Psalms 74:1Unto the end, corrupt not, a psalm of a canticle for Asaph.{An instruction: of Asaph.} Why, O God, hast thou cast off for ever? [why] doth thine anger smoke against the sheep of thy pasture?God, why have you rejected us forever? Why does your anger smolder against the sheep of your pasture?Maschil of Asaph. O God, why hast thou cast us off for ever? why doth thy anger smoke against the sheep of thy pasture?
Psalms 74:2We will praise thee, O God: we will praise, and we will call upon thy name. We will relate thy wondrous works:Remember thine assembly, which thou hast purchased of old, which thou hast redeemed [to be] the portion of thine inheritance, this mount Zion, wherein thou hast dwelt.Remember your congregation, which you purchased of old, Which you have redeemed to be the tribe of your inheritance; Mount Zion, in which you have lived.Remember thy congregation, which thou hast purchased of old: the rod of thy inheritance, which thou hast redeemed; this mount Zion, in which thou hast dwelt.
Psalms 74:3when I shall take a time, I will judge justices.Lift up thy steps unto the perpetual desolations: everything in the sanctuary hath the enemy destroyed.Lift up your feet to the perpetual ruins, All the evil that the enemy has done in the sanctuary.Lift up thy feet to the perpetual desolations; even all that the enemy hath done wickedly in the sanctuary.
Psalms 74:4The earth is melted, and all that dwell therein: I have established the pillars thereof.Thine adversaries roar in the midst of thy place of assembly; they set up their signs [for] signs.Your adversaries have roared in the midst of your assembly. They have set up their standards as signs.Thy enemies roar in the midst of thy congregations; they set up their ensigns for signs.
Psalms 74:5I said to the wicked: Do not act wickedly: and to the sinners: Lift not up the horn.[A man] was known as he could lift up axes in the thicket of trees; They behaved like men wielding axes, Cutting through a thicket of trees.A man was famous according as he had lifted up axes upon the thick trees.
Psalms 74:6Lift not up your horn on high: speak not iniquity against God.And now they break down its carved work altogether, with hatchets and hammers. Now all its carved work They break down with hatchet and hammers. But now they break down the carved work of it at once with axes and hammers.
Psalms 74:7For neither from the east, nor from the west, nor from the desert hills:They have set on fire thy sanctuary, they have profaned the habitation of thy name to the ground. They have burned your sanctuary to the ground. They have profaned the dwelling-place of your Name. They have cast fire into thy sanctuary, they have defiled by casting down the dwelling-place of thy name to the ground.
Psalms 74:8for God is the judge. One he putteth down, and another he lifteth up:They said in their heart, Let us destroy them together: they have burned up all ùGod's places of assembly in the land. They said in their heart, "We will crush them completely." They have burned up all the places in the land where God was worshipped. They said in their hearts, Let us destroy them together: they have burned up all the synagogues of God in the land.
Psalms 74:9for in the hand of the Lord there is a cup of strong wine full of mixture. And he hath poured it out from this to that: but the dregs thereof are not emptied: all the sinners of the earth shall drink. We see not our signs; there is no more any prophet, neither is there among us any that knoweth how long.We see no miraculous signs. There is no longer any prophet, Neither is there among us anyone who knows how long.We see not our signs: there is no more any prophet: neither is there among us any that knoweth how long.
Psalms 74:10But I will declare for ever: I will sing to the God of Jacob. How long, O God, shall the adversary reproach? Shall the enemy contemn thy name for ever? How long, God, shall the adversary reproach? Shall the enemy blaspheme your name forever?O God, how long shall the adversary reproach? shall the enemy blaspheme thy name for ever?
Psalms 74:11And I will break all the horns of sinners: but the horns of the just shall be exalted. Why withdrawest thou thy hand, and thy right hand? [pluck it] out of thy bosom: consume [them].Why do you draw back your hand, even your right hand? Take it out of your pocket and consume them! Why withdrawest thou thy hand, even thy right hand? pluck it out of thy bosom.
