Psalms 51:1Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions.Have mercy on me, God, according to your lovingkindness. According to the multitude of your tender mercies, blot out my transgressions.<To the chief music-maker. A Psalm. Of David. When Nathan the prophet came to him, after he had gone in to Bath-sheba.> Have pity on me, O God, in your mercy; out of a full heart, take away my sin.Unto the end, understanding for David,
Psalms 51:2Wash me throughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin.Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity. Cleanse me from my sin.Let all my wrongdoing be washed away, and make me clean from evil.when Doeg the Edomite came and told Saul David went to the house of Achimelech
Psalms 51:3For I acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin is ever before me.For I know my transgressions. My sin is constantly before me.For I am conscious of my error; my sin is ever before me.Why dost thou glory in malice, thou that art mighty in iniquity?
Psalms 51:4Against thee, thee only, have I sinned, and done this evil in thy sight: that thou mightest be justified when thou speakest, and be clear when thou judgest. Against you, and you only, have I sinned, And done that which is evil in your sight; That you may be proved right when you speak, And justified when you judge.Against you, you only, have I done wrong, working that which is evil in your eyes; so that your words may be seen to be right, and you may be clear when you are judging. All the day long thy tongue hath devised injustice: as a sharp razor, thou hast wrought deceit.
Psalms 51:5Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me.Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity. In sin did my mother conceive me.Truly, I was formed in evil, and in sin did my mother give me birth.Thou hast loved malice more than goodness: and iniquity rather than to speak righteousness.
Psalms 51:6Behold, thou desirest truth in the inward parts: and in the hidden part thou shalt make me to know wisdom. Behold, you desire truth in the inward parts. You teach me wisdom in the inmost place.Your desire is for what is true in the inner parts: in the secrets of my soul you will give me knowledge of wisdom.Thou hast loved all the words of ruin, O deceitful tongue.
Psalms 51:7Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow. Purify me with hyssop, and I will be clean. Wash me, and I will be whiter than snow.Make me free from sin with hyssop: let me be washed whiter than snow. Therefore will God destroy thee for ever: he will pluck thee out, and remove thee from thy dwelling place: and thy root out of the land of the living.
Psalms 51:8Make me to hear joy and gladness; that the bones which thou hast broken may rejoice.Let me hear joy and gladness, That the bones which you have broken may rejoice.Make me full of joy and rapture; so that the bones which have been broken may be glad. The just shall see and fear, and shall laugh at him, and say:
Psalms 51:9Hide thy face from my sins, and blot out all mine iniquities.Hide your face from my sins, And blot out all of my iniquities.Let your face be turned from my wrongdoing, and take away all my sins.Behold the man that made not God his helper: But trusted in the abundance of his riches: and prevailed in his vanity.
Psalms 51:10Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.Create in me a clean heart, God. Renew a right spirit within me.Make a clean heart in me, O God; give me a right spirit again. But I, as a fruitful olive tree in the house of God, have hoped in the mercy of God for ever, yea for ever and ever.
Psalms 51:11Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me.Don't throw me away from your presence. Don't take your holy Spirit from me.Do not put me away from before you, or take your holy spirit from me.I will praise thee for ever, because thou hast done it: and I will wait on thy name, for it is good in the sight of thy saints.
Psalms 51:12Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit.Restore to me the joy of your salvation. Uphold me with a willing spirit.Give me back the joy of your salvation; let a free spirit be my support.
Psalms 51:13Then will I teach transgressors thy ways; and sinners shall be converted unto thee. Then I will teach transgressors your ways. Sinners shall be converted to you. Then will I make your ways clear to wrongdoers; and sinners will be turned to you.
Psalms 51:14Deliver me from bloodguiltiness, O God, thou God of my salvation: and my tongue shall sing aloud of thy righteousness.Deliver me from bloodguiltiness, God, you God of my salvation. My tongue shall sing aloud of your righteousness.Be my saviour from violent death, O God, the God of my salvation; and my tongue will give praise to your righteousness.
Psalms 51:15O Lord, open thou my lips; and my mouth shall shew forth thy praise.Lord, open my lips. My mouth shall declare your praise.O Lord, let my lips be open, so that my mouth may make clear your praise.
Psalms 51:16For thou desirest not sacrifice; else would I give it: thou delightest not in burnt offering. For you don't delight in sacrifice, or else I would give it. You have no pleasure in burnt offering. You have no desire for an offering or I would give it; you have no delight in burned offerings.
Psalms 51:17The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise. The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit. A broken and contrite heart, God, you will not despise. The offerings of God are a broken spirit; a broken and sorrowing heart, O God, you will not put from you.
Psalms 51:18Do good in thy good pleasure unto Zion: build thou the walls of Jerusalem.Do well in your good pleasure to Zion. Build the walls of Jerusalem.Do good to Zion in your good pleasure, building up the walls of Jerusalem.
Psalms 51:19Then shalt thou be pleased with the sacrifices of righteousness, with burnt offering and whole burnt offering: then shall they offer bullocks upon thine altar. Then will you delight in the sacrifices of righteousness, In burnt offerings and in whole burnt offerings. Then they will offer bulls on your altar. Psalm 52 For the Chief Musician. A contemplation by David, when Doeg the Edomite came and told Saul, "David has come to Abimelech's house."Then you will have delight in the offerings of righteousness, in burned offerings and offerings of beasts; then they will make offerings of oxen on your altar.
