Will a wise man make answer with knowledge of no value, or will he give birth to the east wind?Doth a wise man answer [with] vain knowledge? And fill [with] an east wind his belly?
Job 15:3Should he reason with unprofitable talk? or with speeches with which he can do no good?Should he reason with unprofitable talk, Or with speeches wherewith he can do no good? Will he make arguments with words in which is no profit, and with sayings which have no value? To reason with a word not useful? And speeches no profit in them?
Job 15:4Yes, thou castest off fear, and restrainest prayer before God.Yea, thou doest away with fear, And hinderest devotion before God. Truly, you make the fear of God without effect, so that the time of quiet worship before God is made less by your outcry.Yea, thou dost make reverence void, And dost diminish meditation before God.
Job 15:5For thy mouth uttereth thy iniquity, and thou choosest the tongue of the crafty. For thine iniquity teacheth thy mouth, And thou choosest the tongue of the crafty. For your mouth is guided by your sin, and you have taken the tongue of the false for yourself. For thy mouth teacheth thine iniquity, And thou chooseth the tongue of the subtile.
Job 15:6Thy own mouth condemneth thee, and not I: yes, thy own lips testify against thee.Thine own mouth condemneth thee, and not I; Yea, thine own lips testify against thee. It is by your mouth, even yours, that you are judged to be in the wrong, and not by me; and your lips give witness against you.Thy mouth declareth thee wicked, and not I, And thy lips testify against thee.
Job 15:7Art thou the first man that was born? or wast thou made before the hills?Art thou the first man that was born? Or wast thou brought forth before the hills? Were you the first man to come into the world? or did you come into being before the hills? The first man art thou born? And before the heights wast thou formed?
Job 15:8Hast thou heard the secret of God? and dost thou restrain wisdom to thyself?Hast thou heard the secret counsel of God? And dost thou limit wisdom to thyself? Were you present at the secret meeting of God? and have you taken all wisdom for yourself?Of the secret counsel of God dost thou hear? And withdrawest thou unto thee wisdom?
Job 15:9What knowest thou that we know not? what understandest thou, which is not in us?What knowest thou, that we know not? What understandest thou, which is not in us? What knowledge have you which we have not? is there anything in your mind which is not in ours? What hast thou known, and we know not? Understandest thou and it is not with us?
Job 15:10With us are both the gray headed and very aged men, much older than thy father. With us are both the gray-headed and the very aged men, Much elder than thy father. With us are men who are grey-haired and full of years, much older than your father. Both the gray-headed And the very aged [are] among us Greater than thy father [in] days.
Job 15:11Are the consolations of God small with thee? is there any secret thing with thee? Are the consolations of God too small for thee, Even the word that is gentle toward thee? Are the comforts of God not enough for you, and the gentle word which was said to you?Too few for thee are the comforts of God? And a gentle word [is] with thee,
Job 15:12Why doth thy heart carry thee away? and what do thy eyes wink at,Why doth thy heart carry thee away? And why do thine eyes flash, Why is your heart uncontrolled, and why are your eyes lifted up;What doth thine heart take thee away? And what are thine eyes high?
Job 15:13That thou turnest thy spirit against God, and lettest such words go out of thy mouth? That against God thou turnest thy spirit, And lettest words go out of thy mouth? So that you are turning your spirit against God, and letting such words go out of your mouth? For thou turnest against God thy spirit? And hast brought out words from thy mouth:
Job 15:14What is man, that he should be clean? and he who is born of a woman, that he should be righteous? What is man, that he should be clean? And he that is born of a woman, that he should be righteous? What is man, that he may be clean? and how may the son of woman be upright? What [is] man that he is pure, And that he is righteous, one born of woman?
Job 15:15Behold, he putteth no trust in his saints; yes, the heavens are not clean in his sight.Behold, he putteth no trust in his holy ones; Yea, the heavens are not clean in his sight: Truly, he puts no faith in his holy ones, and the heavens are not clean in his eyes;Lo, in His holy ones He putteth no credence, And the heavens have not been pure in His eyes.
Job 15:16How much more abominable and filthy is man, who drinketh iniquity like water? How much less one that is abominable and corrupt, A man that drinketh iniquity like water! How much less one who is disgusting and unclean, a man who takes in evil like water! Also surely abominable and filthy Is man drinking as water perverseness.
Job 15:17I will show thee, hear me; and that which I have seen, I will declare;I will show thee, hear thou me; And that which I have seen I will declare: Take note and give ear to my words; and I will say what I have seen:I shew thee hearken to me And this I have seen and declare:
Job 15:18Which wise men have told from their fathers, and have not hid it:(Which wise men have told From their fathers, and have not hid it; (The things which wise men have got from their fathers, and have not kept secret from us;Which the wise declare And have not hid from their fathers.
Job 15:19To whom alone the earth was given, and no stranger passed among them.Unto whom alone the land was given, And no stranger passed among them): For only to them was the land given, and no strange people were among them:)To them alone was the land given, And a stranger passed not over into their midst:
Job 15:20The wicked man travaileth with pain all his days, and the number of years is hidden to the oppressor. The wicked man travaileth with pain all his days, Even the number of years that are laid up for the oppressor. The evil man is in pain all his days, and the number of the years stored up for the cruel is small.`All days of the wicked he is paining himself, And few years have been laid up for the terrible one.
Job 15:21A dreadful sound is in his ears: in prosperity the destroyer shall come upon him.A sound of terrors is in his ears; In prosperity the destroyer shall come upon him. A sound of fear is in his ears; in time of peace destruction will come on him:A fearful voice [is] in his ears, In peace doth a destroyer come to him.
Job 15:22He believeth not that he shall return out of darkness, and he is waited for by the sword. He believeth not that he shall return out of darkness, And he is waited for of the sword. He has no hope of coming safe out of the dark, and his fate will be the sword; He believeth not to return from darkness, And watched [is] he for the sword.
Job 15:23He wandereth abroad for bread, saying, Where is it? he knoweth that the day of darkness is ready at his hand.He wandereth abroad for bread, [saying], Where is it? He knoweth that the day of darkness is ready at his hand. He is wandering about in search of bread, saying, Where is it? and he is certain that the day of trouble is ready for him:He is wandering for bread `Where [is] it?` He hath known that ready at his hand Is a day of darkness.
Job 15:24Trouble and anguish shall make him afraid; they shall prevail against him, as a king ready to the battle.Distress and anguish make him afraid; They prevail against him, as a king ready to the battle. He is greatly in fear of the dark day, trouble and pain overcome him:Terrify him do adversity and distress, They prevail over him As a king ready for a boaster.
Job 15:25For he stretcheth out his hand against God, and strengtheneth himself against the Almighty.Because he hath stretched out his hand against God, And behaveth himself proudly against the Almighty; Because his hand is stretched out against God, and his heart is lifted up against the Ruler of all,For he stretched out against God his hand, And against the Mighty he maketh himself mighty.
Job 15:26He runneth upon him, even on his neck, upon the thick bosses of his bucklers:He runneth upon him with a [stiff] neck, With the thick bosses of his bucklers; Running against him like a man of war, covered by his thick breastplate; even like a king ready for the fight,He runneth unto Him with a neck, With thick bosses of his shields.
Job 15:27Because he covereth his face with his fatness, and maketh collops of fat on his flanks.Because he hath covered his face with his fatness, And gathered fat upon his loins; Because his face is covered with fat, and his body has become thick; For he hath covered his face with his fat, And maketh vigour over [his] confidence.
Job 15:28And he dwelleth in desolate cities, and in houses which no man inhabiteth, which are ready to become heaps. And he hath dwelt in desolate cities, In houses which no man inhabited, Which were ready to become heaps; And he has made his resting-place in the towns which have been pulled down, in houses where no man had a right to be, whose fate was to become masses of broken walls. And he inhabiteth cities cut off, houses not dwelt in, That have been ready to become heaps.
Job 15:29He shall not be rich, neither shall his substance continue, neither shall he prolong the perfection of it upon the earth. He shall not be rich, neither shall his substance continue, Neither shall their possessions be extended on the earth. He does not get wealth for himself, and is unable to keep what he has got; the heads of his grain are not bent down to the earth. He is not rich, nor doth his wealth rise, Nor doth he stretch out on earth their continuance.
Job 15:30He shall not depart out of darkness; the flame shall dry up his branches, and by the breath of his mouth shall he go away.He shall not depart out of darkness; The flame shall dry up his branches, And by the breath of [God's] mouth shall he go away. He does not come out of the dark; his branches are burned by the flame, and the wind takes away his bud.He turneth not aside from darkness, His tender branch doth a flame dry up, And he turneth aside at the breath of His mouth!
Job 15:31Let not him that is deceived trust in vanity: for vanity shall be his recompense.Let him not trust in vanity, deceiving himself; For vanity shall be his recompense. Job 15:34For the congregation of hypocrites shall be desolate, and fire shall consume the tabernacles of bribery. For the company of the godless shall be barren, And fire shall consume the tents of bribery. For the band of the evil-doers gives no fruit, and the tents of those who give wrong decisions for reward are burned with fire. For the company of the profane [is] gloomy, And fire hath consumed tents of bribery.
Job 15:35They conceive mischief, and bring forth vanity, and their belly prepareth deceit. They conceive mischief, and bring forth iniquity, And their heart prepareth deceit. Evil has made them with child, and they give birth to trouble; and the fruit of their body is shame for themselves. To conceive misery, and to bear iniquity, Even their heart doth prepare deceit.
