Psalms 79:1A Psalm of Asaph. O God, the heathen have come into thy inheritance; thy holy temple have they defiled; they have laid Jerusalem on heaps.<A Psalm. Of Asaph.> O God, the nations have come into your heritage; they have made your holy Temple unclean; they have made Jerusalem a mass of broken walls.God, the nations have come into your inheritance. They have defiled your holy temple. They have laid Jerusalem in heaps.{A Psalm of Asaph.} O God, the nations are come into thine inheritance: thy holy temple have they defiled; they have laid Jerusalem in heaps.
Psalms 79:2The dead bodies of thy servants have they given to be food to the fowls of the heaven, the flesh of thy saints, to the beasts of the earth.They have given the bodies of your servants as food to the birds of the air, and the flesh of your saints to the beasts of the earth.They have given the dead bodies of your servants to be food for the birds of the sky, The flesh of your saints to the animals of the earth.The dead bodies of thy servants have they given to be meat unto the fowl of the heavens, the flesh of thy saints unto the beasts of the earth:
Psalms 79:3Their blood have they shed like water around Jerusalem; and there was none to bury them.Their blood has been flowing like water round about Jerusalem; there was no one to put them in their last resting-place.Their blood they have shed like water around Jerusalem. There was no one to bury them.Their blood have they shed like water round about Jerusalem, and there was none to bury [them].
Psalms 79:4We have become a reproach to our neighbors, a scorn and derision to them that are around us.We are looked down on by our neighbours, we are laughed at and made sport of by those who are round us.We have become a reproach to our neighbors, A scoffing and derision to those who are around us.We are become a reproach to our neighbours, a mockery and a derision to them that are round about us.
Psalms 79:5How long, LORD? wilt thou be angry for ever? shall thy jealousy burn like fire?How long, O Lord? will you be angry for ever? will your wrath go on burning like fire?How long, Yahweh? Will you be angry forever? Will your jealousy burn like fire?How long, O Jehovah? wilt thou be angry for ever? Shall thy jealousy burn like fire?
Psalms 79:6Pour out thy wrath upon the heathen that have not known thee, and upon the kingdoms that have not called upon thy name.Let your wrath be on the nations who have no knowledge of you, and on the kingdoms who have not made prayer to your name.Pour out your wrath on the nations that don't know you; On the kingdoms that don't call on your names;Pour out thy fury upon the nations that have not known thee, and upon the kingdoms that call not upon thy name:
Psalms 79:7For they have devoured Jacob, and laid waste his dwelling-place.For they have taken Jacob for their meat, and made waste his house.For they have devoured Jacob, And destroyed his homeland.For they have devoured Jacob, and laid waste his habitation.
Psalms 79:8O remember not against us former iniquities: let thy tender mercies speedily succor us: for we are brought very low.Do not keep in mind against us the sins of our fathers; let your mercy come to us quickly, for we have been made very low.Don't hold the iniquities of our forefathers against us. Let your tender mercies speedily meet us, For we are in desperate need.Remember not against us the iniquities of [our] forefathers; let thy tender mercies speedily come to meet us: for we are brought very low.
Psalms 79:9Help us, O God of our salvation, for the glory of thy name: and deliver us, and purge away our sins, for thy name's sake.Give us help, O God of our salvation, for the glory of your name; take us out of danger and give us forgiveness for our sins, because of your name.Help us, God of our salvation, for the glory of your name. Deliver us, and forgive our sins, for your name's sake.Help us, O God of our salvation, because of the glory of thy name; and deliver us, and forgive our sins, for thy name's sake.
Psalms 79:10Why should the heathen say, Where is their God? let him be known among the heathen in our sight by avenging the blood of thy servants which is shed.Why may the nations say, Where is their God? Let payment for the blood of your servants be made openly among the nations before our eyes.Why should the nations say, "Where is their God?" Let it be known among the nations, before our eyes, That vengeance for your servants' blood is being poured out.Wherefore should the nations say, Where is their God? Let the avenging of the blood of thy servants that is shed be known among the nations in our sight.
Psalms 79:11Let the sighing of the prisoner come before thee; according to the greatness of thy power preserve thou those that are appointed to die;Let the cry of the prisoner come before you; with your strong arm make free the children of death;Let the sighing of the prisoner come before you. According to the greatness of your power, preserve those who are sentenced to death;Let the groaning of the prisoner come before thee; according to the greatness of thine arm, preserve those that are appointed to die;
Psalms 79:12And render to our neighbors seven-fold into their bosom their reproach, with which they have reproached thee, O Lord.And give punishment seven times over into the breast of our neighbours for the bitter words which they have said against you, O Lord.Pay back to our neighbors seven times into their bosom Their reproach with which they have reproached you, Lord.And render unto our neighbours, sevenfold into their bosom, their reproach, wherewith they have reproached thee, O Lord.
Psalms 79:13So we thy people and sheep of thy pasture will give thee thanks for ever: we will show forth thy praise to all generations.So we your people, and the sheep of your flock, will give you glory for ever: we will go on praising you through all generations.So we, your people and sheep of your pasture, Will give you thanks forever. We will praise you forever, to all generations. Psalm 80 For the Chief Musician. To the tune of "The Lilies of the Covenant."
