Psalms 88:1Of understanding, for Ethan the Ezrahite.O LORD God of my salvation, I have cried day and night before thee:<A Song. A Psalm. Of the sons of Korah. To the chief music-maker; put to Mahalath Leannoth. Maschil. Of Heman the Ezrahite.> O Lord, God of my salvation, I have been crying to you for help by day and by night:Yahweh, the God of my salvation, I have cried day and night before you.
Psalms 88:2The mercies of the Lord I will sing for ever. I will shew forth thy truth with my mouth to generation and generation.Let my prayer come before thee: incline thine ear unto my cry;Let my prayer come before you; give ear to my cry:Let my prayer enter into your presence. Turn your ear to my cry.
Psalms 88:3For thou hast said: Mercy shall be built up for ever in the heavens: thy truth shall be prepared in them.For my soul is full of troubles: and my life draweth nigh unto the grave.For my soul is full of evils, and my life has come near to the underworld.For my soul is full of troubles. My life draws near to Sheol.
Psalms 88:4I have made a covenant with my elect: I have sworn to David my servant:I am counted with them that go down into the pit: I am as a man that hath no strength:I am numbered among those who go down into the earth; I have become like a man for whom there is no help:I am counted among those who go down into the pit. I am like a man who has no help,
Psalms 88:5Thy seed will I settle for ever. And I will build up thy throne unto generation and generation.Free among the dead, like the slain that lie in the grave, whom thou rememberest no more: and they are cut off from thy hand.My soul is among the dead, like those in the underworld, to whom you give no more thought; for they are cut off from your care.Set apart among the dead, Like the slain who lie in the grave, Whom you remember no more. They are cut off from your hand.
Psalms 88:6The heavens shall confess thy wonders, O Lord: and thy truth in the church of the saints.Thou hast laid me in the lowest pit, in darkness, in the deeps.You have put me in the lowest deep, even in dark places.You have laid me in the lowest pit, In the darkest depths.
Psalms 88:7For who in the clouds can be compared to the Lord: or who among the sons of God shall be like to God?Thy wrath lieth hard upon me, and thou hast afflicted me with all thy waves. Selah.The weight of your wrath is crushing me, all your waves have overcome me. (Selah.)Your wrath lies heavily on me. You have afflicted me with all your waves. Selah.
Psalms 88:8God, who is glorified in the assembly of the saints: great and terrible above all them that are about him.Thou hast put away mine acquaintance far from me; thou hast made me an abomination unto them: I am shut up, and I cannot come forth.You have sent my friends far away from me; you have made me a disgusting thing in their eyes: I am shut up, and not able to come out.You have taken my friends from me. You have made me an abomination to them. I am confined, and I can't escape.
Psalms 88:9O Lord God of hosts, who is like to thee? thou art mighty, O Lord, and thy truth is round about thee.Mine eye mourneth by reason of affliction: LORD, I have called daily upon thee, I have stretched out my hands unto thee.My eyes are wasting away because of my trouble: Lord, my cry has gone up to you every day, my hands are stretched out to you.My eyes are dim from grief. I have called on you daily, Yahweh. I have spread out my hands to you.
Psalms 88:10Thou rulest the power of the sea: and appeasest the motion of the waves thereof.Wilt thou shew wonders to the dead? shall the dead arise and praise thee? Selah.Will you do works of wonder for the dead? will the shades come back to give you praise? (Selah.)Do you show wonders to the dead? Do the dead rise up and praise you? Selah.
Psalms 88:11Thou hast humbled the proud one, as one that is slain: with the arm of thy strength thou hast scattered thy enemies.Shall thy lovingkindness be declared in the grave? or thy faithfulness in destruction?Will the story of your mercy be given in the house of the dead? will news of your faith come to the place of destruction?Is your lovingkindness declared in the grave? Or your faithfulness in Destruction?
Psalms 88:12Thine are the heavens, and thine is the earth: the world and the fulness thereof thou hast founded:Shall thy wonders be known in the dark? and thy righteousness in the land of forgetfulness? May there be knowledge of your wonders in the dark? or of your righteousness where memory is dead?Are your wonders made known in the dark? Or your righteousness in the land of forgetfulness?
Psalms 88:13the north and the sea thou hast created. Thabor and Hermon shall rejoice in thy name:But unto thee have I cried, O LORD; and in the morning shall my prayer prevent thee.But to you did I send up my cry, O Lord; in the morning my prayer came before you.But to you, Yahweh, I have cried. In the morning, my prayer comes before you.
Psalms 88:14thy arm is with might. Let thy hand be strengthened, and thy right hand exalted:LORD, why castest thou off my soul? why hidest thou thy face from me?Lord, why have you sent away my soul? why is your face covered from me?Yahweh, why do you reject my soul? Why do you hide your face from me?
Psalms 88:15justice and judgment are the preparation of thy throne. Mercy and truth shall go before thy face:I am afflicted and ready to die from my youth up: while I suffer thy terrors I am distracted.I have been troubled and in fear of death from the time when I was young; your wrath is hard on me, and I have no strength.I am afflicted and ready to die from my youth up. Psalms 88:16blessed is the people that knoweth jubilation. They shall walk, O Lord, in the light of thy countenance:Thy fierce wrath goeth over me; thy terrors have cut me off.The heat of your wrath has gone over me; I am broken by your cruel punishments.Your fierce wrath has gone over me. Your terrors have cut me off.
Psalms 88:17and in thy name they shall rejoice all the day, and in thy justice they shall be exalted.They came round about me daily like water; they compassed me about together.They are round me all the day like water; they have made a circle about me.They came around me like water all day long. They completely engulfed me.
Psalms 88:18For thou art the glory of their strength: and in thy good pleasure shall our horn be exalted.Lover and friend hast thou put far from me, and mine acquaintance into darkness. You have sent my friends and lovers far from me; I am gone from the memory of those who are dear to me.You have put lover and friend far from me, And my friends into darkness. Psalms 88:19For our protection is of the Lord, and of our king the holy one of Israel.
Psalms 88:20Then thou spokest in a vision to thy saints, and saidst: I have laid help upon one that is mighty, and have exalted one chosen out of my people.
Psalms 88:21I have found David my servant: with my holy oil I have anointed him.
Psalms 88:22For my hand shall help him: and my arm shall strengthen him.
Psalms 88:23The enemy shall have no advantage over him: nor the son of iniquity have power to hurt him.
Psalms 88:24And I will cut down his enemies before his face; and them that hate him I will put to flight.
Psalms 88:25And my truth and my mercy shall be with him: and in my name shall his horn be exalted.
Psalms 88:26And I will set his hand in the sea; and his right hand in the rivers.
Psalms 88:27He shall cry out to me: Thou art my father: my God, and the support of my salvation.
Psalms 88:28And I will make him my firstborn, high above the kings of the earth.
Psalms 88:29I will keep my mercy for him for ever: and my covenant faithful to him.
Psalms 88:30And I will make his seed to endure for evermore: and his throne as the days of heaven.
Psalms 88:31And if his children forsake my law, and walk not in my judgments:
Psalms 88:32If they profane my justices: and keep not my commandments:
Psalms 88:33I will visit their iniquities with a rod: and their sins with stripes.
Psalms 88:34But my mercy I will not take away from him: nor will I suffer my truth to fail.
Psalms 88:35Neither will I profane my covenant: and the words that proceed from my mouth I will not make void.
Psalms 88:36Once have I sworn by my holiness: I will not lie unto David:
Psalms 88:37his seed shall endure for ever.
Psalms 88:38And his throne as the sun before me: and as the moon perfect for ever, and a faithful witness in heaven.
Psalms 88:39But thou hast rejected and despised: thou hast been angry with thy anointed.
Psalms 88:40Thou hast overthrown the covenant of thy servant: thou hast profaned his sanctuary on the earth.
Psalms 88:41Thou hast broken down all his hedges: thou hast made his strength fear.
Psalms 88:42All that pass by the way have robbed him: he is become a reproach to his neighbours.
Psalms 88:43Thou hast set up the right hand of them that oppress him: thou hast made all his enemies to rejoice.
Psalms 88:44Thou hast turned away the help of his sword; and hast not assisted him in battle.
Psalms 88:45Thou hast made his purification to cease: and thou hast cast his throne down to the ground.
Psalms 88:46Thou hast shortened the days of his time: thou hast covered him with confusion.
Psalms 88:47How long, O Lord, turnest thou away unto the end? shall thy anger burn like fire?
Psalms 88:48Remember what my substance is for hast thou made all the children of men in vain?
Psalms 88:49Who is the man that shall live, and not see death: that shall deliver his soul from the hand of hell?
Psalms 88:50Lord, where are thy ancient mercies, according to what thou didst swear to David in thy truth?
Psalms 88:51Be mindful, O Lord, of the reproach of thy servants (which I have held in my bosom) of many nations:
Psalms 88:52Wherewith thy enemies have reproached, O Lord; wherewith they have reproached the change of thy anointed.
Psalms 88:53Blessed be the Lord for evermore. So be it. So be it.
