Isaiah 64:1That thou wouldst rend the heavens, and wouldst come down: the mountains would melt away at thy presence.O let the heavens be broken open and come down, so that the mountains may be shaking before you,Oh that you would tear the heavens, that you would come down, that the mountains might quake at your presence,Oh that thou wouldest rend the heavens, that thou wouldest come down, that the mountains might flow down at thy presence,
Isaiah 64:2They would melt as at the burning of fire, the waters would burn with fire, that thy name might be made known to thy enemies: that the nations might tremble at thy presence. As when fire puts the brushwood in flames, or as when water is boiling from the heat of the fire: to make your name feared by your haters, so that the nations may be shaking before you;as when fire kindles the brushwood, [and] the fire causes the waters to boil; to make your name known to your adversaries, that the nations may tremble at your presence! As when the melting fire burneth, the fire causeth the waters to boil, to make thy name known to thine adversaries, that the nations may tremble at thy presence!
Isaiah 64:3When thou shalt do wonderful things, we shall not bear them: thou didst come down, and at thy presence the mountains melted away. While you do acts of power for which we are not looking, and which have not come to the ears of men in the past. When you did terrible things which we didn't look for, you came down, the mountains quaked at your presence. When thou didst terrible things which we looked not for, thou camest down, the mountains flowed down at thy presence.
Isaiah 64:4From the beginning of the world they have not heard, nor perceived with the ears: the eye hath not seen, O God, besides thee, what things thou hast prepared for them that wait for thee. The ear has not had news of, or the eye seen, ... any God but you, working for the man who is waiting for him.For from of old men have not heard, nor perceived by the ear, neither has the eye seen a God besides you, who works for him who waits for him.For since the beginning of the world men have not heard, nor perceived by the ear, neither hath the eye seen, O God, beside thee, what he hath prepared for him that waiteth for him.
Isaiah 64:5Thou hast met him that rejoiceth, and doth justice: in thy ways they shall remember thee: behold thou art angry, and we have sinned: in them we have been always, and we shall be saved. Will you not have mercy on him who takes pleasure in doing righteousness, even on those who keep in mind your ways? Truly you were angry, and we went on doing evil, and sinning against you in the past. You meet him who rejoices and works righteousness, those who remember you in your ways: behold, you were angry, and we sinned: in them [have we been] of long time; and shall we be saved?Thou meetest him that rejoiceth and worketh righteousness, those that remember thee in thy ways: behold, thou art wroth; for we have sinned: in those is continuance, and we shall be saved.
Isaiah 64:6And we are all become as one unclean, and all our justices as the rag of a menstruous woman: and we have all fallen as a leaf, and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away. For we have all become like an unclean person, and all our good acts are like a dirty robe: and we have all become old like a dead leaf, and our sins, like the wind, take us away. For we are all become as one who is unclean, and all our righteousness are as a polluted garment: and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, take us away. But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.
Isaiah 64:7There is none that calleth upon thy name: that riseth up, and taketh hold of thee: thou hast hid thy face from us, and hast crushed us in the hand of our iniquity. And there is no one who makes prayer to your name, or who is moved to keep true to you: for your face is veiled from us, and you have given us into the power of our sins. There is none who calls on your name, who stirs up himself to take hold of you; for you have hid your face from us, and have consumed us by means of our iniquities. And there is none that calleth upon thy name, that stirreth up himself to take hold of thee: for thou hast hid thy face from us, and hast consumed us, because of our iniquities.
Isaiah 64:8And now, O Lord, thou art our father, and we are clay: and thou art our maker, and we all are the works of thy hands. But now, O Lord, you are our father; we are the earth, and you are our maker; and we are all the work of your hand. But now, Yahweh, you are our Father; we are the clay, and you our potter; and we all are the work of your hand. But now, O LORD, thou art our father; we are the clay, and thou our potter; and we all are the work of thy hand.
Isaiah 64:9Be not very angry, O Lord, and remember no longer our iniquity: behold, see we are all thy people.Be not very angry, O Lord, and do not keep our sins in mind for ever: give ear to our prayer, for we are all your people.Don't be angry very sore, Yahweh, neither remember iniquity forever: see, look, we beg you, we are all your people.Be not wroth very sore, O LORD, neither remember iniquity for ever: behold, see, we beseech thee, we are all thy people.
Isaiah 64:10The city of thy sanctuary is become a desert, Sion is made a desert, Jerusalem is desolate.Your holy towns have become a waste, Zion has become a waste, Jerusalem is a mass of broken walls.Your holy cities are become a wilderness, Zion is become a wilderness, Jerusalem a desolation.Thy holy cities are a wilderness, Zion is a wilderness, Jerusalem a desolation.
Isaiah 64:11The house of our holiness, and of our glory, where our fathers praised thee, is burnt with fire, and all our lovely things are turned into ruins. Our holy and beautiful house, where our fathers gave praise to you, is burned with fire; and all the things of our desire have come to destruction. Our holy and our beautiful house, where our fathers praised you, is burned with fire; and all our pleasant places are laid waste. Our holy and our beautiful house, where our fathers praised thee, is burned up with fire: and all our pleasant things are laid waste.
Isaiah 64:12Wilt thou refrain thyself, O Lord, upon these things, wilt thou hold thy peace, and afflict us vehemently? In view of all this, will you still do nothing, O Lord? will you keep quiet, and go on increasing our punishment? Will you refrain yourself for these things, Yahweh? will you hold your peace, and afflict us very sore?Wilt thou refrain thyself for these things, O LORD? wilt thou hold thy peace, and afflict us very sore?
