Lamentations 5:1Remember, O LORD, what is come upon us: consider, and behold our reproach.Remember, O Jehovah, what is come upon us: Behold, and see our reproach. Keep in mind, O Lord, what has come to us: take note and see our shame.Remember, O Jehovah, what hath befallen us, Look attentively, and see our reproach.
Lamentations 5:2Our inheritance is turned to strangers, our houses to aliens. Our inheritance is turned unto strangers, Our houses unto aliens. Our heritage is given up to men of strange lands, our houses to those who are not our countrymen. Our inheritance hath been turned to strangers, Our houses to foreigners.
Lamentations 5:3We are orphans and fatherless, our mothers are as widows. We are orphans and fatherless; Our mothers are as widows. We are children without fathers, our mothers are like widows.Orphans we have been without a father, our mothers [are] as widows.
Lamentations 5:4We have drunken our water for money; our wood is sold unto us. We have drunken our water for money; Our wood is sold unto us. We give money for a drink of water, we get our wood for a price. Our water for money we have drunk, Our wood for a price doth come.
Lamentations 5:5Our necks are under persecution: we labour, and have no rest. Our pursuers are upon our necks: We are weary, and have no rest. Our attackers are on our necks: overcome with weariness, we have no rest. For our neck we have been pursued, We have laboured there hath been no rest for us.
Lamentations 5:6We have given the hand to the Egyptians, and to the Assyrians, to be satisfied with bread. We have given the hand to the Egyptians, And to the Assyrians, to be satisfied with bread. We have given our hands to the Egyptians and to the Assyrians so that we might have enough bread.[To] Egypt we have given a hand, [To] Asshur, to be satisfied with bread.
Lamentations 5:7Our fathers have sinned, and are not; and we have borne their iniquities. Our fathers sinned, and are not; And we have borne their iniquities. Our fathers were sinners and are dead; and the weight of their evil-doing is on us.Our fathers have sinned they are not, We their iniquities have borne.
Lamentations 5:8Servants have ruled over us: there is none that doth deliver us out of their hand.Servants rule over us: There is none to deliver us out of their hand. Servants are ruling over us, and there is no one to make us free from their hands.Servants have ruled over us, A deliverer there is none from their hand.
Lamentations 5:9We gat our bread with the peril of our lives because of the sword of the wilderness. We get our bread at the peril of our lives, Because of the sword of the wilderness. We put our lives in danger to get our bread, because of the sword of the waste land. With our lives we bring in our bread, Because of the sword of the wilderness.
Lamentations 5:10Our skin was black like an oven because of the terrible famine. Our skin is black like an oven, Because of the burning heat of famine. Our skin is heated like an oven because of our burning heat from need of food. Our skin as an oven hath been burning, Because of the raging of the famine.
Lamentations 5:11They ravished the women in Zion, and the maids in the cities of Judah. They ravished the women in Zion, The virgins in the cities of Judah. They took by force the women in Zion, the virgins in the towns of Judah.Wives in Zion they have humbled, Virgins in cities of Judah.
Lamentations 5:12Princes are hanged up by their hand: the faces of elders were not honoured.Princes were hanged up by their hand: The faces of elders were not honored. Their hands put princes to death by hanging: the faces of old men were not honoured.Princes by their hand have been hanged, The faces of elders have not been honoured.
Lamentations 5:13They took the young men to grind, and the children fell under the wood. The young men bare the mill; And the children stumbled under the wood. The young men were crushing the grain, and the boys were falling under the wood.Young men to grind they have taken, And youths with wood have stumbled.
Lamentations 5:14The elders have ceased from the gate, the young men from their musick. The elders have ceased from the gate, The young men from their music. The old men are no longer seated in the doorway, and the music of the young men has come to an end.The aged from the gate have ceased, Young men from their song.
Lamentations 5:15The joy of our heart is ceased; our dance is turned into mourning. The joy of our heart is ceased; Our dance is turned into mourning. The joy of our hearts is ended; our dancing is changed into sorrow.Ceased hath the joy of our heart, Turned to mourning hath been our dancing.
Lamentations 5:16The crown is fallen from our head: woe unto us, that we have sinned! The crown is fallen from our head: Woe unto us! for we have sinned. The crown has been taken from our head: sorrow is ours, for we are sinners.Fallen hath the crown [from] our head, Wo [is] now to us, for we have sinned.
Lamentations 5:17For this our heart is faint; for these things our eyes are dim.For this our heart is faint; For these things our eyes are dim; Because of this our hearts are feeble; for these things our eyes are dark; For this hath our heart been sick, For these have our eyes been dim.
Lamentations 5:18Because of the mountain of Zion, which is desolate, the foxes walk upon it.For the mountain of Zion, which is desolate: The foxes walk upon it. Because of the mountain of Zion which is a waste; jackals go over it.For the mount of Zion that is desolate, Foxes have gone up on it.
Lamentations 5:19Thou, O LORD, remainest for ever; thy throne from generation to generation.Thou, O Jehovah, abidest for ever; Thy throne is from generation to generation. You, O Lord, are seated as King for ever; the seat of your power is eternal.Thou, O Jehovah, to the age remainest, Thy throne to generation and generation.
Lamentations 5:20Wherefore dost thou forget us for ever, and forsake us so long time?Wherefore dost thou forget us for ever, [And] forsake us so long time? Why have we gone from your memory for ever? why have you been turned away from us for so long? Why for ever dost Thou forget us? Thou forsakest us for length of days!
Lamentations 5:21Turn thou us unto thee, O LORD, and we shall be turned; renew our days as of old.Turn thou us unto thee, O Jehovah, and we shall be turned; Renew our days as of old. Make us come back to you, O Lord, and let us be turned; make our days new again as in the past.Turn us back, O Jehovah, unto Thee, And we turn back, renew our days as of old.
Lamentations 5:22But thou hast utterly rejected us; thou art very wroth against us.But thou hast utterly rejected us; Thou art very wroth against us. But you have quite given us up; you are full of wrath against us.For hast Thou utterly rejected us? Thou hast been wroth against us exceedingly?
