| Psalms 52:1 | Why boastest thou thyself in mischief, O mighty man? the goodness of God endureth continually. | {To the chief Musician: an instruction. Of David; when Doeg the Edomite came and told Saul, and said unto him, David came to the house of Ahimelech.} Why boastest thou thyself in evil, thou mighty man? The loving-kindness of ùGod [abideth] continually. | Unto the end, for Maeleth, understandings to David. The fool said in his hear t: There is no God. | Why do you boast of mischief, mighty man? God's lovingkindness endures continually. |
| Psalms 52:2 | Thy tongue deviseth mischiefs; like a sharp razor, working deceitfully. | Thy tongue deviseth mischievous things, like a sharp razor, practising deceit. | They are corrupted, and become abominable in iniquities: there is none that doth good. | Your tongue plots destruction, Like a sharp razor, working deceitfully. |
| Psalms 52:3 | Thou lovest evil more than good; and lying rather than to speak righteousness. Selah. | Thou hast loved evil rather than good, lying rather than to speak righteousness. Selah. | God looked down from heaven on the children of men: to see if there were any that did understand, or did seek God. | You love evil more than good, Lying rather than speaking the truth. Selah. |
| Psalms 52:4 | Thou lovest all devouring words, O thou deceitful tongue. | Thou hast loved all devouring words, O deceitful tongue! | All have gone aside, they are become unprofitable together, there is none that doth good, no not one. | You love all devouring words, You deceitful tongue. |
| Psalms 52:5 | God shall likewise destroy thee for ever, he shall take thee away, and pluck thee out of thy dwelling place, and root thee out of the land of the living. Selah. | ùGod shall likewise destroy thee for ever; he shall take thee away, and pluck thee out of [thy] tent, and root thee out of the land of the living. Selah. | Shall not all the workers of iniquity know, who eat up my people as they eat bread? | God will likewise destroy you forever. He will take you up, and pluck you out of your tent, And root you out of the land of the living. Selah. |
| Psalms 52:6 | The righteous also shall see, and fear, and shall laugh at him: | The righteous also shall see, and fear, and shall laugh at him, [saying,] | They have not called upon God: there have they trembled for fear, where there was no fear. For God hath scattered the bones of them that please men: they have been confounded, because God hath despised them. | The righteous also will see it, and fear, And laugh at him, saying, |
| Psalms 52:7 | Lo, this is the man that made not God his strength; but trusted in the abundance of his riches, and strengthened himself in his wickedness. | Behold the man that made not God his strength, but put confidence in the abundance of his riches, [and] strengthened himself in his avarice. | Who will give out of Sion the salvation of Israel? when God shall bring back the captivity of his people, Jacob shall rejoice, and Israel shall be glad. | "Behold, this is the man who didn't make God his strength, But trusted in the abundance of his riches, And strengthened himself in his wickedness." |
| Psalms 52:8 | But I am like a green olive tree in the house of God: I trust in the mercy of God for ever and ever. | But as for me, I am like a green olive-tree in the house of God: I will confide in the loving-kindness of God for ever and ever. | | But as for me, I am like a green olive tree in God's house. I trust in God's lovingkindness forever and ever. |
| Psalms 52:9 | I will praise thee for ever, because thou hast done it: and I will wait on thy name; for it is good before thy saints. | I will praise thee for ever, because thou hast done [it]; and I will wait on thy name, before thy godly ones, for it is good. | | I will give you thanks forever, because you have done it. I will hope in your name, for it is good, In the presence of your saints. Psalm 53 For the Chief Musician. To the tune of "Mahalath." A contemplation by David. |
