Proverbs 1:1The proverbs of Solomon the son of David, king of Israel;Proverbs of Solomon, son of David, king of Israel:
Proverbs 1:2To know wisdom and instruction; to perceive the words of understanding; to know wisdom and instruction; to discern the words of understanding;
Proverbs 1:3To receive the instruction of wisdom, justice, and judgment, and equity;to receive the instruction of wisdom, righteousness and judgment, and equity;
Proverbs 1:4To give subtilty to the simple, to the young man knowledge and discretion. to give prudence to the simple, to the young man knowledge and discretion.
Proverbs 1:5A wise man will hear, and will increase learning; and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels: He that is wise will hear, and will increase learning; and the intelligent will gain wise counsels:
Proverbs 1:6To understand a proverb, and the interpretation; the words of the wise, and their dark sayings.to understand a proverb and an allegory, the words of the wise and their enigmas.
Proverbs 1:7The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.The fear of Jehovah is the beginning of knowledge: fools despise wisdom and instruction.
Proverbs 1:8My son, hear the instruction of thy father, and forsake not the law of thy mother:Hear, my son, the instruction of thy father, and forsake not the teaching of thy mother;
Proverbs 1:9For they shall be an ornament of grace unto thy head, and chains about thy neck.for they shall be a garland of grace unto thy head, and chains about thy neck.
Proverbs 1:10My son, if sinners entice thee, consent thou not.My son, if sinners entice thee, consent not.
Proverbs 1:11If they say, Come with us, let us lay wait for blood, let us lurk privily for the innocent without cause:If they say, Come with us, let us lay wait for blood, let us lurk secretly for the innocent without cause;
Proverbs 1:12Let us swallow them up alive as the grave; and whole, as those that go down into the pit:let us swallow them up alive as Sheol, and whole, as those that go down into the pit;
Proverbs 1:13We shall find all precious substance, we shall fill our houses with spoil:we shall find all precious substance, we shall fill our houses with spoil:
Proverbs 1:14Cast in thy lot among us; let us all have one purse:cast in thy lot among us; we will all have one purse:
Proverbs 1:15My son, walk not thou in the way with them; refrain thy foot from their path:my son, walk not in the way with them, keep back thy foot from their path;
Proverbs 1:16For their feet run to evil, and make haste to shed blood.for their feet run to evil, and they make haste to shed blood.
Proverbs 1:17Surely in vain the net is spread in the sight of any bird.For in vain the net is spread in the sight of anything which hath wings.
Proverbs 1:18And they lay wait for their own blood; they lurk privily for their own lives.And these lay wait for their own blood; they lurk secretly for their own lives.
Proverbs 1:19So are the ways of every one that is greedy of gain; which taketh away the life of the owners thereof.So are the paths of every one that is greedy of gain: it taketh away the life of its possessors.
Proverbs 1:20Wisdom crieth without; she uttereth her voice in the streets:Wisdom crieth without; she raiseth her voice in the broadways;
Proverbs 1:21She crieth in the chief place of concourse, in the openings of the gates: in the city she uttereth her words, saying,she calleth in the chief [place] of concourse, in the entry of the gates; in the city she uttereth her words:
Proverbs 1:22How long, ye simple ones, will ye love simplicity? and the scorners delight in their scorning, and fools hate knowledge?How long, simple ones, will ye love simpleness, and scorners take pleasure in their scorning, and the foolish hate knowledge?
Proverbs 1:23Turn you at my reproof: behold, I will pour out my spirit unto you, I will make known my words unto you.Turn you at my reproof: behold, I will pour forth my spirit unto you, I will make known to you my words.
Proverbs 1:24Because I have called, and ye refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no man regarded;Because I have called, and ye refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no one regarded;
Proverbs 1:25But ye have set at nought all my counsel, and would none of my reproof: and ye have rejected all my counsel, and would none of my reproof:
Proverbs 1:26I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your fear cometh;I also will laugh in your calamity, I will mock when your fear cometh;
Proverbs 1:27When your fear cometh as desolation, and your destruction cometh as a whirlwind; when distress and anguish cometh upon you. when your fear cometh as sudden destruction, and your calamity cometh as a whirlwind; when distress and anguish come upon you:
Proverbs 1:28Then shall they call upon me, but I will not answer; they shall seek me early, but they shall not find me: then will they call upon me, but I will not answer; they will seek me early, and shall not find me.
Proverbs 1:29For that they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of the LORD:Because they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of Jehovah;
Proverbs 1:30They would none of my counsel: they despised all my reproof.they would none of my counsel, they despised all my reproof:
Proverbs 1:31Therefore shall they eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own devices.therefore shall they eat of the fruit of their way, and be filled with their own devices.
Proverbs 1:32For the turning away of the simple shall slay them, and the prosperity of fools shall destroy them.For the turning away of the simple shall slay them, and the prosperity of the foolish shall cause them to perish.
Proverbs 1:33But whoso hearkeneth unto me shall dwell safely, and shall be quiet from fear of evil.But whoso hearkeneth unto me shall dwell safely, and shall be at rest from fear of evil.
