| Psalms 38:1 | Unto the end, for Idithun himself, a canticle of David. | O LORD, rebuke me not in thy wrath: neither chasten me in thy hot displeasure. | <A Psalm. Of David. To keep in memory.> O Lord, be not bitter with me in your wrath; let not your hand be on me in the heat of your passion. | Yahweh, don't rebuke me in your wrath, Neither chasten me in your hot displeasure. |
| Psalms 38:2 | I said: I will take heed to my ways : that I sin not with my tongue. I have set guard to my mouth, when the sinner stood against me. | For thine arrows stick fast in me, and thy hand presseth me sore. | For your arrows have gone into my flesh, and I am crushed under the weight of your hand. | For your arrows have pierced me, Your hand presses hard on me. |
| Psalms 38:3 | I was dumb, and was humbled, and kept silence from good things : and my sorrow was renewed. | There is no soundness in my flesh because of thine anger; neither is there any rest in my bones because of my sin. | My flesh is wasted because of your wrath; and there is no peace in my bones because of my sin. | There is no soundness in my flesh because of your indignation, Neither is there any health in my bones because of my sin. |
| Psalms 38:4 | My heart grew hot within me : and in my meditation a fire shall flame out. | For mine iniquities are gone over mine head: as an heavy burden they are too heavy for me. | For my crimes have gone over my head; they are like a great weight which is more than my strength. | For my iniquities have gone over my head. As a heavy burden, they are too heavy for me. |
| Psalms 38:5 | I spoke with my tongue : O Lord, make me know my end. And what is the number of my days : that I may know what is wanting to me. | My wounds stink and are corrupt because of my foolishness. | My wounds are poisoned and evil-smelling, because of my foolish behaviour. | My wounds are loathsome and corrupt, Because of my foolishness. |
| Psalms 38:6 | Behold thou hast made my days measurable : and my substance is as nothing before thee. And indeed all things are vanity : every man living. | I am troubled; I am bowed down greatly; I go mourning all the day long. | I am troubled, I am made low; I go weeping all the day. | I am pained and bowed down greatly. I go mourning all the day long. |
| Psalms 38:7 | Surely man passeth as an image : yea, and he is disquieted in vain. He storeth up : and he knoweth not for whom he shall gather these things. | For my loins are filled with a loathsome disease: and there is no soundness in my flesh. | For my body is full of burning; all my flesh is unhealthy. | For my loins are filled with burning. There is no soundness in my flesh. |
| Psalms 38:8 | And now what is my hope? is it not the Lord? and my substance is with thee. | I am feeble and sore broken: I have roared by reason of the disquietness of my heart. | I am feeble and crushed down; I gave a cry like a lion because of the grief in my heart. | I am faint and severely bruised. I have groaned by reason of the anguish of my heart. |
| Psalms 38:9 | Deliver thou me from all my iniquities : thou hast made me a reproach to the fool. | Lord, all my desire is before thee; and my groaning is not hid from thee. | Lord, all my desire is before you; my sorrow is not kept secret from you. | Lord, all my desire is before you. My groaning is not hidden from you. |
| Psalms 38:10 | I was dumb, and I opened not my mouth, because thou hast done it. | My heart panteth, my strength faileth me: as for the light of mine eyes, it also is gone from me. | My heart goes out in pain, my strength is wasting away; as for the light of my eyes, it is gone from me. | My heart throbs. My strength fails me. As for the light of my eyes, it also is gone from me. |
| Psalms 38:11 | Remove thy scourges from me. The strength of thy hand hath made me faint in rebukes: | My lovers and my friends stand aloof from my sore; and my kinsmen stand afar off. | My lovers and my friends keep away from my disease; my relations keep far away. | My lovers and my friends stand aloof from my plague. My kinsmen stand afar off. |
| Psalms 38:12 | thou hast corrected man for iniquity. And thou hast made his soul to waste away like a spider : surely in vain is any man disquieted. | They also that seek after my life lay snares for me: and they that seek my hurt speak mischievous things, and imagine deceits all the day long. | Those who have a desire to take my life put nets for me; those who are designing my destruction say evil things against me, all the day their minds are full of deceit. | They also who seek after my life lay snares. Those who seek my hurt speak mischievous things, And meditate deceits all day long. |
| Psalms 38:13 | Hear my prayer, O Lord, and my supplication : give ear to my tears. Be not silent : for I am a stranger with thee, and a sojourner as all my fathers were. | But I, as a deaf man, heard not; and I was as a dumb man that openeth not his mouth. | But I kept my ears shut like a man without hearing; like a man without a voice, never opening his mouth. | But I, as a deaf man, don't hear. I am as a mute man who doesn't open his mouth. |
| Psalms 38:14 | O forgive me, that I may be refreshed, before I go hence, and be no more. | Thus I was as a man that heareth not, and in whose mouth are no reproofs. | So I was like a man whose ears are shut, and in whose mouth there are no sharp words. | Yes, I am as a man who doesn't hear, In whose mouth are no reproofs. |
