1st-Chronicles 5:1Now the sons of Ruben the firstborn of Israel, (for he was his firstborn: but forasmuch as he defiled his father's bed, his first birthright was given to the sons of Joseph the son of Israel, and he was not accounted for the firstborn.And the sons of Reuben, the oldest son of Israel, (for he was the oldest son, but, because he made his father's bride-bed unclean, his birthright was given to the sons of Joseph, the son of Israel; but he is not to be given the place of the oldest.
1st-Chronicles 5:2But of the race of Juda, who was the strongest among his brethren, came the princes: but the first birthright was accounted to Joseph.)Though Judah became stronger than his brothers, and from him came the ruler, the birthright was Joseph's:)
1st-Chronicles 5:3The sons then of Ruben the firstborn of Israel were Enoch, and Phallu, Esron, and Charmi.The sons of Reuben, the oldest son of Israel: Hanoch and Pallu, Hezron and Carmi.
1st-Chronicles 5:4The sons of Joel: Samaia his son, Gog his son, Semei his son,The sons of Joel: Shemaiah his son, Gog his son, Shimei his son,

1st-Chronicles 5:6Beera his son, whom Thelgathphalnasar king of the Assyrians carried away captive, and he was prince in the tribe of Ruben.Beerah his son, whom Tiglath-pileser, king of Assyria, took away as a prisoner: he was chief of the Reubenites.
1st-Chronicles 5:7And his brethren, and all his kindred, when they were numbered by their families, had for princes Jehiel, and Zacharias.And his brothers by their families, when the list of their generations was made up: the chief, Jeiel, and Zechariah,
1st-Chronicles 5:8And Bala the son of Azaz, the son of Samma, the son of Joel, dwelt in Aroer as far as Nebo, and Beelmeon.And Bela, the son of Azaz, the son of Shema, the son of Joel, who was living in Aroer, as far as Nebo and Baal-meon;
1st-Chronicles 5:9And eastward he had his habitation as far as the entrance of the desert, and the river Euphrates. For they possessed a great number of cattle in the land of Galaad.And to the east his limits went as far as the starting point of the waste land, ending at the river Euphrates, because their cattle were increased in number in the land of Gilead.
1st-Chronicles 5:10And in the days of Saul they fought against the Agarites, and slew them, and dwelt in their tents in their stead, in all the country, that looketh to the east of Galaad.And in the days of Saul they made war on the Hagarites, and overcame them; and they put up their tents through all the land east of Gilead.
1st-Chronicles 5:11And the children of Gad dwelt over against them in the land of Basan, as far as Selcha:And the sons of Gad were living opposite to them, in the land of Bashan as far as Salecah:
1st-Chronicles 5:12Johel the chief, and Saphan the second: and Janai, and Saphat in Basan.Joel the chief, and Shapham the second, and Janai and Shaphat in Bashan;
1st-Chronicles 5:13And their brethren according to the houses of their kindreds, were Michael, and Mosollam, and Sebe, and Jorai, and Jacan, and Zie, and Heber, seven.And their brothers, the men of their family: Michael and Meshullam and Sheba and Jorai and Jacan and Zia and Eber, seven of them.
1st-Chronicles 5:14These were the sons of Abihail, the son of Hurl, the son of Jara, the son of Galaad, the son of Michael, the son of Jesisi, the son of Jeddo, the son of But.These were the sons of Abihail, the son of Huri, the son of Jaroah, the son of Gilead, the son of Michael, the son of Jeshishai, the son of Jahdo, the son of Buz;
1st-Chronicles 5:15And their brethren the sons of Abdiel, the son of Guni, chief of the house in their families,Ahi, the son of Abdiel, the son of Guni, head of their families.
1st-Chronicles 5:16And they dwelt in Galaad, and in Basan and in the towns thereof, and in all the suburbs of Saron, unto the borders.And they were living in Gilead in Bashan, in its small towns and in all the grass-land of Sirion as far as its limits.
1st-Chronicles 5:17All these were numbered in the days of Joathan king of Juda, and in the days of Jeroboam king of Israel.All these were listed under the names of their families, in the time of Jotham, king of Judah, and in the time of Jeroboam, king of Israel.
1st-Chronicles 5:18The sons of Ruben, and of Gad, and of the half tribe of Manasses, fighting men, bearing shields, and swords, and bending the bow, and trained up to battles, four and forty thousand seven hundred and threescore that went out to war.There were forty-four thousand, seven hundred and sixty of the sons of Reuben and of the Gadites and of the half-tribe of Manasseh, all strong men, expert in the use of the body-cover, the sword, and the bow, and in the art of war, all able to take up arms.
1st-Chronicles 5:19They fought against the Agarites: but the Itureans, and Naphis, and Nodab,And they went to war against the Hagarites, with Jetur and Naphish and Nodab.
1st-Chronicles 5:20Gave them help. And the Agarites were delivered into their hands, and all that were with them, because they called upon God in the battle: and he heard them, because they had put their faith in him.And they were helped against them, so that the Hagarites, and those with them, were given into their power. For they sent up prayers to God in the fight, and he gave ear to them, because they put their faith in him.
1st-Chronicles 5:21And they took all that they possessed, of camels fifty thousand, and of sheep two hundred and fifty thousand, and of asses two thousand, and of men a hundred thousand souls.And they took away their cattle: fifty thousand camels, two hundred and fifty thousand sheep, and two thousand asses, and a hundred thousand men.
1st-Chronicles 5:22And many fell down slain : for it was the battle of the Lord. And they dwelt in their stead till the captivity.And a very great number went to their death, because the war was God's purpose. And they went on living in their place till they were taken away as prisoners.
1st-Chronicles 5:23And the children of the half tribe of Manasses possessed the land, from the borders of Basan unto Baal, Hermon, and Sanir, and mount Hermon, for their number was great.And the men of the half-tribe of Manasseh were living in the land: and their numbers were increased till all the land from Bashan to Baal-hermon and Senir and the mountain Hermon was theirs.
1st-Chronicles 5:24And these were the heads of the house of their kindred, Epher, and Jesi, and Eliel, and Esriel, and Jeremia, and Odoia, and Jediel, most valiant and powerful men, and famous chiefs in their families.And these were the heads of their families: Epher and Ishi and Eliel and Azriel and Jeremiah and Hodaviah and Jahdiel, men of war, of great name, heads of families.
1st-Chronicles 5:25But they forsook the God of their fathers, and went astray after the gods of the people of the land, whom God destroyed before them.And they did evil against the God of their fathers, worshipping the gods of the people of the land, whom God had put to destruction before them.
1st-Chronicles 5:26And the God of Israel stirred up the spirit of Phul king of the Assyrians, and the spirit of Thelgathphalnasar king of Assur: and he carried away Ruben, and Gad, and the half tribe of Manasses, and brought them to Lahela, and to Habor, and to Ara, and to the river of Gozan, unto this day.And the God of Israel put an impulse into the heart of Pul, king of Assyria, and of Tiglath-pileser, king of Assyria, who took them away as prisoners, all the Reubenites and the Gadites and the half-tribe of Manasseh, to Halah and Habor and Hara and to the river of Gozan, to this day.
