like one that is cruel : for who can resist my countenance? | Is it possible for Leviathan to be pulled out with a fish-hook, or for a hook to be put through the bone of his mouth? | "Can you draw out Leviathan with a fishhook? Or press down his tongue with a cord? | Wilt thou draw out the leviathan with the hook, and press down his tongue with a cord? |
| Job 41:2 | Who hath given me before that I should repay him? All things that are under heaven are mine. | Will you put a cord into his nose, or take him away with a cord round his tongue? | Can you put a rope into his nose? Or pierce his jaw through with a hook? | Wilt thou put a rush-rope into his nose, and pierce his jaw with a spike? |
| Job 41:3 | I will not spare him, nor his mighty words, and framed to make supplication. | Will he make prayers to you, or say soft words to you? | Will he make many petitions to you? Or will he speak soft words to you? | Will he make many supplications unto thee? or will he speak softly unto thee? |
| Job 41:4 | Who can discover the face of his garment? or who can go into the midst of his mouth? | Will he make an agreement with you, so that you may take him as a servant for ever? | Will he make a covenant with you, That you should take him for a servant forever? | Will he make a covenant with thee? wilt thou take him as a bondman for ever? |
| Job 41:5 | Who can open the doors of his face? his teeth are terrible round about. | Will you make sport with him, as with a bird? or put him in chains for your young women? | Will you play with him as with a bird? Or will you bind him for your girls? | Wilt thou play with him as with a bird, and wilt thou bind him for thy maidens? |
| Job 41:6 | His body is like molten shields, shut close up with scales pressing upon one another. | Will the fishermen make profit out of him? will they have him cut up for the traders? | Will traders barter for him? Will they part him among the merchants? | Shall partners make traffic of him, will they divide him among merchants? |
| Job 41:7 | One is joined to another, and not so much as any air can come between them : | Will you put sharp-pointed irons into his skin, or fish-spears into his head? | Can you fill his skin with barbed irons, Or his head with fish-spears? | Wilt thou fill his skin with darts, and his head with fish-spears? |
| Job 41:8 | They stick one to another and they hold one another fast, and shall not be separated. | Only put your hand on him, and see what a fight you will have; you will not do it again! | Lay your hand on him. Remember the battle, and do so no more. | Lay thy hand upon him; remember the battle, do no more! |
| Job 41:9 | His sneezing is like the shining of fire, and his eyes like the eyelids of the morning. | Truly, the hope of his attacker is false; he is overcome even on seeing him! | Behold, the hope of him is in vain. Will not one be cast down even at the sight of him? | Lo, hope as to him is belied: is not one cast down even at the sight of him? |
| Job 41:10 | Out of his mouth go forth lamps, like torches of lighted fire. | He is so cruel that no one is ready to go against him. Who then is able to keep his place before me? | None is so fierce that he dare stir him up. Who then is he who can stand before me? | None is so bold as to stir him up; and who is he that will stand before me? |
| Job 41:11 | Out of his nostrils goeth smoke, like that of a pot heated and boiling. | Who ever went against me, and got the better of me? There is no one under heaven! | Who has first given to me, that I should repay him? Everything under the heavens is mine. | Who hath first given to me, that I should repay [him]? [Whatsoever is] under the whole heaven is mine. |
| Job 41:12 | His breath kindleth coals, and a flame cometh forth out of his mouth. | I will not keep quiet about the parts of his body, or about his power, and the strength of his frame. | "I will not keep silence concerning his limbs, Nor his mighty strength, nor his goodly frame. | I will not be silent as to his parts, the story of his power, and the beauty of his structure. |
| Job 41:13 | In his neck strength shall dwell, and want goeth before his face. | Who has ever taken off his outer skin? who may come inside his inner coat of iron? | Who can strip off his outer garment? Who shall come within his jaws? | Who can uncover the surface of his garment? who can come within his double jaws? |
| Job 41:14 | The members of his flesh cleave one to another : he shall send lightnings against him, and they shall not be carried to another place. | Who has made open the doors of his face? Fear is round about his teeth. | Who can open the doors of his face? Around his teeth is terror. | Who can open the doors of his face? Round about his teeth is terror. |
| Job 41:15 | His heart shall be as hard as a stone, and as firm as a smith's anvil. | His back is made of lines of plates, joined tight together, one against the other, like a stamp. | Strong scales are his pride, Shut up together with a close seal. | The rows of his shields are a pride, shut up together [as with] a close seal. |
| Job 41:16 | When he shall raise him up, the angels shall fear, and being affrighted shall purify themselves. | One is so near to the other that no air may come between them. | One is so near to another, That no air can come between them. | One is so near to another that no air can come between them; |
| Job 41:17 | When a sword shall lay at him, it shall not be able to hold, nor a spear, nor a breastplate. | They take a grip of one another; they are joined together, so that they may not be parted. | They are joined one to another; They stick together, so that they can't be pulled apart. | They are joined each to its fellow; they stick together, and cannot be sundered. |
| Job 41:18 | For he shall esteem iron as straw, and brass as rotten wood. | His sneezings give out flames, and his eyes are like the eyes of the dawn. | His sneezing flashes forth light, His eyes are like the eyelids of the morning. | His sneezings flash light, and his eyes are like the eyelids of the morning. |
| Job 41:19 | The archer shall not put him to flight, the stones of the sling are to him like stubble. | Out of his mouth go burning lights, and flames of fire are jumping up. | Out of his mouth go burning torches, Sparks of fire leap forth. | Out of his mouth go forth flames; sparks of fire leap out: |
| Job 41:20 | As stubble will he esteem the hammer, and he will laugh him to scorn who shaketh the spear. | Smoke comes out of his nose, like a pot boiling on the fire. | Out of his nostrils a smoke goes, As of a boiling pot over a fire of reeds. | Out of his nostrils goeth smoke, as out of a boiling pot and cauldron. |
| Job 41:21 | The beams of the sun shall be under him, and he shall strew gold under him like mire. | His breath puts fire to coals, and a flame goes out of his mouth. | His breath kindles coals. A flame goes forth from his mouth. | His breath kindleth coals, and a flame goeth out of his mouth. |
| Job 41:22 | He shall make the deep sea to boil like a pot, and shall make it as when ointments boil. | Strength is in his neck, and fear goes dancing before him. | In his neck there is strength. Terror dances before him. | In his neck lodgeth strength, and terror danceth before him. |
| Job 41:23 | A path shall shine after him, he shall esteem the deep as growing old. | The plates of his flesh are joined together, fixed, and not to be moved. | The flakes of his flesh are joined together. They are firm on him. They can't be moved. | The flakes of his flesh are joined together: they are fused upon him, they cannot be moved. |
| Job 41:24 | There is no power upon earth that can be compared with him who was made to fear no one. | His heart is as strong as a stone, hard as the lower crushing-stone. | His heart is as firm as a stone, Yes, firm as the lower millstone. | His heart is firm as a stone, yea, firm as the nether [millstone]. |
| Job 41:25 | He beholdeth every high thing, he is king over all the children of pride. | When he gets ready for the fight, the strong are overcome with fear. | When he raises himself up, the mighty are afraid. They retreat before his thrashing. | When he raiseth himself up, the mighty are afraid: they are beside themselves with consternation. |
