Psalms 39:1I said, I will take heed to my ways, that I sin not with my tongue: I will keep my mouth with a bridle, while the wicked is before me.I said, "I will watch my ways, so that I don't sin with my tongue. I will keep my mouth with a bridle while the wicked is before me."Unto the end, a psalm for David himself. To the chief Musician, even to Jeduthun, A Psalm of David. I said, I will take heed to my ways, that I sin not with my tongue: I will keep my mouth with a bridle, while the wicked is before me.
Psalms 39:2I was dumb with silence, I held my peace, even from good; and my sorrow was stirred.I was mute with silence. I held my peace, even from good. My sorrow was stirred. With expectation I have waited for the Lord, and he was attentive to me.I was dumb with silence, I held my peace, even from good; and my sorrow was stirred.
Psalms 39:3My heart was hot within me, while I was musing the fire burned: then spake I with my tongue,My heart was hot within me. While I meditated, the fire burned: I spoke with my tongue:And he heard my prayers, and brought me out of the pit of misery and the mire of dregs. And he set my feet upon a rock, and directed my steps. My heart was hot within me, while I was musing the fire burned: then I spoke with my tongue.
Psalms 39:4LORD, make me to know mine end, and the measure of my days, what it is; that I may know how frail I am."Yahweh, make me to know my end, What is the measure of my days. Let me know how frail I am.And he put a new canticle into my mouth, a song to our God. Many shall see, and shall fear : and they shall hope in the Lord.LORD, make me to know my end, and the measure of my days, what it is; that I may know how frail I am.
Psalms 39:5Behold, thou hast made my days as an handbreadth; and mine age is as nothing before thee: verily every man at his best state is altogether vanity. Selah.Behold, you have made my days handbreadths. My lifetime is as nothing before you. Surely every man stands as a breath." Selah.Blessed is the man whose trust is in the name of the Lord; and who hath not had regard to vanities, and lying follies.Behold, thou hast made my days as a hand-breadth; and my age is as nothing before thee: verily every man at his best state is altogether vanity. Selah.
Psalms 39:6Surely every man walketh in a vain shew: surely they are disquieted in vain: he heapeth up riches, and knoweth not who shall gather them."Surely every man walks like a shadow. Surely they busy themselves in vain. He heaps up, and doesn't know who shall gather.Thou hast multiplied thy wonderful works, O Lord my God : and in thy thoughts there is no one like to thee. I have declared and I have spoken they are multiplied above number.Surely every man walketh in a vain show: surely they are disquieted in vain: he heapeth up riches, and knoweth not who shall gather them.
Psalms 39:7And now, Lord, what wait I for? my hope is in thee. Now, Lord, what do I wait for? My hope is in you.Sacrifice and oblation thou didst not desire; but thou hast pierced ears for me. Burnt offering and sin offering thou didst not require :And now, Lord, what wait I for? my hope is in thee.
Psalms 39:8Deliver me from all my transgressions: make me not the reproach of the foolish.Deliver me from all my transgressions. Don't make me the reproach of the foolish.then said I, Behold I come. In the head of the book it is written of meDeliver me from all my transgressions: make me not the reproach of the foolish.
Psalms 39:9I was dumb, I opened not my mouth; because thou didst it.I was mute, I didn't open my mouth, Because you did it.that I should do thy will : O my God, I have desired it, and thy law in the midst of my heart.I was dumb, I opened not my mouth; because thou didst it.
Psalms 39:10Remove thy stroke away from me: I am consumed by the blow of thine hand.Remove your scourge away from me. I am overcome by the blow of your hand.I have declared thy justice in a great church, lo, I will not restrain my lips : O Lord, thou knowest it.Remove thy stroke away from me; I am consumed by the blow of thy hand.
Psalms 39:11When thou with rebukes dost correct man for iniquity, thou makest his beauty to consume away like a moth: surely every man is vanity. Selah. When you rebuke and correct man for iniquity, You consume his wealth like a moth. Surely every man is but a breath." Selah.I have not hid thy justice within my heart : I have declared thy truth and thy salvation. I have not concealed thy mercy and thy truth from a great council. When thou with rebukes dost correct man for iniquity, thou makest his beauty to consume away like a moth: surely every man is vanity. Selah.
Psalms 39:12Hear my prayer, O LORD, and give ear unto my cry; hold not thy peace at my tears: for I am a stranger with thee, and a sojourner, as all my fathers were."Hear my prayer, Yahweh, and give ear to my cry. Don't be silent at my tears. For I am a stranger with you, A sojourner, as all my fathers were.Withhold not thou, O Lord, thy tender mercies from me : thy mercy and thy truth have always upheld me.Hear my prayer, O LORD, and give ear to my cry; hold not thy peace at my tears: for I am a stranger with thee, and a sojourner, as all my fathers were.
Psalms 39:13O spare me, that I may recover strength, before I go hence, and be no more.Oh spare me, that I may recover strength, Before I go away, and be no more." Psalm 40 For the Chief Musician. A Psalm by David. For evils without number have surrounded me; my iniquities have overtaken me, and I was not able to see. They are multiplied above the hairs of my head : and my heart hath forsaken me.O spare me, that I may recover strength, before I go hence, and be no more.
