Psalms 49:1Hear this, all ye people; give ear, all ye inhabitants of the world:Hear this, all ye peoples; Give ear, all ye inhabitants of the world, A psalm for Asaph. The God of gods, the Lord hath spoken: and he hath called the earth. From the rising of the sun, to the going down thereof:To the Overseer. By sons of Korah. A Psalm. Hear this, all ye peoples, Give ear, all ye inhabitants of the world.
Psalms 49:2Both low and high, rich and poor, together. Both low and high, Rich and poor together. out of Sion the loveliness of his beauty. Both low and high, together rich and needy.
Psalms 49:3My mouth shall speak of wisdom; and the meditation of my heart shall be of understanding. My mouth shall speak wisdom; And the meditation of my heart shall be of understanding. God shall come manifestly: our God shall come, and shall not keep silence. A fire shall burn before him: and a mighty tempest shall be round about him.My mouth speaketh wise things, And the meditations of my heart [are] things of understanding.
Psalms 49:4I will incline mine ear to a parable: I will open my dark saying upon the harp.I will incline mine ear to a parable: I will open my dark saying upon the harp. He shall call heaven from above, and the earth, to judge his people.I incline to a simile mine ear, I open with a harp my riddle:
Psalms 49:5Wherefore should I fear in the days of evil, when the iniquity of my heels shall compass me about?Wherefore should I fear in the days of evil, When iniquity at my heels compasseth me about? Gather ye together his saints to him: who set his covenant before sacrifices. Why do I fear in days of evil? The iniquity of my supplanters doth compass me.
Psalms 49:6They that trust in their wealth, and boast themselves in the multitude of their riches; They that trust in their wealth, And boast themselves in the multitude of their riches; And the heavens shall declare his justice: for God is judge. Those trusting on their wealth, And in the multitude of their riches, Do shew themselves foolish.
Psalms 49:7None of them can by any means redeem his brother, nor give to God a ransom for him:None [of them] can by any means redeem his brother, Nor give to God a ransom for him; Hear, O my people, and I will speak: O Israel, and I will testify to thee: I am God, thy God.A brother doth no one at all ransom, He doth not give to God his atonement.
Psalms 49:8(For the redemption of their soul is precious, and it ceaseth for ever:) (For the redemption of their life is costly, And it faileth for ever;) I will not reprove thee for thy sacrifices: and thy burnt offerings are always in my sight. And precious [is] the redemption of their soul, And it hath ceased to the age.
Psalms 49:9That he should still live for ever, and not see corruption. That he should still live alway, That he should not see corruption. I will not take calves out of thy house: nor he goats out of thy flocks. And still he liveth for ever, He seeth not the pit.
Psalms 49:10For he seeth that wise men die, likewise the fool and the brutish person perish, and leave their wealth to others. For he shall see it. Wise men die; The fool and the brutish alike perish, And leave their wealth to others. For all the beasts of the woods are mine: the cattle on the hills, and the oxen. For he seeth wise men die, Together the foolish and brutish perish, And have left to others their wealth.
Psalms 49:11Their inward thought is, that their houses shall continue for ever, and their dwelling places to all generations; they call their lands after their own names.Their inward thought is, [that] their houses [shall continue] for ever, [And] their dwelling-places to all generations; They call their lands after their own names. I know all the fowls of the air: and with me is the beauty of the field.Their heart [is]: Their houses [are] to the age, Their tabernacles to all generations. They proclaimed their names over the lands.
Psalms 49:12Nevertheless man being in honour abideth not: he is like the beasts that perish. But man [being] in honor abideth not: He is like the beasts that perish. If I should be hungry, I would not tell thee: for the world is mine, and the fulness thereof. And man in honour doth not remain, He hath been like the beasts, they have been cut off.
Psalms 49:13This their way is their folly: yet their posterity approve their sayings. Selah. This their way is their folly: Yet after them men approve their sayings. Selah Shall I eat the flesh of bullocks? or shall I drink the blood of goats? This their way [is] folly for them, And their posterity with their sayings are pleased. Selah.
Psalms 49:14Like sheep they are laid in the grave; death shall feed on them; and the upright shall have dominion over them in the morning; and their beauty shall consume in the grave from their dwelling. They are appointed as a flock for Sheol; Death shall be their shepherd; And the upright shall have dominion over them in the morning; And their beauty shall be for Sheol to consume, That there be no habitation for it. Offer to God the sacrifice of praise: and pay thy vows to the most High.As sheep for Sheol they have set themselves, Death doth afflict them, And the upright rule over them in the morning, And their form [is] for consumption. Sheol [is] a dwelling for him.
Psalms 49:15But God will redeem my soul from the power of the grave: for he shall receive me. Selah. But God will redeem my soul from the power of Sheol; For he will receive me. Selah And call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me.Only, God doth ransom my soul from the hand of Sheol, For He doth receive me. Selah.
Psalms 49:16Be not thou afraid when one is made rich, when the glory of his house is increased;Be not thou afraid when one is made rich, When the glory of his house is increased. But to the sinner God hath said: Why dost thou declare my justices, and take my covenant in thy mouth ?Fear not, when one maketh wealth, When the honour of his house is abundant,
Psalms 49:17For when he dieth he shall carry nothing away: his glory shall not descend after him.For when he dieth he shall carry nothing away; His glory shall not descend after him. Seeing thou hast hated discipline: and hast cast my words behind thee. For at his death he receiveth nothing, His honour goeth not down after him.
Psalms 49:18Though while he lived he blessed his soul: and men will praise thee, when thou doest well to thyself.Though while he lived he blessed his soul (And men praise thee, when thou doest well to thyself,) If thou didst see a thief thou didst run with him: and with adulterers thou hast been a partaker. For his soul in his life he blesseth, (And they praise thee when thou dost well for thyself.)
Psalms 49:19He shall go to the generation of his fathers; they shall never see light. He shall go to the generation of his fathers; They shall never see the light. Thy mouth hath abounded with evil, and thy tongue framed deceits. It cometh to the generation of his fathers, For ever they see not the light.
Psalms 49:20Man that is in honour, and understandeth not, is like the beasts that perish.Man that is in honor, and understandeth not, Is like the beasts that perish. Psalm 50 A Psalm of Asaph. Sitting thou didst speak against thy brother, and didst lay a scandal against thy mother's son:Man in honour, who understandest not, Hath been like the beasts, they have been cut off!
