| Job 16:1 | Then Job answered and said, | And Job answered and said, | Then Job answered, and said: | And Job made answer and said, |
| Job 16:2 | I have heard many such things: miserable comforters are ye all. | I have heard many such things: grievous comforters are ye all. | I have often heard such things as these: you are all troublesome comforters. | Such things have frequently come to my ears: you are comforters who only give trouble. |
| Job 16:3 | Shall vain words have an end? or what emboldeneth thee that thou answerest? | Shall words of wind have an end? or what provoketh thee that thou answerest? | Shall windy words have no end? or is it any trouble to thee to speak? | May words which are like the wind be stopped? or what is troubling you to make answer to them? |
| Job 16:4 | I also could speak as ye do: if your soul were in my soul's stead, I could heap up words against you, and shake mine head at you. | I also could speak as ye: if your soul were in my soul's stead, I could join together words against you, and shake my head at you; | I also could speak like you: and would God your soul were for my soul. | It would not be hard for me to say such things if your souls were in my soul's place; joining words together against you, and shaking my head at you: |
| Job 16:5 | But I would strengthen you with my mouth, and the moving of my lips should asswage your grief. | [But] I would encourage you with my mouth, and the solace of my lips should assuage [your pain]. | I would comfort you also with words, and would wag my head over you. | I might give you strength with my mouth, and not keep back the comfort of my lips. |
| Job 16:6 | Though I speak, my grief is not asswaged: and though I forbear, what am I eased? | If I speak, my pain is not assuaged; and if I forbear, what am I eased? | I would strengthen you with my mouth, and would move my lips, as sparing you. | If I say what is in my mind, my pain becomes no less: and if I keep quiet, how much of it goes from me? |
| Job 16:7 | But now he hath made me weary: thou hast made desolate all my company. | But now he hath made me weary; ... thou hast made desolate all my family; | But what shall I do? If I speak, my pain will not rest: and if I hold my peace, it will not depart from me. | But now he has overcome me with weariness and fear, and I am in the grip of all my trouble. |
| Job 16:8 | And thou hast filled me with wrinkles, which is a witness against me: and my leanness rising up in me beareth witness to my face. | Thou hast shrivelled me up! it is become a witness; and my leanness riseth up against me, it beareth witness to my face. | But now my sorrow hath oppressed me, and all my limbs are brought to nothing. | It has come up as a witness against me, and the wasting of my flesh makes answer to my face. |

| Job 16:10 | They have gaped upon me with their mouth; they have smitten me upon the cheek reproachfully; they have gathered themselves together against me. | They gape upon me with their mouth; they smite my cheeks reproachfully; they range themselves together against me. | He hath gathered together his fury against me, and threatening me he hath gnashed with his teeth upon me: my enemy hath beheld me with terrible eyes. | Their mouths are open wide against me; the blows of his bitter words are falling on my face; all of them come together in a mass against me. |
