| Psalms 42:1 | As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God. | A psalm for David. Judge me, O God, and distinguish my cause from the nation that is not holy : deliver me from the unjust and deceitful man. | As the deer pants for the water brooks, So pants my soul after you, God. | To the Overseer. An Instruction. By sons of Korah. As a hart doth pant for streams of water, So my soul panteth toward Thee, O God. |
| Psalms 42:2 | My soul thirsteth for God, for the living God: when shall I come and appear before God? | For thou art God my strength : why hast thou cast me off? and why do I go sorrowful whilst the enemy afflicteth me? | My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and appear before God? | My soul thirsted for God, for the living God, When do I enter and see the face of God? |
| Psalms 42:3 | My tears have been my meat day and night, while they continually say unto me, Where is thy God? | Send forth thy light and thy truth : they have conducted me, and brought me unto thy holy hill, and into thy tabernacles. | My tears have been my food day and night, While they continually ask me, "Where is your God?" | My tear hath been to me bread day and night, In their saying unto me all the day, `Where [is] thy God?` |
| Psalms 42:4 | When I remember these things, I pour out my soul in me: for I had gone with the multitude, I went with them to the house of God, with the voice of joy and praise, with a multitude that kept holyday. | And I will go in to the altar of God : to God who giveth joy to my youth. | These things I remember, and pour out my soul within me, How I used to go with the crowd, and led them to the house of God, With the voice of joy and praise, a multitude keeping a holy day. | These I remember, and pour out my soul in me, For I pass over into the booth, I go softly with them unto the house of God, With the voice of singing and confession, The multitude keeping feast! |
| Psalms 42:5 | Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted in me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him for the help of his countenance. | To thee, O God my God, I will give praise upon the harp : why art thou sad, O my soul? and why dost thou disquiet me? | Why are you in despair, my soul? Why are you disturbed within me? Hope in God! For I shall still praise him for the saving help of his presence. | What! bowest thou thyself, O my soul? Yea, art thou troubled within me? Wait for God, for still I confess Him: The salvation of my countenance My God! |
| Psalms 42:6 | O my God, my soul is cast down within me: therefore will I remember thee from the land of Jordan, and of the Hermonites, from the hill Mizar. | Hope in God, for I will still give praise to him : the salvation of my countenance, and my God. | My God, my soul is in despair within me. Therefore I remember you from the land of the Jordan, The heights of Hermon, from the hill Mizar. | In me doth my soul bow itself, Therefore I remember Thee from the land of Jordan, And of the Hermons, from the hill Mizar. |
| Psalms 42:7 | Deep calleth unto deep at the noise of thy waterspouts: all thy waves and thy billows are gone over me. | | Deep calls to deep at the noise of your waterfalls. All your waves and your billows have swept over me. | Deep unto deep is calling At the noise of Thy water-spouts, All Thy breakers and Thy billows passed over me. |
| Psalms 42:8 | Yet the LORD will command his lovingkindness in the daytime, and in the night his song shall be with me, and my prayer unto the God of my life. | | Yahweh will command his lovingkindness in the daytime. In the night his song shall be with me: A prayer to the God of my life. | By day Jehovah commandeth His kindness, And by night a song [is] with me, A prayer to the God of my life. |
| Psalms 42:9 | I will say unto God my rock, Why hast thou forgotten me? why go I mourning because of the oppression of the enemy? | | I will ask God, my rock, "Why have you forgotten me? Why do I go mourning because of the oppression of the enemy?" | I say to God my rock, `Why hast Thou forgotten me? Why go I mourning in the oppression of an enemy? |
| Psalms 42:10 | As with a sword in my bones, mine enemies reproach me; while they say daily unto me, Where is thy God? | | As with a sword in my bones, my adversaries reproach me, While they continually ask me, "Where is your God?" | With a sword in my bones Have mine adversaries reproached me, In their saying unto me all the day, `Where [is] thy God?` |
| Psalms 42:11 | Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God. | | Why are you in despair, my soul? Why are you disturbed within me? Hope in God! For I shall still praise him, The saving help of my countenance, and my God. Psalm 43 | What! bowest thou thyself, O my soul? And what! art thou troubled within me? Wait for God, for still I confess Him, The salvation of my countenance, and my God! |
