1st-Timothy 5:1Rebuke not an elder, but intreat him as a father; and the younger men as brethren;Rebuke not an elder sharply, but exhort [him] as a father, younger [men] as brethren,An ancient man rebuke not, but entreat him as a father: young men, as brethren:Never administer a sharp reprimand to a man older than yourself; but entreat him as if he were your father, and the younger men as brothers;
1st-Timothy 5:2The elder women as mothers; the younger as sisters, with all purity.elder women as mothers, younger women as sisters, with all purity.Old women, as mothers: young women, as sisters, in all chastity.the elder women too as mothers, and the younger women as sisters, with perfect modesty.
1st-Timothy 5:3Honour widows that are widows indeed.Honour widows who are really widows;Honour widows, that are widows indeed.Honour widows who are really in need.
1st-Timothy 5:4But if any widow have children or nephews, let them learn first to shew piety at home, and to requite their parents: for that is good and acceptable before God.but if any widow have children or descendants, let them learn first to be pious as regards their own house, and to render a return on their side to [their] parents; for this is acceptable in the sight of God.But if any widow have children, or grandchildren, let her learn first to govern her own house, and to make a return of duty to her parents: for this is acceptable before God.But if a widow has children or grandchildren, let these learn first to show piety towards their own homes and to prove their gratitude to their parents; for this is well pleasing in the sight of God.
1st-Timothy 5:5Now she that is a widow indeed, and desolate, trusteth in God, and continueth in supplications and prayers night and day.Now she who [is] a widow indeed, and is left alone, has put [her] hope in God, and continues in supplications and prayers night and day.But she that is a widow indeed, and desolate, let her trust in God, and continue in supplications and prayers night and day.A widow who is really in need, friendless and desolate, has her hopes fixed on God, and continues at her supplications and prayers, night and day;
1st-Timothy 5:6But she that liveth in pleasure is dead while she liveth.But she that lives in habits of self-indulgence is dead [while] living.For she that liveth in pleasures, is dead while she is living.but a pleasure-loving widow is dead even while still alive.
1st-Timothy 5:7And these things give in charge, that they may be blameless.And these things enjoin, that they may be irreproachable.And this give in charge, that they may be blameless.Press these facts upon them, so that they may live lives free from reproach.
1st-Timothy 5:8But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel.But if any one does not provide for his own, and specially for those of [his] house, he has denied the faith, and is worse than the unbeliever.But if any man have not care of his own, and especially of those of his house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel.But if a man makes no provision for those dependent on him, and especially for his own family, he has disowned the faith and is behaving worse than an unbeliever.
1st-Timothy 5:9Let not a widow be taken into the number under threescore years old, having been the wife of one man,Let a widow be put upon the list, being of not less than sixty years, [having been] wife of one man,Let a widow be chosen of no less than threescore years of age, who hath been the wife of one husband.No widow is to be put on the roll who is under sixty years of age.
1st-Timothy 5:10Well reported of for good works; if she have brought up children, if she have lodged strangers, if she have washed the saints' feet, if she have relieved the afflicted, if she have diligently followed every good work.borne witness to in good works, if she have brought up children, if she have exercised hospitality, if she have washed saints' feet, if she have imparted relief to the distressed, if she have diligently followed every good work.Having testimony for her good works, if she have brought up children, if she have received to harbour, if she have washed the saints' feet, if she have ministered to them that suffer tribulation, if she have diligently followed every good work.She must have been true to her one husband, and well reported of for good deeds, as having brought up children, received strangers hospitably, washed the feet of God's people, given relief to the distressed, and devoted herself to good works of every kind.
1st-Timothy 5:11But the younger widows refuse: for when they have begun to wax wanton against Christ, they will marry;But younger widows decline; for when they grow wanton against Christ, they desire to marry,But the younger widows avoid. For when they have grown wanton in Christ, they will marry:But the younger widows you must not enrol; for as soon as they begin to chafe against the yoke of Christ, they want to marry,
1st-Timothy 5:12Having damnation, because they have cast off their first faith.being guilty, because they have cast off their first faith.Having damnation, because they have made void their first faith.and they incur disapproval for having broken their original vow.
1st-Timothy 5:13And withal they learn to be idle, wandering about from house to house; and not only idle, but tattlers also and busybodies, speaking things which they ought not.And, at the same time, they learn also [to be] idle, going about to people's houses; and not only idle, but also gossipers and meddlers, speaking things not becoming.And withal being idle they learn to go about from house to house: and are not only idle, but tattlers also, and busybodies, speaking things which they ought not.And at the same time they also learn to be idle as they go round from house to house; and they are not only idle, but are gossips also and busybodies, speaking of things that ought not to be spoken of.
1st-Timothy 5:14I will therefore that the younger women marry, bear children, guide the house, give none occasion to the adversary to speak reproachfully.I will therefore that the younger marry, bear children, rule the house, give no occasion to the adversary in respect of reproach.I will therefore that the younger should marry, bear children, be mistresses of families, give no occasion to the adversary to speak evil.I would therefore have the younger women marry, bear children, rule in domestic matters, and furnish the Adversary with no excuse for slander.
1st-Timothy 5:15For some are already turned aside after Satan.For already some have turned aside after Satan.For some are already turned aside after Satan.For already some of them have gone astray, following Satan.
1st-Timothy 5:16If any man or woman that believeth have widows, let them relieve them, and let not the church be charged; that it may relieve them that are widows indeed.If any believing man or woman have widows, let them impart relief to them, and let not the assembly be charged, that it may impart relief to those [that are] widows indeed.If any of the faithful have widows, let him minister to them, and let not the church be charged: that there may be sufficient for them that are widows indeed.If a believing woman has widows dependent on her, she should relieve their wants, and save the Church from being burdened so that the Church may relieve the widows who are really in need.
1st-Timothy 5:17Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honour, especially they who labour in the word and doctrine.Let the elders who take the lead [among the saints] well be esteemed worthy of double honour, specially those labouring in word and teaching;Let the priests that rule well, be esteemed worthy of double honour: especially they who labour in the word and doctrine:Let the Elders who perform their duties wisely and well be held worthy of double honour, especially those who labour in preaching and teaching.
1st-Timothy 5:18For the scripture saith, Thou shalt not muzzle the ox that treadeth out the corn. And, The labourer is worthy of his reward.for the scripture says, Thou shalt not muzzle an ox that treadeth out corn, and, The workman [is] worthy of his hire.For the scripture saith: Thou shalt not muzzle the ox that treadeth out the corn: and, The labourer is worthy of his reward.For the Scripture says, "You are not to muzzle the ox while it is treading out the grain;" and the workman deserves his pay.
1st-Timothy 5:19Against an elder receive not an accusation, but before two or three witnesses.Against an elder receive not an accusation unless where there are two or three witnesses.Against a priest receive not an accusation, but under two or three witnesses.Never entertain an accusation against an Elder except on the evidence of two of three witnesses.
1st-Timothy 5:20Them that sin rebuke before all, that others also may fear.Those that sin convict before all, that the rest also may have fear.Them that sin reprove before all: that the rest also may have fear.Those who persist in sin reprove in the presence of all, so that it may also be a warning to the rest.
1st-Timothy 5:21I charge thee before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, and the elect angels, that thou observe these things without preferring one before another, doing nothing by partiality.I testify before God and Christ Jesus and the elect angels, that thou keep these things without prejudice, doing nothing by favour.I charge thee before God, and Christ Jesus, and the elect angels, that thou observe these things without prejudice, doing nothing by declining to either side.I solemnly call upon you, in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus and of the elect angels, to carry out these instructions of mine without prejudice, and to do nothing from partiality.
1st-Timothy 5:22Lay hands suddenly on no man, neither be partaker of other men's sins: keep thyself pure.Lay hands quickly on no man, nor partake in others' sins. Keep thyself pure.Impose not hands lightly upon any man, neither be partaker of other men's sins. Keep thyself chaste.Do not ordain any one hastily; and do not be a partaker in the sins of others; keep *yourself* pure.
1st-Timothy 5:23Drink no longer water, but use a little wine for thy stomach's sake and thine often infirmities.Drink no longer only water, but use a little wine on account of thy stomach and thy frequent illnesses.Do not still drink water, but use a little wine for thy stomach's sake, and thy frequent infirmities.(No longer be a water-drinker; but take a little wine for the sake of your digestion and your frequent ailments.)
1st-Timothy 5:24Some men's sins are open beforehand, going before to judgment; and some men they follow after.Of some men the sins are manifest beforehand, going before to judgment, and some also they follow after.Some men's sins are manifest, going before to judgment: and some men they follow after.The sins of some men are evident to the world, leading the way to your estimate of their characters, but the sins of others lag behind.
1st-Timothy 5:25Likewise also the good works of some are manifest beforehand; and they that are otherwise cannot be hid.In like manner good works also are manifest beforehand, and those that are otherwise cannot be hid.In like manner also good deeds are manifest: and they that are otherwise, cannot be hid.So also the right actions of some are evident to the world, and those that are not cannot remain for ever out of sight.
